Below is a list of words related to another word. You can click words for definitions. Sorry if there’s a few unusual suggestions! The algorithm isn’t perfect, but it does a pretty good job for common-ish words. Here’s the list of words that are related to another word:

Words Related to ~term~
As you’ve probably noticed, words related to «term» are listed above. Hopefully the generated list of term related words above suit your needs.
P.S. There are some problems that I’m aware of, but can’t currently fix (because they are out of the scope of this project). The main one is that individual words can have many different senses (meanings), so when you search for a word like mean, the engine doesn’t know which definition you’re referring to («bullies are mean» vs. «what do you mean?», etc.), so consider that your search query for words like term may be a bit ambiguous to the engine in that sense, and the related terms that are returned may reflect this. You might also be wondering: What type of word is ~term~?
Also check out ~term~ words on relatedwords.io for another source of associations.
Related Words
Related Words runs on several different algorithms which compete to get their results higher in the list. One such algorithm uses word embedding to convert words into many dimensional vectors which represent their meanings. The vectors of the words in your query are compared to a huge database of of pre-computed vectors to find similar words. Another algorithm crawls through Concept Net to find words which have some meaningful relationship with your query. These algorithms, and several more, are what allows Related Words to give you… related words — rather than just direct synonyms.
As well as finding words related to other words, you can enter phrases and it should give you related words and phrases, so long as the phrase/sentence you entered isn’t too long. You will probably get some weird results every now and then — that’s just the nature of the engine in its current state.
Special thanks to the contributors of the open-source code that was used to bring you this list of term themed words: @Planeshifter, @HubSpot, Concept Net, WordNet, and @mongodb.
There is still lots of work to be done to get this to give consistently good results, but I think it’s at the stage where it could be useful to people, which is why I released it.

Below is a massive list of sea words — that is, words related to sea. The top 4 are: ocean, lake, river and shore. You can get the definition(s) of a word in the list below by tapping the question-mark icon next to it. The words at the top of the list are the ones most associated with sea, and as you go down the relatedness becomes more slight. By default, the words are sorted by relevance/relatedness, but you can also get the most common sea terms by using the menu below, and there’s also the option to sort the words alphabetically so you can get sea words starting with a particular letter. You can also filter the word list so it only shows words that are also related to another word of your choosing. So for example, you could enter «ocean» and click «filter», and it’d give you words that are related to sea and ocean.
You can highlight the terms by the frequency with which they occur in the written English language using the menu below. The frequency data is extracted from the English Wikipedia corpus, and updated regularly. If you just care about the words’ direct semantic similarity to sea, then there’s probably no need for this.
There are already a bunch of websites on the net that help you find synonyms for various words, but only a handful that help you find related, or even loosely associated words. So although you might see some synonyms of sea in the list below, many of the words below will have other relationships with sea — you could see a word with the exact opposite meaning in the word list, for example. So it’s the sort of list that would be useful for helping you build a sea vocabulary list, or just a general sea word list for whatever purpose, but it’s not necessarily going to be useful if you’re looking for words that mean the same thing as sea (though it still might be handy for that).
If you’re looking for names related to sea (e.g. business names, or pet names), this page might help you come up with ideas. The results below obviously aren’t all going to be applicable for the actual name of your pet/blog/startup/etc., but hopefully they get your mind working and help you see the links between various concepts. If your pet/blog/etc. has something to do with sea, then it’s obviously a good idea to use concepts or words to do with sea.
If you don’t find what you’re looking for in the list below, or if there’s some sort of bug and it’s not displaying sea related words, please send me feedback using this page. Thanks for using the site — I hope it is useful to you! 🐜
That’s about all the sea related words we’ve got! I hope this list of sea terms was useful to you in some way or another. The words down here at the bottom of the list will be in some way associated with sea, but perhaps tenuously (if you’ve currenly got it sorted by relevance, that is). If you have any feedback for the site, please share it here, but please note this is only a hobby project, so I may not be able to make regular updates to the site. Have a nice day! 🐢
The idea for the Describing Words engine came when I was building the engine for Related Words (it’s like a thesaurus, but gives you a much broader set of related words, rather than just synonyms). While playing around with word vectors and the «HasProperty» API of conceptnet, I had a bit of fun trying to get the adjectives which commonly describe a word. Eventually I realised that there’s a much better way of doing this: parse books!
Project Gutenberg was the initial corpus, but the parser got greedier and greedier and I ended up feeding it somewhere around 100 gigabytes of text files — mostly fiction, including many contemporary works. The parser simply looks through each book and pulls out the various descriptions of nouns.
Hopefully it’s more than just a novelty and some people will actually find it useful for their writing and brainstorming, but one neat little thing to try is to compare two nouns which are similar, but different in some significant way — for example, gender is interesting: «woman» versus «man» and «boy» versus «girl». On an inital quick analysis it seems that authors of fiction are at least 4x more likely to describe women (as opposed to men) with beauty-related terms (regarding their weight, features and general attractiveness). In fact, «beautiful» is possibly the most widely used adjective for women in all of the world’s literature, which is quite in line with the general unidimensional representation of women in many other media forms. If anyone wants to do further research into this, let me know and I can give you a lot more data (for example, there are about 25000 different entries for «woman» — too many to show here).
The blueness of the results represents their relative frequency. You can hover over an item for a second and the frequency score should pop up. The «uniqueness» sorting is default, and thanks to my Complicated Algorithm™, it orders them by the adjectives’ uniqueness to that particular noun relative to other nouns (it’s actually pretty simple). As you’d expect, you can click the «Sort By Usage Frequency» button to adjectives by their usage frequency for that noun.
Special thanks to the contributors of the open-source mongodb which was used in this project.

Can animals fall in love with humans?
While it is not known if animals experience romance exactly the way humans do, recent studies show that for some animals there is indeed the capability to love. Adolescent and adult humans have a chemical called oxytocin that activates when there is a strong attraction with another human.
Can a dog fall in love with its owner?
Experts think dogs are capable of “falling in love” in a way, though it doesn’t look anything like a big-screen rom-com. Even though dogs don’t really fall into “romantic” love, they still can form deep and lasting bonds not only with their owners but also their fellow dogs.
Do animals get attached to their owners?
In other words, they do love you even if they don’t show it. The research, published in the journal Current Biology, found that cats form attachments to their owners that are similar to those that dogs and even babies form with their caregivers.
Do animals fart?
Some of the answers are obviously silly—we have no idea if aliens fart, and extinct animals like mastodons definitely don’t—but some include insightful scientific observation….The internet wanted to know which animals fart, so scientists happily obliged.
Animal | Does it fart? |
---|---|
Horse | Yes |
Humans | Yes |
Lagomorphs | Yes |
Lemurs | Yes |
What animals Cannot fart?
Octopuses don’t fart, nor do other sea creatures like soft-shell clams or sea anemones. Birds don’t, either. Meanwhile, sloths may be the only mammal that doesn’t fart, according to the book (although the case for bat farts is pretty tenuous).
Do spiders fart?
SPIDER. Since the stercoral sac contains bacteria, which helps break down the spider’s food, it seems likely that gas is produced during this process, and therefore there is certainly the possibility that spiders do fart.
Do animals cry?
If you define crying as expressing emotion, such as grief or joy, then the answer is yes. Animals do create tears, but only to lubricate their eyes, says Bryan Amaral, senior curator of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. Animals do feel emotions, too, but in nature it’s often to their advantage to mask them.
Do animals laugh?
Recently, scientists investigated play vocalization to see how common it was among animals. The team identified 65 species that “laughed” while playing; most were mammals, but a few bird species demonstrated playful laughter too.
Do cats cry sad?
“Cats can do a really sad meow, but it’s not like crying. It’s not tears rolling [down their face] and bawling like people, no, but they can still feel that emotion, that sadness.” While cats may not shed tears as an emotional response, they can tear up for medical reasons—just like a human can.
