i haven’t heard let’s rock it but it could be american — you could say » ok let’s go, let’s rock and roll» meaning you really want to «hit the ground running«
or simply say » I’m going to really nail this job» nail meaning to hammer it down and get it just for yougood luck anyway …… guillaume

Just a little note Lu— if you are saying it to yourself you can’t really use ‘Let’s’ as that is used for a group of people (‘Let’s do this again/ Let’s get a coffee’…)
So for you to say it to yourself, say ‘I’m going to rock this/it!’
Guillaume— I always thought, and have used it in this way , ‘Let’s rock n roll‘ was not exactly to ‘hit the ground running’, but more to leave somewhere/get active.
For example, at the end of an evening you might say ‘Well, it’s late, I better rock n roll’.
So do you think it also has your meaning, in addition to mine? I’d like to hear what others think about this?

I think you’re being a little purist. I’m sure I’ve been heard to mutter to myself: «OK, let’s look at this again» or (playing sudoku) «Let’s assume that the 5 goes here…».

I see what you mean and indeed I do agree- of course you can say anything you like to yourself!! Yet once I read the thread it struck me as strange to say that to oneself… but mainly I made my point in case others were to misunderstand the (if you like, purist ) meaning of ‘let’s’ and consequently think that let’s is used for referring to oneself rather than a group.
Now that you say it, I alter my response somewhat!- I would use ‘let’s’ when speaking to
others
and ALSO use it in conjunction with my name when speaking to myself (aloud as you described, or in my head!) , which must be why it struck me as strange.

rock and roll is very personal and cultural but to me of the sixties it means let’s party and have fun or let’s show everyone the best way to enjoy yourself and make an impression
hit the ground running is «military» (for the paras); it means as soon as you contact the opposition or their ground, you have to really be on your toes and moving — therefore it’s really apt for the job interview situation — «ready for anything they can throw at you».
