According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. 805 million people all over the world do not have enough food to eat. More than 750 million people lack adequate access to clean drinking water.
True story | How to help the poor and needy
source
We don’t have any food crisis. There is plenty of food in the world for everyone. But the problem is poor and hungry people, they don’t have enough money to buy food.
All this things are related to Humanity. When you see a poor people do you feel sympathy for them? If yes then you have Humanity. We are trying to motivate you and show you original picture of our beautiful world.
So the thing is how to help the needy and poor people of our society and how to spread light in their lives. Have a look and try in real world. your Single try can save a life.
1. Poverty has no RELIGION- For helping a poor person you should have broad mind of thinking. First of all you should know that poverty has no religion.
Religion teaches you to have compassion for people around you. All religions are the same and GOD is one.
2. Collect your old clothes and donate- If you get bored from your clothes and wanted to get rid of them. Don’t throw them away in fact collect them and give them to those who has need them.
Not only this, try to encourage your friends and colleagues to join you and to do some charity.
3. Plan a day to give food once in a week- First of all don’t waste food at any cost. You have no idea how many poor people sleep empty stomach every day while you waste food.
I have read somewhere this incident that a person asks a child who he is- Muslim or Hindu, the child replies I am hungry sir.
This melts my heart. Giving food is one of the best charities you can do. So, try to plan to serve food to the hungry people once in a week.
4. Give free Tuition to poor children- There is no bigger help than to educate a person. Education is a light of life. If you see a child needs help in studies and can’t afford it. Give a helping hand to that child and offer free tuitions.
5. After party and function give remaining food to needy- It happens most of the time that after a party or function so much food remained.
Do not throw it. Give that food to hungry and needy people. This is better to fill someone stomach than to dump it in garbage.
6. Support poor to get justice- Normally society look at the poor people with content. They treat them like they are not human and do partiality. But it is wrong.
If you see this kind of injustice with them raise your voice. They are also a part of our society. Be human and help them.
7. Encourage your parents to help them- It will be amazing if your parents support you in helping the poor’s. Encourage them to do so. Involve them in charity activities. Let them feel the peace after doing these things.
8. Talk into your youth group- Not only the parents even the youth can be helpful in your charity. The youths are the saplings for society.
If they become helpful to the downtrodden and the poor than society will also become prosperous. Make groups, organize charity events and spread the word ‘Help the poor and needy’.
9. Help poor girl to marry- In India people sees a child as a burden. The reason is the marriage of girl child needs lots of money. The rich can afford it but the poor sees it like curse because a monster named dowry is also there in India.
10. Buy books for poor child who can’t afford- As we have said education gives light and direction to one’s life. So, always try to help the poor at least in education.
If you see a child around you who cannot afford books for studies then try to buy that child books. You can also give your previous classes books to that child if you have not studying them. Don’t sell back to the book shop.
11. Donate a part of allowance to the poor and needy- If you see a person around you is so poor that cannot meet to her/his basic needs. You can do one thing in this case.
You get many allowances apart your salary. You can daily save little money from that allowance and after sometime that little money can be proved helpful to the poor.
12. Offer jobs to them- If a poor person is willing to do a work and you are able to give her/him job then just go for it. Earning money is far better than taking it for granted.
Because of work the poor person can develop her/his personality, confidence and make life meaningful. So, try to give jobs to the poor and the needy.
13. If you are Doctor Give free services- Doctors are considered God on earth because they can give a new life to one. But the fee of doctors and the treatment money any disease seems so costly to the poor.
If you are doctor try to give free service to those who cannot afford your medical fees. Also you can give them free medicines.
14. Be humble at their mistake- Nobody is perfect in this world and so do the human. We have seen that if a poor person does a mistake we become so harsh to him.
Try not to do this because anyone can do mistake. Not a big deal. Be humble with him and talk over the mistake with kindness. That piece of talk will make him believe humanity.
15. Build a washroom for the poor- We have poor people don’t have washrooms so they use an open ground as their washroom. This is not only dirty but also makes people sick because of dirtiness.
They do because they can’t afford a washroom. Try to help them make washroom for them. If they become hygienic they remain healthy.
16- Social media- Today the social media can be very helpful in these matters. You can post your events related to donation or charity for poor on facebook, twitter and all.
Your post spreads like fire. More and more people join you in noble cause. The more people the more you can do for poor and needy.
17. Better understanding- the best to help the poor to have a better understanding between you and them. If this happens they will tell you there problems and you can help them more easily. Have feeling of humanity with them.
Respond with a smile, wipe their tears, share your happiness with them etc. there are endless ways to help them. Be human and spread humanity.
Help poor people — heart touching Video
At first blush, this question might seem like a no-brainer to readers.
But, who are the poor? What does God’s Word say about the poor? How do we effectively help the poor? Let’s dig in!
Who are the poor?
Because all of us come from different backgrounds, cultures, and expectations, what we define as poor, may not actually be poor to others or even in God’s eyes.
Determining who the poor really are can become a very subjective exercise. To prevent that we must first establish a common understanding of whom the poor are as presented in the Scriptures.
The two primary Greek words used in the New Testament for the word poor are penichros and ptōchos.
Penichros is defined as needy while ptōchos has more severe implications meaning reduced to beggary, destitute of wealth, influence, position, honor, lowly, afflicted, helpless, powerless to accomplish an end, lacking in anything.
John MacArthur writes, “The word commonly used for ordinary poverty was penichros, and is used of the widow Jesus saw giving an offering in the Temple. She had very little, but she did have two small copper coins (see Luke 21:2). She was poor but not a beggar. One who is penichros poor has at least some meager resources. One who is ptōchos poor, however, is completely dependent on others for sustenance. He has absolutely no means of self-support.”
For the purpose of this article, I’ve chosen to focus on the ptōchos poor, those that are helpless and lack everything.
Two Kinds of Poverty
The New Testament describes two kinds of ptōchos poverty:
1. Materially Poor – But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, . . . . (Matthew 6:3 NIV).
This verse clearly points out the existence of the materially poor. This is not a command to give from Jesus but a description of how we are to give (quietly). This verse primarily strikes at our motive for giving to the poor as it comes in the context of a warning from Jesus to not practice acts of righteousness so that others will notice.
2. Spiritually Poor – Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:3 NIV)
This verse speaks of those who are spiritually poor and how they are blessed because of their poverty. Matthew Henry’s concise commentary shares this insight, “The poor in spirit are happy. These bring their minds to their condition, when it is a low condition. They are humble and lowly in their own eyes. They see their want, bewail their guilt, and thirst after a Redeemer. The kingdom of grace is of such; the kingdom of glory is for them.”
Obviously, no one desires material poverty, but this verse makes it clear that all of us should desire a spiritual poverty that recognizes the need for forgiveness, a savior and God’s continued presence in our lives.
To keep this article focused and brief, we will focus on the materially poor.
What the Scriptures Reveal about God and Poverty
There are many Scriptures that address the God’s heart for and perspective of the poor but I have selected just a few to help us draw a conclusion to the subject question:
- Giving and helping the poor is core to God’s character: As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” (2 Corinthians 9:9 NIV) Also, 1 Samuel 2:8 NIV shares, “He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes
and has them inherit a throne of honor. “For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; on them he has set the world.”
- Jesus assumes we will be giving to the poor (notice not “if” but “when”): “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.” (Matthew 6:2 NIV)
- True followers of Christ gave to the poor: “But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” (Luke 19:8 NIV) Paul was eager to give as well: “All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.” (Galatians 2:10 NIV)
- When we give to the poor, we are giving to God: “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” (Proverbs 19:17 NIV)
- When we give to the poor, it honors God: “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker,
but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” (Proverbs 14:31 NIV)
- The Israelites were commanded to provide for the poor and were blessed for their generosity: “At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.” (Deuteronomy 14:28-29 NIV)
- Not helping the poor was reason for judgment in the past: “ ‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.” (Ezekiel 16:49 NIV)
- It will be a topic at the future judgment: “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” (Matthew 25:34-46 NIV)
Specific Commands from Jesus and His Word
Here are three specific commands from Jesus and His Word. One to the rich young ruler wondering what his life lacked and the others to more general audiences of followers:
- “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. (Matthew 19:20-22 NIV)
- Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” (Luke 14:12-14 NIV)
- If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:17-18 NIV)
While the first is a specific command to an individual, the principles apply to all of Christ’s followers, which is that we must give generously to the poor, and that when we do, it’s an eternal investment. Luke 14:12-14 clearly shares Jesus’ heart toward the poor and needy and is a specific command to His followers to be intentional about reaching out and providing for them. The passage in 1 John is a clear warning to those who say they are Christ’s followers but the actions don’t align with their proclaimed faith. In this verse, we are compelled to provide for those in need.
How can we help the materially poor?
After just a brief review of Scripture it becomes very clear that we are commanded to help the poor. God demonstrates His heart for the poor and needy by His own example, through His promises for those who do, and through His perfect judgments for those who don’t. But how does one give to the poor effectively? Here are four suggestions:
1. Give strategically through a trusted ministry or foundation.
You can effectively give your time and talents to the poor by supporting a local rescue mission or community organization that is trusted and has a proven track record helping the poor and needy. Knowing how to choose the best charities is important. If your church has a direct ministry to the poor and needy, this is a great starting place!
2. Give strategically by giving more than money.
Effective long-term support of the poor and needy typically requires more than money. For the poor and needy who are mentally and physically able to recover, I encourage readers to plug in with respected and trusted ministries and community organizations to give by sharing practical skills, such as job/vocational skills, budgeting, and basic life skills that will effectively empower those in need for long-term recovery.
3. Give spontaneously and cheerfully.
I’m often asked, “Should I give to the beggar on the street corner?” Many are rightfully skeptical due to recent scandals of pan handlers who are not truly in need. My advice is to listen to the Holy Spirit. If you sense a burden or call to give, then give cheerfully and obediently. If you don’t, then don’t give. If your motive is pure, you will never regret a decision to give. Now this advice can only be successful if you are asking God and listening to Him.
4. Get equipped.
I recommend two books that will equip you with how to effectively help the poor. The first is When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor . . . and Yourself by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert. A second resource is titled, Giving Wisely by Jonathan Martin.
How about you? Have you found an effective way to help the poor that would equip other readers? Share any lessons you learned as well!

Poverty is a tragic condition that afflicts millions of people around the globe. Many struggle to obtain basic necessities and to provide for themselves and their families, yearning for a prosperous life free from the incessant distractions and anxieties of an impoverished way of living.
Fortunately, rates of extreme poverty are falling around the globe, and drastically so, thanks to the advent of government reforms/market liberalization.[1]
As reassuring as it can be to remain conscientious of the significant progress occurring in our world, however, millions still remain under the poverty line; economic progress, while ongoing, is not inevitable, and still necessitates committed efforts as a society to ensure the welfare of all people. Nonetheless, there are numerous ways in which you contribute towards the cause of further eradicating poverty.
-
1
Volunteer. There are tons of ways to help out in your community through direct action. Ask at your local religious organization, or non-profit. Check out programs at your local library and see if they need assistance.
- There are many different groups that you can work with: children, the elderly, the mentally ill, the homeless, women. You’ll need to decide which group you want to focus on.
- You can do things like teaching a course in resume development, computer skills. You could start up a local community garden and teach courses on how to grow sustainable food. A large number of people who are poor cannot afford to buy much produce, so teaching them a sustainable and cheap way to grow their own food, could help alleviate some of that vitamin deficiency.
- You can work in shelters, soup kitchens, community centers, at after-school programs, and employment centers.
-
2
Help an individual. Even helping one individual can make a small change for the better. If you see someone who needs help, talk to them. Give them some money, even a few dollars can help. Offer your help without being condescending or judgmental.
- Try to help them find a place like a shelter or a soup kitchen.
- Ignoring the poverty around you, or making judgment calls about the people in poverty, is a surefire way to do nothing to help. You don’t know how that person got into poverty and you don’t know what they are going to use their money for.
- If you are afraid of what they are going to use your money for, you can offer them something (e.g. to buy food, give them a job, buy clothing, etc.). This way, you can make sure that they get what they need without using your money for something bad like weapons or drugs.

Educate yourself. There are many ways that poverty is linked to reproductive rights, to workers’ rights, to environmental justice. By educating yourself, you will figure out where your time and energy is best spent in helping the impoverished gain the skills and the power they need to help themselves.[2]
- There is a good deal of research that shows how the cycle of poverty is linked to the criminal justice system, which does little to re-educate its felons. Especially in a country like the U.S. the downward spiral of prisoners fuels their poverty and is a system that must change. This toxic feedback loop is especially difficult for people of color, who are already usually disenfranchised by poverty and the structure of society today. [3]
- Reproductive rights are linked to poverty. Access to reproductive control, especially for women, means fewer children, which typically links to higher education and higher opportunities for work. Reproductive health programs mean fewer teenage pregnancies and better education for women.

Donate. Donations to your local and global organizations are incredibly important. Many of these organizations rely on donations to survive and serve their communities. Make sure you know where your money is going if you’re donating money. You want to be sure that the organization is actually helping people.
- Make a pledge to give up some treat for a month (like fancy coffee, or chocolate, or clothes shopping) and use the money that you save to donate to a local or global charity or non-profit.
- Other than money you can donate food, clothing, toiletry items, old furniture, toys and books to local shelters and programs. These donations help people in straitened circumstances.
- There is a variety of books for prisoners programs in various cities. See if your city or town has one. If not, maybe try to start one. Making sure that prisoners are getting the education they need (and often, have been denied) will help them to become productive members of society rather than stuck in the criminal justice system for the rest of their life.

Direct Relief, a humanitarian aid organization, says: «Thanks to social media, you’re able to transfer money now to an individual far easier than you were able to before. The reason why Direct Relief and other nonprofits exist is we do something an individual can’t do on their own, like warehouse and supply, medic aid, and scale. But now there are a number of platforms where you can give directly to a person who’s affected.»

Start or join an organization. Gather like-minded individuals and pick something to do with poverty to work to alleviate. Startup a group to help educate community members on poverty, or create an after-school program for low-income kids.
- Use your group to have a benefit concert. Put flyers around your town or city and try to get the local paper to cover it. Have the proceeds towards helping people in your community.
- Start a petition in your community to help low-income students have more nutritious food, or to make your school system adopt a better sex-education program.
- Programs like Results[4]
and Children’s Defense Fund[5]
work locally and globally to support legislation and practices that particularly help children to overcome poverty.

Be cautious when donating online. According to Direct Relief, you need to do research before donating on a crowdfunding site. «Unfortunately, it’s not very hard to create one of these pages and pretend to be someone you’re not. It’s just like anything else online—you need to take the extra steps to be diligent and make sure what you’re supporting is legitimate. Check IRS filings and whether they’re a registered organization with the government, as well as whether they abide by good business standards by checking with the Better Business Bureau.»

Take legislative action. Get involved in your local government and in your country’s government. Pay attention to laws and bills that are being passed that impact programs to help people who are impoverished.[6]
- Support a health care system that protects and helps the people who are part of it. Many people, especially in the U.S. are forced into poverty because of a medical situation that they cannot afford.
- Support better education for your community and your country. Better education means people who have the life skills and the knowledge that help them realize their full potential and to become productive, interested members of their communities.
-
3
Help create a dialogue about poverty. Simply opening up discussion in your local community, and on a global scale, can help work towards alleviating it. Challenge your friends and family’s assumptions about poverty.
- Write a column for your local newspaper, or a letter to the editor, outlining what needs to be done in your community to help people who are poor.

Generally speaking,
while aid agencies have long been involved in helping the poor to respond to changes around them through educational programmes and development cooperation projects,
they have remained slow at recognizing that aid that focuses on small-scale, export-oriented entrepreneurs can be a useful tool to alleviate poverty. See P. Tiffen,»Vertically integrated producer-consumer marketing chains: re-inventing comparative advantage for
the
poor», op. cit., p. 17.
P. Tiffen,» Vertically integrated producer- consumer marketing chains: re- inventing comparative advantage for the poor», op. cit., p. 17.
