This shouldn’t be «trite». I’m wanting a word one could say when an empty statement is made especially when it’s annoying….. For example, you’re driving and see a sign advertising for a massive lottery and someone says, «yah you know after taxes….» or if you’re watching a news channel and a protest rally is being covered and someone (also watching) says «they just want attention».

In mathematical logic statements which are always true are called tautology. From Wikipedia:
In logic, a tautology (from the Greek word ταυτολογία) is a formula that is true in every possible interpretation.
From OED:
Logic A statement that is true by necessity or by virtue of its logical form.
Tautologies add no scientific value to any reasoning, and thus they can be removed from proofs.

If you have your antique pearl necklace appraised by a jeweler and learn that it’s a worthless fake, you’ll be terribly disappointed, since something that’s worthless has no monetary value.
Use the adjective worthless to describe something that has no use or isn’t worth any money. Your old broken-down car, a stamp collection with no value, and your no-good roommate who never cleans and won’t pay his share of the rent could all be described as worthless. The roots are the Old English words weorð, «equal in value to,» and leas, «devoid of.»

Hi,
Does «be of value» simply mean «to have a value»? (I’ve seen the «be of no value» thread, that didn’t help).
For example in the famous quote of Einstein: «Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value»
Thank you.

Well I think Einstein’s quote means ‘to be of value (to society)’; in other words, it is not referring to money, but of being ‘useful’ or worth something to the world/society in general.
It will often refer to something other than monetary worth, in other words, to be metaphorical, not literal.
e.g.
Complaining is of no value (it is not worth your while to complain).
Copying out lists of words is of no value (there is no benefit in copying out lists of words)
I can see that it is of some value to study Latin, but I see no value in studying Greek (I think Latin could be useful, but not Greek) etc.
