Word of the day rain

The word of the day is RAIN.

If you’ve been reading my posts carefully you will have noticed that some days the day ticket costs £4.00 and on other days it costs £4.60. There’s a reason for this. If you buy the day ticket before 9:30 am it’s more expensive.

Have you noticed a theme in Ifrit Aeon’s photos? She knows that men like looking at her butt. It’s not just me. Some of her videos have had millions of views.

What is the origin of qiviut?

Qiviut is the plural of qiviuq, “down, underhair.” It’s a borrowing from one of the Inuit languages, as are Words of the Day angakok and anorak. The letter q in Inuit languages is pronounced farther back in the mouth than the q in English, producing a sound about halfway between English k and French r. Give it a try! Qiviut was first recorded in English in the late 1950s.

EXAMPLE OF QIVIUT USED IN A SENTENCE

The thick lining of qiviut inside his coat kept him warm during his morning walk.

What is the origin of pluvial?

Pluvial comes from the Latin pluvia, “rain.” Another word for “rain” in Latin is imber, but while pluvia is the source of many modern Romance words for “rain” (such as French pluie, Italian pioggia, and Spanish lluvia), imber has barely any related words today. Pluvial was first recorded in English in the 1650s.

EXAMPLE OF PLUVIAL USED IN A SENTENCE

The burst of pluvial weather left mud and puddles in its wake.

Prolegomenon was first recorded in English around 1650.

CAPE
An important term used to describe how unstable the atmosphere is. CAPE is an acronym for Convective Available Potential Energy. CAPE is a measure of potential energy in the atmosphere. Gravity Waves
These waves occur between any stable layers of fluids of different density. When the fluid boundary is disturbed, buoyancy forces try to restore the equilibrium. The fluid returns to its original shape, overshoots and oscillations then set in, which propagate as waves. Gravity or buoyancy is the restoring force. A crude example of what gravity waves look like can be seen when you throw a rock in a calm pond. The ripples that spread out across the pond can be compared to propagating gravity waves.
