Very many or very much or very often is a lot. If you like something very much, you might say, «I like it a lot, or if you have a large amount of homework, you can say, «I have a lot of homework.»
A lot is correctly written as two words, not alot. You might wonder why. One meaning of lot is «a great quantity of something.» For instance, if someone wants to bring enough cupcakes for everyone at the party, he or she might buy the whole lot, meaning every cupcake the bakery has. It’s that spirit of abundance that comes through in a lot. Just remember: «You brought a lot of cupcakes! I bet you bought the whole lot!»

How many is a lot?
A lot is an old unit of weight used in many European countries since the Middle Ages until the beginning of the 20th century. What is lot and example?
The definition of a lot is a large number or greater extent. An example of lot is someone with sixty pairs of socks, lots of socks. An example of lot is finishing a marathon one mile ahead of the other runners, to finish a lot ahead.

Какая разница между a lot of, lots of, просто a lot без предлога и allot? А что значат выражения a whole lot of, an awful lot of?
1. A lot of
Конструкция a lof of заменяет и many, и much.
Companies make many new products. А можем заменить many на a lot of:
Companies make a lot of new products.
I drank much water in the shower.
I drank a lot of water in the shower.
Просто везде использовать a lot of.
Are there many people who confuse many with mush?
I don’t have much time.
Здесь many и much нельзя заменить на a lot of.
2. A whole lot of/an awful lot of
A whole lot of/an awful lot of – неформальные выражения. Их даже можно иногда перевести почти дословно без потери смысла: an awful lot of – ужасно много, A whole lot of – целая куча.
He spends an awful lot of time playing games.
I bet that statue costs a whole lot of money.
3. Lots of
Lots of – это менее формальный синоним a lot of.
I know you must have lots of questions.
I hope you like lots of sugar in your iced tea.
4. A lot
A lot взаимозаменяем с much, но many в этом значении не используется!
- A lot
She works a lot, and I didn’t want to worry her.
She works much, and I didn’t want to worry her.
I’m sure you’ll feel a lot better in a week.
I’m sure you’ll feel much better in a week.
Learning english with Enline is more interesting than at school. No, it is a lot more interesting. (much more interesting).
5. Allot
Try and allot two or three hours a day to training.
You should allocate/allot the same amount of time to each question.
