To speak about disasters, you need the appropriate vocabulary. Part 3
Gust — a strong current of air;
Hail — precipitation of ice pellets;
Hailstorm — a storm during which hail falls;
High-pressure — aggressively and persistently persuasive;
Iceberg — a large mass of ice floating at sea;
Lack — the state of needing something that is absent or unavailable;
Lava — rock that in its molten form issues from volcanos;
Low-pressure — not forceful;
Magma — molten rock in the earth’s crust;
Mountain — a land mass that projects well above its surroundings;
Nimbus — a dark grey cloud bearing rain;
Permafrost — ground that is permanently frozen;
Rainstorm — a storm with rain;
Sandstorm — a windstorm that lifts up clouds of dust or sand.
Examples:
A sudden gust of wind blew his umbrella inside out.
The Matterhorn is one of the biggest mountains in Europe.
