Creating Word Unscramble Games
A word scramble generator is a useful tool for creating word scramble games for school, baby showers or for fun. Our word scramble generator couldn’t be easier. It only requires 3 steps:
- Add a title — Use a descriptive title if the word scramble game is themed. For example, «Valentine’s Day Word Scramble»
- Add a description — this is optional, but it is a good idea if you want to add rules, such as time limits, etc to your word puzzle game.

Creating your own word scrambles is extremely easy and requires no thought at all! Just enter the words that you would like to scramble and the generator does the rest, in real-time!
Helping the player
If you want to help out the player a bit, you can enable ‘Show first letter’ and/or ‘Show last letter’, this way the player has extra clues when trying to find the unscramble the word.
Adding a hidden solution
To make the word scramble puzzle extra interesting, you can add a ‘Hidden solution’ via the Settings-tab. This will automatically be filled-in whenever the player enters a correct answer.
The hidden solution creates extra opportunities for your puzzle when organising a puzzle competition or whenever you need a final check if players really solved the puzzle.
As you can see, the hidden solution has its own cell color and can also be recognised via the number in the bottom right of the puzzle cell.
Upload word lists from Excel
If you already have a list of words in an Excel file, then you can use the Premium ‘Upload from Excel’ option to save you even more time!
It allows you to select the answer and description column (used for the ‘Description’ type of the word scramble’, so even if you have the columns reversed in your Excel-sheet, you can swap them!
It will add the words in the sheet to your existing words in the puzzle.
Changing the hint type
Another cool Premium feature is the ability to change the ‘Type of Word Scramble’. This allows you to switch the type to ‘Image’ or ‘Description’ and create room on your ‘Start’-tab to enter extra clues!
The word scramble generates a small question mark at the end of each scrambled word which when clicked, shows the saved clue (either image or description).
Disable answer control
To increase the difficulty and test out the player some more, you can add the ‘Disable answer control’ from the Premium-tab. This way, answers do not turn green/correct for the player.
If a player has given the correct answer, it can be seen whenever you have enabled ‘Keep track of stats’ (but this is only visible to you as the puzzle owner)
Adding a countdown timer
Another way to spice up the action is by adding the premium feature ‘Use countdown timer’. This way a user only has a given number of seconds to find the correct words.
Solve the word scramble as a team
To create even more fun interactions with your word scramble puzzle, try out the ‘Play in teams’ feature on the Premium-tab. It sets up team registrations and once you start the team battle, it will connect all of the team members.
Every time a team member enters a correct answer in the puzzle, it will synchronise this given answer with the rest of the team so that you can finish the puzzle together.
Extra cool is the team dashboard that you have as the word scramble puzzle owner, via the Premium > ‘Open Control room’. There you can see the progress of each team and monitor who finishes first!

Why is a word scramble maker useful?
Scrambling words is something that anyone can do manually, but if you are here on this page looking for a word scramble maker, then you are already aware that doing it is not as simple as it looks.
Small words are relatively easy. CAT can turn into CTA or ATC, for example. The problems arise when it comes to longer words. The more letters they contain the more focused you need to be to make sure you do not repeat or forget any letter while scrambling the word.
Likewise, the longer the word the harder it is to control the closeness between the scrambled word and its solution.
