You can use up to 16 images for your word search with images. You can use less by just using 8, 12 or any lower number. The maker will generate a puzzle based on what you enter.

Create a list of words in the large area on the left. The list on the right has words for which we already have images. You can select words from that list by clicking them, and they’ll appear on your word list on the left.

You can also type words into the list on the left. If we don’t have an image for your word, the worksheet will have the text of the word instead.

If there’s a word that you want to use and for which we don’t have an image, enter it into the type-in at the bottom and we’ll put it on our list of words/images to add.

When you’re done, press the CREATE button to see a preview of your worksheet. If something went wrong, the generator will tell you and you should fix your input.

If you’re not happy with the generated puzzle, press the SCRAMBLE button and you may get a different result. You may be able to press SCRAMBLE repeatedly until you get a layout that you like.

Select an image and enter the text that you’d like to use. The image is not anchored to any text, so you can write anything you’d like: the word (‘cat’), write the word with an article (‘a cat’), or a sentence (‘This is a cat.’)

You can toggle between text and image hints if you are using the Fun Fonix image groupings, but for more options with text only formats, it’s best to use:

If you use multiple words (‘police officer’ for example), the maker will leave a space for that word. So, you can enter short sentences, but be careful. You can’t exceed the size of the board.

If you use text hints, they will be entered below the puzzle just as you typed them. If you want caps then you’ll need to type them in caps.

What is a Word Search Puzzle?

A word search puzzle is basically find a combination of words placed in a grid. Those set of words can be placed horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Purpose of this puzzle is to find words that are hidden in the jargon of other words.

Most of the times the words that need to be searched are written at the bottom of the puzzle.

When you are customizing a word search puzzle, it is entirely up to you to include the type of words you want to use in your word search puzzle.

To keep the players interested, make sure to use the words that are not too long in length. Try to avoid phrases that can get mixed up easily with other words.

Avoid words that require special characters, punctuation marks or numbers.

PLEASE NOTE: After you create your puzzle, proofread carefully to make sure that offensive or unintended words are not used. If you happen to come across any, you can generate another puzzle by following the steps above.

A word search puzzle can also be called word find, word seek, word sleuth or mystery word puzzle and the first one is said to be initially created and published in the Selenby Digest — A small classified ad paper, freely distributed at Safeway and other stores on March 1, 1968. It was created by Norman E. Gibat, in Norman, Oklahoma. Its initial size was 8.5 x 5.5 inches.
