Some people live their lives with a smile on their face. Some people are just naturally cheerful and friendly, and they can be very pleasant people to interact with. But what words would you use to describe these people? The following article will provide you with plenty of alternatives you can use.
The preferred alternatives are “Happy”, “Cheerful” and “Pleasant”. These three are the preferred terms because no matter who you say them to, the person will understand what you mean, and will be able to picture how the person is always smiling. They are straightforward and clear.
Happy
“Happy” is a word that almost needs no introduction. It refers to a mood of pure joy, and can be used to refer to a person who is pleasant, cheerful, and yes, is always smiling. Someone who is happy makes the people around them happy as well.

DATING
So I’m deep into my second draft and I realize that I’m describing characters as «smiling» a lot. Someone says something to someone and they smile and reply. I just think it’s crucial to mention that a character smiled sometimes. And I’ll avoid it if their emotions are evident in the dialogue, don’t get me wrong.
But here’s the thing: they’ve got these websites that give you «fifty ways to say a character smiled» but, honestly, I feel like it makes the writing cornier when you do that. I feel like just leaving it 99% of the time as «smiled» sounds better than constantly saying things like, «he flashed a toothy grin.» Sort of for the same reason why a writer should just use «said» instead of constantly saying «blurted» or «grunted» or «preached.»
So I’m I right in not caring? Should I just use «smiled» 99% of the time? Keep in mind that I’m writing in a contemporary style.
Thanks for any input!

You can use pretty much anything you like in an informal email, but I will say that I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in an email I’ve received.
-
#3
Even when similar phrases are used, it’s more usual to say “lots” rather than “a lot”: lots of love, lots of hugs and kisses, etc.
-
#4
Love, hugs and kisses are… what? — bilateral acts Each takes two — sender and recipient of letter.
It only takes one, a single person, to smile. So, for a split second, I might wonder if ‘lots of smiles’ meant ‘I wish you lots of smiles’ or ‘I am all smiles’
But I am far from saying I do not like ‘lots of smiles’ or that I would be confused by it…
