How to use «Come up short» in context?

When it comes to life, some things are just meant to be. For example, you were probably born with a certain personality and set of abilities. And, even if you don’t believe in destiny, odds are you’re going to come up short at some point in your life. This isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it can be a good thing.

If you believe in the saying «work hard and you will get the results you desire,» then coming up short is a good thing. It means you’re working hard and you’re striving to achieve something.

1) To exert much effort but still fail miserably

2) Fall short of a goal

3) To get busted, caught red handed

1) It took him years to save all that money only to get it all stolen. That’s what he gets for hiding all that cash in his house instead of putting it in the back. What a way to come up short!

2) He was banging this married chick. They were at her house fucking and her husband came home. Her husband was a cop! That guy came up short.
