Who doesn’t like to show off as a wordsmith from time to time? But to do that, you need to practice your vocabulary and what better way to do it than fun word games.
Besides easy games for kids, there’s a whole bunch of free online word games that adults can play over and over again. We’ve picked some of the easiest and most addictive word games that you can find.
What are the best online word games?
Word Wipe
Word Wipe is developed by Great Day Games and can be really challenging if you’re not focused.
You are given a board full of scrambled letters and you have to join adjacent letters to create words, and clear as many rows as you can. The more letters you join, the higher your score gets.
You might feel a bit time-pressured, tough. You can turn off sound to get fully immersed in the game.
⇒Play Word Wipe
Letter Logic
This is a classic crossword game, with a very plain design, but a good way to unwind and expand on your vocabulary.
There’s no time limit, but you have a very discreet clock in the left corn of the board just to remind you how time flies. And believe us, it does, because it’s not that easy to complete the game.
⇒Play Letter Logic
Scramble Words
Scramble Words by AARP is an addictive word game in which you have to unscramble a bunch of 5 letters to make as many words as you can in the allotted time.
While it can completely draw you in, the background music can be a little annoying at times. This is also why after a while, the game can get tedious.
⇒Play Scramble Words
Word Zen
Word Zen is a game developed by Big Fish Games, in which you are given a board full of letters that you have to combine to create words.
As expected, if you create longer words, you get more points, and you complete the game faster. But, as you eliminate letters, it gets harder to also find words.
In the full version of the game, you get 4 levels of difficulty and over 100 levels to get to.
An interesting detail is that you can play this with family and friends, creating separate profiles to compete against each other.
⇒Play Word Zen
Wild West Hangman
Based on the original version of Hangman, this free online version is similar, but instead of hanging a drawn body, you hand a cowboy.
There are six topic areas to choose from and you’re allowed six incorrect letter guesses before the cowboy is hung and the game is over.
It’s a very simple game that can get boring after a short while, but nevertheless a good option to take your mind off more serious business.
⇒Play Wild West Hangman
So these were our 5 best word games that we found interesting. We would like to hear your opinion on this topic, so feel free to use the comments section below.

Of course they are! While the concept of word games might sound kind of dull, take a second to think about all the kinds of great word games that you played growing up. Games like Word Search and Hangman are absolute classics that almost everyone has played and loved!
There are plenty of riffs on word games on our Word Games Playlist! Pretty much all of our playlists on Coolmath Games have fun spins on the ordinary genre, and the Word Games Playlist is no exception. Several titles are more like regular games that happen to have words as a part of them. As mentioned before, the game Misspelled is a game where you use magic to get through the levels. By spelling words correctly, you will be rewarded with abilities like extra platforms and more jumps. A few other games like this include Candy Word and Word Worm, both of which make spelling a whole lot more fun than you would think possible.
Maybe best of all, word games will improve your spelling without it feeling like school. Getting to learn while having fun can often be difficult, but word games are a great way to learn in an exciting way. Who knows, maybe playing something like Grabble or Word Detector will help you get a little bit better of a grade in your next spelling test without even feeling like you were studying.

Play-by-mail game The Land of Karrus, as portrayed in Paper Mayhem magazine.[1]
This is a list of play-by-mail (PBM) games. It includes games played only by postal mail, those played by mail with a play-by-email (PBEM) option, and games played in a turn-based format only by email or other digital format.
It is unclear what the earliest play-by mail game is between chess and Go.[2] Diplomacy was first played by mail in 1963.[3] In the early 1970s, in the United States, Rick Loomis of Flying Buffalo Inc, began a number of play-by-mail games;[4] this included games such as Nuclear Destruction (1970). This marked the beginning of the professional PBM industry.[2] Other publishers followed suit, with significant expansion across the industry in the 1980s. This supported the publication of a number of newsletters from individual play-by-mail companies as well as independent publications such as Gaming Universal, Paper Mayhem, and Flagship which focused solely on the play-by-mail gaming industry. The sourcing of play-by-mail games in this list largely comes from these magazines, whether from reviews or advertisements, as well as additional magazines such as Space Gamer/Fantasy Gamer, Dragon Magazine, and other publications that serviced the gaming community broadly, resuming with the contemporary online magazine Suspense and Decision, which supports the small but active play-by-mail gaming community today.[5]
In some cases, more than one publisher can be found for the same game on the list. This is because the rights to play-by-mail games were occasionally sold among publishers.[a] In other cases, a publishing company might license a game to another company—which could even translate and moderate the game in a different country.[b] Many more play-by-mail games existed in nascent, playtest form than there are on this list. Only games which completed playtesting and were released for play are included here as a «published» game. This list includes games which are no longer available for play as well as games that are still active. Game durations range from those which were only briefly available for play, such as Quest of Gorr,[8] to those which have been played for decades or longer, such as Alamaze, Diplomacy, Hyborian War, and Chess.

- ^ For example, in 1993, play-by-mail gaming company Schubel & Son sold all games and licenses to Northwest Simulations.[6]
- ^ For example, in the March/April 1993 issue of Paper Mayhem magazine, Prime Time Simulations announced that its play-by-mail game World Conquest was licensed to multiple companies in Europe and was available in English, French, German, Dutch, and Italian.[7]
