Xie wang word of honor

Xie Jie Liu Bo (蝎揭留波, Xiē Jiē Liú Bō) most known as the Scorpion King (蠍王, Xiē Wáng) or simply Scorpion (蠍儿, Xiē’er) is the master of the assassination organisation Scorpions.

Appearance

Scorpion is shown as handsome young man with dark eyes and seven jewelled braids tying his hair back in a half ponytail. He is often shown wearing dark colours and various leather overcoats during missions and outside of Zhao Jing’s circle, favours wide split robes with wide sleeves under which he can be seen wearing dark braces. One of his consistent pieces is a large silver ring decorated with green, blue and silver orbs, and a matching hair ornament.

Xie’er during Zhao Jing’s reveal as the mastermind behind Gao Chong’s death

While in Zhao Jing’s company, Scorpion is shown wearing lighter colours, and more jewellery, favouring light blues and decorative metal hems, which he pairs with a silver hair ornament to match.

Personality

He is shown as an intelligent young man, who is unperturbed by his plans going sideways or being challenged by opponents. When first facing Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing, he proposes a bet for their fight despite knowing who Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing are. He commands the Four Assassin’s and his intelligence network with ease, having no problem sending out disciples on deadly missions. He is seen to be thoughtful and rational even against his enemies and potential allies, healing The Tragicomic Ghost to get Liu Qian Qiao on his side.

In front of Zhao Jing, Scorpion becomes filial and acts younger than seen with his commanders, seeking praise and affection from his godfather. Often he is seen looking after and praising his godfather in numerous ways, and is eager to carry out any plans Zhao Jing has for him.

Xie’er being manipulated by Zhao Jing

Due to this, he does not act against his godfather until forced to, even to the point of silliness as regarded by Pretty Arhat. Despite his godfathers abusive actions, and gaslighting, Scorpion does not see himself as weak or worthless, stating in a rage that Zhao Jing was the only person to see him that way.

History

Childhood

Xie Jie Liu Bo was born in Nanjiang, somewhere in the southern boarders. At some point, he was picked up and adopted by Zhao Jing, who had given him the nickname Scorpion.

He refers to Zhao Jing as godfather (義父, Yìfù), and refers to Li Yao as godmother (义母, Yìmǔ)[1].

Master Assassin

Through the years, Scorpion trained to become a professional assassin who specialises in poison, and eventually create the assassination organisation Scorpions under Zhao Jing’s ownership.

Relationships

Zhao Jing

He is the adoptive father of Scorpion King. They appear together after Gao Chong’s death where it is revealed that Zhao Jing planned everything[2]. Seemingly having raised, or looked after Scorpion for a long time, Zhao Jing uses Scorpion’s talents to his advantage, instructing him to build the Scorpions and help him plan his revenge. Soon after Gao Chong’s death, Scorpion begins to become insistent that Zhao Jing recognize him as his son in front of the world, an action that Zhao Jing refuses and gaslights Scorpion about, going as far as to physically harm him, only to cry about it next time they meet. He becomes hostile after learning Zhao Jing plans to kill him, and plots with Wen Kexing to take him down and in doing so, spares Zhao Jing’s life and forces him to become disabled and mute for life.

Du Pusa

Da Pusa is one of the Assassins that Scorpion King is closer to. She exclaims excitement in being able to kill her fellow Assassins for her Master if he orders it, happy with staying in line while other assassins do not[3]. Due to her loyalty, Du Pusa and Scorpion are often seen together and are comfortable with one another, enough that Scorpion King has no trouble walking in on Du Pusa reuniting with an old lover of hers, while they are together. She is also seen stepping between Scorpion King and Zhao Jing without Scorpion King saying anything of it[4].

Qiao Luohan

When confronted with the sight of her fellow Assassin injured from Magic Sound Backfire, Qiao Luohan is quick to plan a retaliation, though it is unclear if it is out of principle or kinship to her co-worker, and subsequently break her Masters wishes.

Abilities

  • Martial Arts — Though his martial arts are not seen in the show, it is presumed he has some practice given his position within the Scorpion Sect and Zhao Jing. He favours a weapon named Iron Hook, which is seen when he kills Song Huairen, which he does while the latter’s back is turned to him.
  • Assassination/Poison — As the leader of the Scorpion Sect, Scorpion is expected to have several ways to kill someone, though his favourite seems to be with his Iron Hook which has fatal poison on it (which implies a talent for such poisons).
  • Intelligence Gathering — Despite the Scorpion Sect being an assassination group, others such as Zhou Zishu have regarded to sect for it’s contracts that can be bought for any number of reasons, only stating that prices run extravagantly high for some actions. With this large network of intelligence, Scorpion is seen gathering information for plans, adjusting them to fit, or beginning a new plan entirely.

Trivia

  • Like with Wu Xi, Scorpion’s birth name, hairstyle and knowledge of poisons shows him coded as originating from a nomadic tribe.
  • In the Commemorative Artbook, Scorpion has the following verse:
    • 万里雪殇君莫笑,就中更有痴儿女:

The book scenario is completely different, so don’t try to relate it with the show, you’ll get confused.

As for the scene sharing, YBY and Share did have a few, like how YBY applauded him at the banquet celebrating WKX’s death, when all the righteous sects were ignoring his existence including ZJ.

As for the shipping, that often happens due to the fans pairing up eligible singles together. (It happened in Untamed as well, if you’ve watched that. People paired up the main CP’s brothers for no apparent reason.) In this case, since Xie’er has daddy issues, and nobody is a greater daddy than granddaddy, people paired them up. 🤣

Even keeping jokes aside, show Xie Wang’s loved very much, everyone wants him to get away from that toxic relationship, so they voted a caring daddy instead. On the other hand, our ol’ monster is hot and broken-hearted as well (book canon), he even has that one amiable interaction with Share (i.e., it’s really rare that he praises people instead of cursing them), so everyone wanted to end his loneliness.
