Tip #2: Make Use of Colored Squares
Play your tiles on the colored squares to make the most of the bonus points. You will be able to score more points by playing DL, DW, TL and TW squares. For example, if you make the word Park on four blank squares, you will get 11 points. But if your «P» is on a TL and «K» on a TW, then you can win 57 points.
Tip #3: Use Functional Words
If you want to score more points, memorize some 2 to 3 letter words. Also, put stress on words with vowels and the letters J, Q, X, and Z.
Tip #4: Combine Bonus Multipliers

Using Our Advanced Word Finder
The advanced «line solver» allows you to find words while adding DL, DW, TL, or TW spaces on the board. The answers you get will reflect the correct score including bonuses. For example, take the following image:
First, enter your rack letters. In this case, it would be EQRTUUR. Then, consider the word ZIN on the board. If you want to play a crossword off of that, go ahead and enter that into the line input.
Now looking at the screenshot again, following the word is a Double Letter spot, so we can add a space to the end and press the DL button below it.
Now, if I want the words presented to me to only start with ZIN, I can press on the bookend to the left of the letters.
Searching like this presents me with a list of words that use the letters in my rack, and only shows me words that begin with the letters ZIN. When accounting for the score of words, it will now also double the score of the next tile after the N.
Using Our Basic Word Finder

First, I enter my rack letters as EQRTUUR.
Looking at the «SO» toward the left side of the letters on the board, going down, I can use that as an anchor point for my words.
Entering «SO» into the «STARTS WITH» field will present me with a list of words that begin with «SO» and use the letters on my rack. For example, one of the presented words «SOURER».
Entering «SO» into the «CONTAINS» field will present me with a list of words that have «SO» in the word somewhere while using the letters on my rack. One word I could play on the list of presented words could be «RESORT».
Entering «SO» into the «ENDS WITH» field will present me with a list of words that end with the letters «SO». Using the letters on my rack, I am presented with the word «QUESO» as a word to play.

Interesting Facts About Scrabble
- The idea of Scrabble dates all the way back to 1938. An American architect, Alfred Mosher Butts, created a game he called «Criss-Crosswords», basing it off of an earlier game of his, Lexiko. This is the earliest known version of this style of game.
- In 1948, James Brunot bought the rights to Criss-Crosswords, changed a few rules of the game to simplify it a little bit, and renamed the game to Scrabble.
- Although unproven, it is suspected that Scrabble’s «big break» was in 1952 when Jack Straus, the president of Macy’s, placed a large order of copies of the game for his store shortly after playing the game on a vacation.

How to Play Words With Friends
Words With Friends is a similar game to Scrabble with a few modifications. The layout of the board is a little different, point values
aren’t exactly the same, and the game uses a dictionary that includes more slang words. But if you’re familiar with other word games,
the learning curve should be super easy to master.

You can play Words With Friends online with nearly any mobile devices or on your desktop computer. Most people play on their phone or tablet,
but there’s also a Facebook version if you want to play on your computer.

Create New Words From Your Letter Tiles
When you start Words With Friends, you’ll see a game board with a 15×15 grid of squares. There are 225 squares
total. (You like how we did that math for you?)
You will also have a bunch of letter tiles (up to seven at a time), which should look really familiar if you’ve
ever played Scrabble.
Each player gets a chance to make a word using the letters on the board as well as the ones on their “rack.” You
get points for each word you make, and it’s possible to make more than one word at once if you’re strategic about
your letter placement.
When it’s your turn, use the letters on your rack to play a word horizontally or vertically on the board. Your
word must connect with at least one other letter that’s already on the board, and the very first word of the game
must connect with the purple tile in the center.
Remember, though, that you can connect with more than one letter to create additional words. Each word you make
must be in the Words With Friends dictionary, however.
Use Bonus Squares
There are bonus squares on the board that give you double or triple points (Yes, just like other word games). Use
these squares to rack up points quickly and outwit your opponent! (But try to calm down because it’s just a game
and there are more important things in life.)
Here are the bonus squares:
- Double Letter (DL): The point value doubles for the letter played on this square.
- Triple Letter (TL): The point value triples for the letter played on this square.
- Double Word (DW): If you play a word that uses this square, the entire word’s point value
doubles. - Triple Word (TW): If you play a word that uses this square, the entire word’s point value
triples.
You can actually stack the bonus squares if you play your tiles right. There are four places on the board where
you can stretch a word so it covers two double-word bonuses. Because they stack, you’ll actually get a
quadruple-word score—or something like that. (We didn’t actually do this math for you. We’re better with spelling
and things like that.)
4 Words with Friends Strategies
1. Swap Letters
If you can’t find a word to play, you have the option to swap letters. If you decide to swap, you give up your
turn to play a word, but sometimes it’s worth the gamble. Hit the “swap” button if you decide to use this
option.
2. Shuffle Letters
You can also shuffle the letters to help find words you didn’t see before or new letter combinations.
This is one of the easiest ways to find previously unnoticed words, and it’s really fun to
hit the shuffle button and watch the tiles fly around.
3. Pass
There’s also an option to pass, but we don’t recommend using it. If you can’t find a good word to use, it’s better
to swap letters instead.
4. Use Power-Ups
There are four power-up options you can choose to boost your chances of a high score.
Here’s how to use Word Radar, Swap+, and the Word Clue power-ups.
- Hindsight shows you the best word you could have played on your last turn.
- You can see where to play a word on the board using the Word Radar power-up.
- If you want to swap tiles without losing a turn, use Swap+.
- Word Clue is similar to Word Radar. When you use it, you’ll know where to play a word on the board, and you’ll
also know which tiles to play to form the word.
Power-Ups are super useful, but they’re also limited. You’ll need to pick the best time to play them for the
maximum advantage. Keep in mind that the Word Radar and Word Clue power-ups don’t necessarily show you the most
popular word to play; they just show you a word that’s possible. Hindsight shows you the best word, but only for
your last turn. It’s not really helpful for the next turn unless that word is still an option.
The History of Words With Friends
Now that you know how to play the game, it’s time for a little history lesson.
Believe it or not, Words With Friends has been around for more than a decade. Newtoy developed this game in
2009.
Around 2010 or 2011, it seemed like everyone was playing WWF. It was at the top of the charts in the iOS app
store. It was so popular, in fact, that Zynga purchased the company and released Words With Friends 2 just a few
years later, in September 2017.
Now that the “hot new trend” vibe has worn off a bit, it’s not as huge as it was in its heyday. But Words With
Friends is still a pretty popular game, and you won’t have any trouble finding competitors if you’re interested in
playing.
Fun fact: There’s actually a Words With Friends board game. It’s part of Hasbro Gaming which is an imprint of
Hasbro, the manufacturer of Scrabble. In Europe and the United Kingdom, Mattel holds the trademark. There’s a
“Luxe” version with a rotating board and a travel version too. (Okay, maybe that’s not a fun fact, but we thought

11 Tips to Crush the Competition in Words with Friends
Here are a few more tips that can help you win the game. Some of them are outstanding, while others are just
mediocre. You can decide which ones you want to use in your personal strategy. Of course your opponents will have
to wait patiently while you spend minutes (or hours, or even days) trying to choose the
best plan. But that’s really just part of the game. You need to intimidate the other player so your victory feels
complete! But if you take too long, they may get bored and start a separate game with a different player. Then
you’ll be the one waiting. (Consider that tip a freebie.)
1. Don’t wait too long
You have 5 days to play a move or you’ll time out. At that point the game will
automatically resign. So, don’t wait too long!
2. Make Up Words
You may notice that you can make up words when you’re playing WWF. You won’t get to play them unless they’re
actual words, of course, but the game will tell you that before you play them.
That’s one way WWF differs from other crossword games. In Scrabble, you have to play the word first, and then the
other player can challenge you. If it’s not a word, you pay a penalty. But in WWF, you can place letter tiles on
the board in any combination, and the game will tell you if the word is in the words with friends dictionary. If
it is, great! You just found a new word. If not, just try again until you find a word that works.
3. Start Strong
If you get to play the first word, make it a good one. You can use one of the Double Word tiles if you make a
five-letter word that uses the center tile. A Double Word score is really the best you can do, though, so make
sure you use it!
4. Use the Bonus Squares
You should always, always, always use a bonus square if you can. In fact, you should aim to use as many bonus
squares as possible when it’s your turn. Before you even start looking at your letters, see which tiles give you
the highest points when combined with a bonus square. Then, strategically form a word using those letters.
5. Use Two- or Three-Letter Words
Small words are your friends in this game. While they won’t always reward you with high points, you can sometimes
make multiple two-letter or three-letter words in one play, which can pay off better than a single five- or
six-letter word. That’s why it’s always a good idea to have a few
two letter words in your pocket.
Use a Words With Friends dictionary to find a list of great words that probably aren’t in the average person’s
vocabulary—unless the average person uses words like «xu».
Don’t automatically go for the longest word possible, even if it seems really cool and impressive. Look at all
your options and compare points before you make your play. A two-letter word can give you way more points than a
longer word if you place it right.
6. Make Parallel Words
Once in a while, you’ll have an opportunity to play a word parallel to another word, which gives you multiple
words and a crazy amount of points.
These opportunities don’t pop up often, so you have to be on the lookout. This is a terrific way to use shorter
words to your greatest advantage.
Remember: The more words you make on a single play, the more points you earn.
7. Create Hooks for an Easy Play
Sometimes, finding the best word or most popular word doesn’t take a lot of creativity. When your opponent plays a
word, see if you can add to it and make a new word, which is called a “hook.”
For example, pretend your opponent played the word “hook.” You could add an “s” to the beginning or end to make
the word “shook” or “hooks.” You could also add an “ed” on the end to make the word “hooked.” There are tons of
these opportunities if you keep your eyes peeled. Plus, this can make the other player mad, which is a confidence
boost for you!
8. Be Strategic With Swaps
We don’t normally recommend swapping your tiles, but sometimes it’s truly the best option. Let’s say you have
seven vowels and no consonants. What the heck are you gonna do with that mess? “Eeeiiio” isn’t a word unless
you’re a cartoon character. You need to swap the tiles, sacrifice your turn, and hope you get some better letters
next time. It stinks, but unless you want to memorize Scrabble vowel words,
it’s really the only way to proceed.
9. Yell Bingo!
You can use all your letters in one turn to get a bingo. This gives you 35 points. This same strategy gives you 50
points in Scrabble, but that’s just another way the two games are different. (We didn’t make the rules.) You can
place your tiles so that they make more than one word, giving you a higher number of points. You can also yell
“bingo!” really loudly, which is kinda fun, though your opponent can’t hear you. It’s therapeutic and not weird at
all.
10. Stay Away From the Bonus Squares
This seems like it goes against our earlier advice, but hear us out: When you’re playing a word, try to stay away
from bonus squares if you can’t use them yourself. Why? Because your opponent may be able to reach them easily on
their next turn by using your word.
Not only will they get extra points for using the bonus square, but they’ll also block you from using the bonus
square. That bonus square will be gone forever, and you can never get it back. Ever. (You can probably use it
during your next game, though, so don’t worry too much.)
11. Play Defense
While your primary strategy should be to score points, that’s not the only way to win the game. Just like any
other sport, Words With Friends is all about defense too. (And yes, WWF is a sport. You may not burn any calories
or shift positions while you play, but it’s probably considered a sport by someone, somewhere.)
If you see an opportunity to block your opponent from playing a Double or Triple Word tile on their next turn,
BLOCK THEM. Yes, even if it costs you a few points. Obviously, you don’t want to sacrifice 20+ points so you can
block your opponent, but 5 or 10 points? Totally worth it. Save your blank tiles for when you really need them,
don’t just play them anywhere! This is also good advice for most word games such as wordfeud.
Words With Friends Tournaments
Okay, now that you’re hooked on this game and feel like you’ve mastered the strategy, it’s time to consider going
pro. We’re talking about tournaments. Yes, they exist. Why are you laughing? They’re a real thing, and they’re
awesome.
A Few things to Know About Tournaments:
- There are usually a certain number of rounds to decide the winner—kinda like boxing, except without the
punching and stuff. Most tournaments use three rounds, and best two out of three decides the winner. - There’s usually a time limit to complete a round. Time limits vary, but two or three days is average.
- If there’s a tie after the first two rounds, a third round decides the winner. If the same person wins the
first two rounds, you won’t normally play the third round because that person has already won. - The winner of that last match will play against another winner. This continues until it’s down to the last two
competitors. - At this point, the remaining players fight to the death. Just kidding. They just play another round until
someone wins first place. - Unfortunately, there’s no cheating allowed in tournament play. (Though, how would they know you’re using a
Scrabble cheat? But we’re definitely not advocating for cheating.) - Most WWF tournaments have their own guidelines for winning. You may have to report the winner yourself, and
there may be a deadline. It really varies based on the host and is completely up to their discretion. Just make
sure you read the rules when you sign up.
Words With Friends Prizes
So, what happens if you win a Words With Friends game or tournament? Unfortunately, not a whole lot. You will
probably feel pretty good about yourself, and you might get some cool digital swag. (Like Mystery Boxes!—which
aren’t as cool as they sound.) But your life won’t change much other than that.
There have been a few tournaments that handed out actual cash prizes in the past, but it’s really up to the person
(or website) hosting the tournament. We can’t find any historical prizes worth more than 50 bucks or so, but 50
bucks ain’t nothin’ to sneeze at. You can buy a nice dinner with $50.
You could, of course, create your own tournament—ask players to chip in a few bucks, and let the winner take all.
But that’s totally up to you and your group of friends. You may not have time to host a game, or your friends may
be too busy with jobs and whatnot.
We don’t know you or your life. It’s just an idea, and it sounds pretty cool. There could be snacks and wine. We
haven’t really thought about it too much, but people are always down for a party, especially if there’s food
involved. You could even buy the physical game board and play like a civilized person. The Luxe edition would be
pretty neat because you could spin it and stuff. We’re just spitballing here, any excuse to hang out with friends
sounds good to us.

Words with Friends is an application that basically functions as an online version of Scrabble. If you know how to play the classic word search game, you will probably pick up Words with Friends very quickly. However, whether you’re a Scrabble veteran or completely new to this type of game, there are a variety of tips and strategies you can use to maximize the number of points you score each game.

Download the smartphone app if you want to play on your phone. Go to the App Store if your phone uses iOS or to the Google Play store if it’s an Android phone. Then, search “Words with Friends” and click the “Get” button to download the app to your phone.[1]
- Once you’ve downloaded the app to your phone, simply click on the Words with Friends icon to open the app and play it.

Use Facebook if you want to play Words with Friends on the computer. Log into your Facebook account and go to the App Center, which you can find in the menu to the left of your feed. On the left sidebar, search for “Words with Friends” and install the app.[2]
- Click “Play Game” to start a new game once you’ve downloaded the app.

Tap the “+” icon in the top right corner to start a new game. Once you’ve started a new game, you can choose to play either with a Facebook friend, a random user, or the person sitting next to you. To go with this last option, you’ll have to physically pass your smartphone to the other player after each turn, so the game is only accessible from your phone.[3]
- If you download Words with Friends 2, you will also have the option of playing against a computer opponent.
- Words with Friends will suggest friends for you to play with, but you can start a game with anyone if you’d rather play a random opponent.

Click and drag letter tiles to the board to play them and make words. You can create a word by placing your letters either vertically or horizontally on the board. However, you are not allowed to play the following types of words: proper nouns, abbreviations, prefixes and suffixes standing alone, or words that require a hyphen or an apostrophe.[4]
- With the exception of the first word, every word that you play must be placed so that at least 1 letter tile is shared with a word that has already been placed on the board.
- Note that you can’t play a word if it will create an illegal word using neighboring letters. For instance, you can’t play the word “CAT” if the “T” tile is placed next to another “T” tile, since “TT” is not a legal word.
- When you play a letter, you earn a number of points equal to the number in the top right corner of the letter tile. Thus, when you play a word, you earn the sum total of all the letters you played to make that word.

Play a word with at least 1 letter on the middle tile to start the game. Whoever plays the first word in a round of Words with Friends has to place at least 1 of the letters in that word on the star tile in the middle of the board. Note that it can be any letter in the word; in other words, your word doesn’t necessarily have to begin from the star tile.[5]
- For example, if your first word is “CAT,” you can place either the “C,” “A,” or “T” tile on the star.

Build new words off of the letters on the board when it’s your turn. If you played the first word, then your opponent will place a word on the board that connects to your word. When it’s your turn, place a word down that connects to either the first word you played or to the new word that your opponent played.[6]
- Note that before you begin your turn, you will be given new letter tiles so that you have 7 on your rack.

Go back and forth between the 2 of you until the game is over. A game of Words with Friends ends when 1 player has played all of their letter tiles and there are no more new letter tiles to be given. At that point, each player’s score is tallied and the player with the highest score wins.[7]
- Note that if either player has leftover tiles at the end of the game, that player will lose points equal to the sum of the value of those leftover tiles.

Place your letters in ways that limit your opponent’s ability to score. Winning at Words with Friends is not only about scoring points for yourself, but also playing defense and preventing your opponent from scoring. When you play your letters, try to position the tiles so that your opponent doesn’t have access to the lucrative colored tiles on the board.
- To do this, avoid playing words next to double- or triple-word tiles. Although this may mean you have to play a word for a lower score somewhere else, it also keeps your opponent from being able to play these high-value tiles.

Memorize different 2-letter words you can play across other words. Playing 2-letter words, especially with valuable letters, enables you to essentially rack up points by only playing in 2- or 4-tile squares. This is not only more efficient for you, but also makes it harder for your opponent to play off of your words.[8]
- Some examples of 2-letter words you might be able to play include “XI,” “EX,” and “PI.”

Look for opportunities to play your letters on the colored squares. You earn extra points by placing your letters strategically on the colored tiles of the board. These tiles will earn you double or triple points, either for the letter that is played on that tile, or for the entire word that you played.[9]
- Double- and triple-word squares are usually the most valuable colored tiles on the board.
- If you have a high-value letter tile, like “X” or “Z,” playing this tile on a double- or triple-letter tile is also a good way to rack up extra points.

Try to play all 7 of your letters at once whenever possible. This is called a “Bingo” and it allows you get all the points in your 7 letters, plus a 35-point bonus. Memorize some common 7-letter words or simply play a lot of Words with Friends until you get better at spotting Bingo opportunities.

Play your letters along words that are on the board to get more points. For example, if you have the letters to spell “POWER” and the word “AROSE” is already on the board, don’t play your letters vertically to use the “R” in “AROSE.” Instead, play your letters along the top of “AROSE,” so that you also spell “PA,” “OR,” “WO,” “ES,” and “RE.”
- When you play words along other words, you tend to get a lot more points. Note, however, that this only works if you’re able to spell legal 2-letter words with the letters that you play.

How to Play Words With Friends
The rules of the game are mostly the same as Scrabble, with a few crucial differences:
- The arrangement of the bonus tiles on the board for each word game is different
- The point value of each letter or tile is different
- The Scrabble Word Dictionary is different than the Words With Friends Dictionary. WWF uses the ENABLE (ENHANCED NORTH AMERICAN LEXICON) dictionary with 173,000+ words in its word list.

At the start of the game, you are given seven random letters. Your task is forming words on the board in crossword puzzle style fashion. You can form words horizontally or vertically.
You should try to score as many points possible for each word you place on the board because the highest score wins.
Rules of the Game
- The first word must be placed so that one of the letters is on the star in the center of the board.
- All other words after the first word is played, must be placed so that at least one tile is shared from a previous word on the board.
- Each tile must be placed to make words only horizontally or vertically.
- You can make more than 1 word when you place your tiles.
- You can’t place a tile if it makes an invalid word on another set of tiles. Use our WWF dictionary to check the validity of a word.
- The game ends when one of the players uses all tiles in his or her rack and there are no tiles left to draw from.
- The game can also end prematurely if three turns pass with no scoring turns, if the score is not 0 to 0
How to Score Points
- 35 bonus points are given to any player who uses all seven tiles at once. Be sure to brush up on 7 letter words.
- If you create multiple words in a single turn, score each word separately, including bonuses. You receive the total of all words and bonuses combined.

Learn the Board
One of the best bits about WWF is the fact that is has a built-in a robot that accurately and automatically shows you your potential score, with scrabble you have to do this in your head. Use this to your advantage to see which word is going to score you more.
Running through all your possibilities is the best way to find all the best moves and learn the board.

Defense vs Offense
Although it is good to score as many points as possible, sometimes playing a lower scoring word or skipping a turn in a tactical way is going to win you the game. Try to use up the bonus squares or add an ‘S’ every now and aging if it’s going to prevent your opponent from using them or going in a favorable place on the board.
You need to assume that every opportunity that appears to you, you’re opponent will see it too. Be wary of other players that play this way, you could be in for a long yet interesting game if you’re both doing this. Sometimes they can go for days.

Educate Yourself
Words are literally your friend with this game, the more you know the more chance you have of coming up with the highest score. One of the best things you can do to educate yourself id to use the WWF dictionary or word cheat such as this WWF Word Finder.
You’re not cheating by doing this, you’re merely learning and allowing yourself to become more educated. Nothing beats the power of language, reading on a regular basis, looking up the meaning of words that your opponents use and making notes of words you’ve come across are great ways of furthering your knowledge could lead to you winning a large proportion of your games.

Parallel Play
tactic that is commonly used to win in Word With Friends is parallel play. It will make you better at playing and also make it more challenging for your opponent. To do this you should try to avoid going across your opponent’s word. Try to match consonants with vowels and do the same with vowels to consonants. This way you are going be getting pints for creating multiple words on a regular basis whilst preventing them from doing the same. The best thing you can do to help this trick work is to become familiar with two-letter words, so do a little research and have few ready to pull out of your sleeve.

The game’s object is to find the best words and score the highest amount of points, and usually, to do so, you have to keep your opponent’s score low.
How can I Win More in Words With Friends?
- The Shuffle button rearranges your letters in a different order. This may make it easier for you to visualize new word possibilities.
- Please don’t make it easy for your opponent! Ensure you are very aware of the words that can be played based on the letter you put out. You may set them up for all kinds of bonuses, unintentionally.
- Don’t be afraid to try words that you don’t know. What’s the worst that could happen if you put in a word that’s not real? Try to hit the bonuses when doing so.
- As stated before, go for bonuses. Go for double letter and triple letter blocks whenever possible.
- Make sure you study the board before you make your next move. You could be overlooking tons of points or giving away points.
- Make sure you know this word list of two-letter words, ex, za, qi, and xu. Two-letter words are a good chance for easy points if you know them.

What Dictionary Does Words With Friends Use?
Words With Friends and Words With Friends 2 both use the ENABLE dictionary. In case you wanted to know, ENABLE is an acronym for the Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon. This dictionary is similar to Scrabble’s, but it uses a lot more social words and abbreviations. The board layout is very similar as well.

What is the Highest Scoring Word in Words With Friends?
Not including bonuses, oxyphenbutazone, is worth 44 points and has 15 letters. The chances of spelling this word are very slim, to say the least.
Oxyphenbutazone is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication, so becareful when playing Words with Friend against medical professionals. They have a leg up!

What is the Green Button on the WWF App?
It is the Word Radar power-up button. If you click it, it will show you where you can place letters on the board. This isn’t always helpful if there are a lot of places to lay a word down, but it is worth a shot.
Other Power-ups
- Swap+
This power-up allows you to swap tiles without losing your turn.
- Hindsight
Hindsight power-up lets you see the best possible move that could have been made on your previous turn. This power-up wont help you on your current turn, but it will help you learn for future turns.
- Word Clue
the Word Clue power-up is similar to Word Radar. It helps you figure out where a word should go, but it only highlights one place on the board and the letters to go along with it.

What is the Flame Emoji (🔥) and number on WWf?
According to the Words With Friends Help page, the fire emoji, represents a streak between you and an opponent.
- You or your friend must play a move within 24 hours for two consecutive days.
- On the third day of continuous game play, a fire emoji (showing 2) will appear indicating the start of the streak. The number beside it is the Days of streak.
- One of you must play the next move within 24 hours from the previous move to maintain the streak.

The Word Finder
Check out our Words With Friends and Scrabble Word Lists, which are invaluable to improving your score in both games. If you start by getting to know the 2 letter words and the words with a Q but no U, you will have a huge advantage. This is because you can rack up huge points by creating multiple words in just one play, and sometimes a 2 letter word allows you to do just that. Additionally, knowing your two letter words allows you to get rid of tiles at the end of games. Another list people don’t talk about as often is the list of hooks. A 3 letter hook allows you to create 2 words in your play, one that adds a letter to then beginning (or end) of a word, and your own word that you actually spell out. You can also access the Anagram Solver which will sort out your anagram finding issues. Currently it’s a single word Anagram Solver but we also have a multi word generator as well. It is also important to remember to play defense in Scrabble/WWF. This means that you should not open up the triple letter word tile (or even double word) on you board for your opponent(s) because they can score big. The only exception is if you yourself are scoring big in the process, or if you think your opponent cannot utilize the triple word tile. Even better is if you have a rare combination of letters (and blanks) that would allow you to use the triple word tile in your next turn after opening it up, while still making it tough for your opponent to use.
