Essay About Talent — Is Talent Born or Made? Writing Tips

Are some children born with a natural talent for sport or music, or can any child be taught such skills?

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Is Talent Born or Made Essay Answer

Nobody would argue that some children seem to be born with a natural talent for certain things, be it sports, music, or something else. However, if such talent is actually genetic or not is arguable, but there is no doubt that any child can be coached and instructed in skills to develop or nurture any ‘natural’ talent.

Some children show skill in certain areas early in life through physical prowess or artistic and creative actions. If parents help develop the child’s talent through coaching or instruction, the child may achieve a very high level of proficiency.

Other children might become interested in a certain activity such as sport or creative pastimes later in life, possibly through their own process of discovery and may channel such interest positively and develop the necessary skills to perform well in their chosen area of interest.

What we have learned from people who compete at the highest level in sports and also world-class musicians is that talent alone, whether considered natural or not, is not enough to guarantee success. The most successful creative people who rely on talent put in an incredible amount of hard work training, practicing, and developing their skill or craft. And in many cases, sacrifice other aspects of life in favor of their chosen activity.

I believe that even the ‘most-gifted’ child would not fulfill their full potential without proper support and development of their skill or talent. In contrast, a child with less talent who is coached, nurtured, supported, and has lots of enthusiasm can perfect their skills and perform at the highest levels.

Born With Talent Quotes By Megan McArdle

the people who dislike challenges think that talent is a fixed thing that you’re either born with or not. The people who relish them think that it’s something you can nourish by doing stuff you’re not good at. — Megan McArdle

Born With Talent Quotes By Camille Paglia

Heaven help the American-born boy with a talent for ballet. — Camille Paglia

Born With Talent Quotes By Alison Moyet

With the exceptional talent that is Guy Sigsworth as producer and collaborator, we have recorded a collection of original songs that sees me moving away from a generic line up and back into the world of a programmer. Born of reconstructed improvisation I like to think of it as Prog-Pop, but I also like to think of big dogs as small horses. So don’t hang on to that thought long. Unless, of course, you think it astute of me in which case I am right — Alison Moyet

Born With Talent Quotes By Steven Pressfield

Similarly the call to growth can be conceptualized as personal (a daimon or genius, an angel or a muse) or as impersonal, like the tides or the transiting of Venus. Either way works, as long as we’re comfortable with it. Or if extra-dimensionality doesn’t sit well with you in any form, think of it as «talent,» programmed into our genes by evolution. The point, for the thesis I’m seeking to put forward, is that there are forces we can call our allies. As Resistance works to keep us from becoming who we were born to be, equal and opposite powers are counterpoised against it. These are our allies and angels. — Steven Pressfield

Born With Talent Quotes By Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

The misery that oppresses you lies not in your profession but in yourself! What man in the world would not find his situation intolerable if he chooses a craft, an art, indeed any form of life, without experiencing an inner calling? Whoever is born with a talent, or to a talent, must surely find in that the most pleasing of occupations! Everything on this earth has its difficult sides! Only some inner drive — pleasure, love — can help us overcome obstacles, prepare a path, and lift us out of the narrow circle in which others tread out their anguished, miserable existences! — Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Born With Talent Quotes By Tiger Woods

Talent is something you are born with, and a skill is something you develop. 99% of what you need to succeed in golf are skills — Tiger Woods

Born With Talent Quotes By Rajneesh

My own experience is that everybody is born with a certain talent, and unless he lives that talent to its fullest, something in him will remain missing. He will go on feeling that somehow something is not there that should be. — Rajneesh

Born With Talent Quotes By J.D. Vance

There was, and still is, a sense that those who make it are of two varieties. The first are lucky: They come from wealthy families with connections, and their lives were set from the moment they were born. The second are the meritocratic: They were born with brains and couldn’t fail if they tried. Because very few in Middletown fall into the former category, people assume that everyone who makes it is just really smart. To the average Middletonian, hard work doesn’t matter as much as raw talent. It’s — J.D. Vance

Born With Talent Quotes By Krystal Sutherland

Some people are born with an ear for music, some people are born with a talent for drawing, some people…have a built-in radar that tells them where a comma needs to go in a sentence. — Krystal Sutherland

Born With Talent Quotes By Anton Chekhov

Faith is an aptitude of the spirit. It is, in fact, a talent: you must be born with it. — Anton Chekhov

Born With Talent Quotes By Charles Yu

When you are a kid, playing with the other kids on your street, and everyone is fighting over who they are going to be, you have to call dibs early, as soon as you see one another, pretty much as soon as you step outside your house, even if you’re halfway down the block. First dibs gets Hans Solo. Everyone knows that. You don’t even have to say it. If you are first, you are Han Solo, period, end of story … I was never totally sure why everyone wanted to be Han Solo. Maybe it was because he wasn’t born into it, like Luke, with the birthright and the natural talent for the Force and the premade story. Solo had to make his own story. He was a freelance protagonist, a relatively ordinary guy who got to the major leagues by being quick with a gun and a joke. He was, basically, a hero because he was funny. — Charles Yu

Born With Talent Quotes By Henry Beard

Few golfers are born with the natural talent for hitting the ball, but every player is blessed with the God-given ability to throw a club. — Henry Beard

Born With Talent Quotes By Florence King

There’s no such thing as a ‘writing talent.’ Anyone can be taught to write a good sentence. What writers are born with is a ‘third ear,’ not for words but for human nature. And like people with an ear for music who can play the piano without lessons or notes, we can’t explain how we know what we know — we just know. — Florence King

Born With Talent Quotes By Alexander Chee

Alone with myself and my talent, I chose it in some way I never had before. I chose myself also. The person I was and had been all along, the one who had not belonged to the place where she was born, nor to the places she found along the way, the one always under the mask, here she came out and breathed the air and felt at home. I had always believed that to be this person might destroy me or the world, and so as the world seemed to end, this made the end of the world seem nearly a paradise. — Alexander Chee

Born With Talent Quotes By Ch'kara SilverWolf

I believe that ever person is born with talent
Maya Angelou — Ch’kara SilverWolf

Born With Talent Quotes By Dejan Stojanovic

Those who would like to become writers attend courses on writing poetry and prose and analyze their own work and that of other writers in development. Teachers teach them that talent is not required and that anyone, who wants to be a writer, can do it if they only master the technique of writing and master the formulas of the genre that they choose. With a little brain storming ideas written on cards, as well as designs and plans on the table, one can even write a novel in a month. There is no secret; the whole secret is in the technique, a little research, and the rest is solved by form, according to a formula, in which it is all nicely wrapped up and packaged.
And so, a bestseller is born. — Dejan Stojanovic

Born With Talent Quotes By Jim Stovall

that we would receive the overwhelming message that the vast majority of adults feel they have no talent in these areas. On the other hand, if we were to conduct the same poll among 4-year-olds, we would find that virtually all of them are convinced they can sing, and virtually all of them have confidence in their ability to dance. Most of the 4-year-olds have little or no real talent, but, instead, they are endowed with incredible confidence in their own potential. This confidence, or certainty of success, is something we were all born with but we later traded in for a strong dose of what we call realism. Shortly after we reach school age, we are taught lessons about the world that revolve around us, limiting our vision and becoming realistic. — Jim Stovall

Born With Talent Quotes By Shreya Ghoshal

I consider music to be very sacred and I feel I’m blessed to be born with a talent which allows me to make the best of it — Shreya Ghoshal

Born With Talent Quotes By Pete Dexter

From my own experience, I can tell you that there are mornings when you sit down at the typewriter and knock out three pages in forty-five minutes, and you look at yourself in the toaster over breakfast and your head’s all misshapen and pointy, and you say, «Son, you were born with talent. — Pete Dexter

Born With Talent Quotes By Terry Pratchett

[Y]ou weren’t born with a talent for witchcraft: it didn’t come easily; you worked hard at it because you wanted it. You forced the world to give it to you, no matter the price, and the price is and always will be high … People say you don’t find witchcraft; witchcraft finds you. But you’ve found it, even if at the time you didn’t know what it was you were finding, and you grabbed it by its scrawny neck and made it work for you. — Terry Pratchett

Born With Talent Quotes By Diane Warren

Born With Talent Quotes By Maya Angelou

I believe that every person is born with talent. — Maya Angelou

Born With Talent Quotes By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

I will gladly give lessons as a favor, particularly when I see that my student has talent, inclination, and anxiety to learn; but to be obliged to go to a house at a certain hour, or to have to wait at home for a pupil, is what I cannot do, no matter how much money it may bring me in … I am a composer and was born to be a Kapellmeister. I neither can nor ought to bury the talent for composition with which God in his goodness has so richly endowed me … — Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Born With Talent Quotes By James Hamilton-Paterson

I also wish I’d been born with a clearly defined talent for something, or else stupid. — James Hamilton-Paterson

Born With Talent Quotes By Emil Cioran

We say: he has no talent, only tone. But tone is precisely what cannot be invented — we’re born with it. Tone is an inherited grace, the privilege some of us have of making our organic pulsations felt — tone is more than talent, it is its essence. — Emil Cioran

I believe a ‘talented’ person is one who has learned how to effectively cultivate and polish any of the many desirable capabilities with which most of us are born but few of us nurture. — Marilyn Vos Savant

Born With Talent Quotes By Oliver Goldsmith

Philosophy can add to our happiness in no other manner but by diminishing our misery; it should not pretend to increase our present stock, but make us economists of what we are possessed of. Happy were we all born philosophers; all born with a talent of thus dissipating our own cares by spreading them upon all mankind. — Oliver Goldsmith

Born With Talent Quotes By Susan Cooper

Any great gift of power or talent is a burden … But there is nothing to be done. If you were born with the gift, then you must serve it, and nothing in this world or out of it may stand in the way of that service, because that is why you were born and that is the Law. — Susan Cooper

Born With Talent Quotes By Airicka Phoenix

No one is born with a talent. Talent is something we create on our own with practice and dedication. — Airicka Phoenix

Born With Talent Quotes By Sally Wentworth

There is also the basic inequality of being born either with a natural talent or without one. Clever or stupid. No matter how much you try to argue against it, Dora, we are not born equal. All we can ever strive for is the equality of opportunity for those who have the ability to make the most of it. — Sally Wentworth

Born With Talent Quotes By Gretchen Carlson

I believe every child is born with a gift from God — big or small — and that we should all make the most of our talents. — Gretchen Carlson

Born With Talent Quotes By Louis B. Mayer

The idea of a star being born is bushwa. A star is created, carefully and cold-bloodily, built up from nothing, from nobody. Age, beauty, talent, least of all talent, has nothing to do with it. We could make silk purses out of sows’ ears every day of the week. — Louis B. Mayer

Born With Talent Quotes By Anton Chekhov

Faith is a capacity of the spirit. It is like talent: you have to be born with it. — Anton Chekhov

Born With Talent Quotes By Gordon R. Dickson

There was more to modern mining than logic. The best engineers had feel. It was a sensitivity born of experience, of talent, and even of something like love, with which they commanded, not only the mountains, but the machine they rode and directed. Now this too was added to the list of man’s endeavors for which some special talent was needed. — Gordon R. Dickson

Born With Talent Quotes By Robert Musil

For a long time now a hint of aversion had lain on everything he did and experienced, a shadow of impotence and loneliness, an all-encompassing distaste for which he could not find the complementary inclination. He felt at times as though he had been born with a talent for which there was at present no objective. — Robert Musil

Born With Talent Quotes By Ian St. John

Kenny was actually here at Melwood as a 15-year-old schoolboy. He came on trial and he went home afterwards. It was only later that Bill Shankly realised that Dalglish was here as a boy and he went mad! He said ‘how did we miss him?’ Kenny just had the football brain. He was born with it and you can’t give that to people. He had that natural born talent. — Ian St. John

Born With Talent Quotes By Bill Gates

I hope someday what people can do with their lives depends on their talents and how hard they are willing to work, rather than on where they happen to be born. — Bill Gates

The person born with a talent they are meant to use will find their greatest happiness in using it. — Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Born With Talent Quotes By Thomas Aquinas

Creator of all things, true source of light and wisdom, origin of all being, graciously let a ray of your light penetrate the darkness of my understanding. Take from me the double darkness in which I have been born, an obscurity of sin and ignorance. Give me a keen understanding, a retentive memory, and the ability to grasp things correctly and fundamentally. Grant me the talent of being exact in my explanations and the ability to express myself with thoroughness and charm. Point out the beginning, direct the progress, and help in the completion. — Thomas Aquinas

Born With Talent Quotes By Sharon Osbourne

Talent is a gift from God. That is something that you are born with. To be able to be born with singing talent is just a gift. You can learn how to sing better, but you cannot learn to sing with certain quality. It is just something you are born with. — Sharon Osbourne

Born With Talent Quotes By Esi Edugyan

It ain’t fair. Gifts is divided so damn unevenly. Like God just left his damn sack of talents in a ditch somewhere and said, Go help yourselves, ladies and gents.Them’s that get there first can help themselves to the biggest ones. In every other walk of life, a jack can work to get what he want. but ain’t no amount of toil going get you a lick more talent than you born with. Geniuses ain’t made, brother, they just is. and I just was not. — Esi Edugyan

Matthew Davidson is blessed with a God-given, born-in-the-bone, talent. His musicianship is far beyond his age. He obviously loves what he is doing! — Joe Osborn

Born With Talent Quotes By Michelangelo

You must know that I am, of all men who were ever born, the most inclined to love persons. Whenever I behold someone who possesses any talent or displays any dexterity of mind, who can do or say something more appropriately than the rest of the world, I am compelled to fall in love with him; and then I give myself up to him so entirely that I am no longer my own property, but wholly his. — Michelangelo

Creativity is not a talent; It is a skill. A talent is something you are born with. A skill is something you learn. — Josh Linkner

Born With Talent Quotes By Benedict Cumberbatch

The generation now below me were born into a world where if you’re a kid with raw talent now, you can roll in and land a lead in a Scorsese film. You don’t have to have prove yourself by working up the ranks, doing the classics, and getting the canon under your belt in the way the great Sirs and Dames of mom and dad’s generation — the [Ben] Kingsleys and [Helen] Mirrens and [Anthony] Hopkinses and people of that ilk. — Benedict Cumberbatch

Born With Talent Quotes By Carlos Ruiz Zafon

I think you are talented and passionate, Isabella. More than you think and less than you expect. But there are a lot of people with talent and passion, and many of them never get anywhere. This is only the first step for achieving anything in life. Natural talent is like an athlete’s strength. You can be born with more or less ability, but nobody can become an athlete just because he or she was born tall, or strong, or fast. What makes the athlete, or the artist, is the work, the vocation and the technique. The intelligence you are born with is just ammunition. To achieve something with it you need to transform your mind into a high-precision weapon. — Carlos Ruiz Zafon

Born With Talent Quotes By Daniel Stern

I’m no expert, no natural-born talent, definitely no guru. As you’ll soon learn, only through a colossal experiment in trial and error did I reach the sexual summit. Although I own up to having worn a cape in a few intimate scenarios, I don’t possess supernatural powers of any kind. Perhaps my IQ is slightly above average, but Mensa isn’t busting down my door. If pressed to define myself, I’d say I’m Horatio Alger between the sheets: a self-made swinging single male. . . with a hefty dose of Buster Keaton mixed in. — Daniel Stern

Born With Talent Quotes By Iris Apfel

You can be born with the talent to be an opera star, but you’ve got to work and practice it. — Iris Apfel

Born With Talent Quotes By Georgia Cates

She’s giving me that duh, really? look that my little sister gives me. Women must be born with that special talent. — Georgia Cates

Born With Talent Quotes By Ben Fountain

Inner peace — you need to know who you are, what you want out of life. You have to do your own thinking, and for that you better know who you are, and not just know but be secure in it, comfortable with yourself. Plus you gotta have discipline. Stamina. And luck sure helps. A little luck counts for a lot, including our great good luck of being born into the greatest economic system ever devised. It’s not a perfect system by any means, but overall it’s responsible for tremendous human progress. In just the past century alone, we’ve seen something like a seven-to-one improvement in the standard of living. I’m not saying we don’t have problems, we’ve got a helluva lot of problems, but that’s where the genius of the free market comes in, all the drive and talent and energy that goes into solving those problems. — Ben Fountain

Born With Talent Quotes By Jeffrey K. Liker

Some might debate whether people are born with talent, or whether it is developed. Toyota’s stand is clear — give us the seeds of talent and we will plant them, tend the soil, water and nurture the seedlings, and eventually harvest the fruits of our labor… Of course the wise farmer selects only the best seeds, but even with careful selection there is no guarantee that the seeds will grow, or that the fruits they yield will be sweet, and yet the effort must be made because it provides the best chance of developing a strong crop. — Jeffrey K. Liker

Born With Talent Quotes By Joyce Carol Oates

I live now for my work. I live for my work. I live only for my work. One day I will do work deserving of my talent & desire. One day. This I pledge. This I vow. I want you to love me for my work. But if you don’t love me I can’t continue my work. So please love me! — so I can continue my work. I am trapped here! I am trapped in this blond mannequin with the face. I can only breathe through that face! Those nostrils! That mouth! Help me to be perfect. If God was in us, we would be perfect. God is not in us, we know this for we are not perfect. I don’t want money & fame. I want only to be perfect. The blond mannequin Monroe is me & is not me. She is not me. She is what I was born. Yes I want you to love her. So you will love me. Oh I want to love you! Where are you? I look, I look & there is no one there. — Joyce Carol Oates

Born With Talent Quotes By Haruki Murakami

Writing talent is similar to the art of chatting up a girl. You can improve to a certain degree through practice, but basically you are either born with it or you aren’t. — Haruki Murakami

Born With Talent Quotes By Maya Angelou

I believe talent is like electricity. We don’t understand electricity. We use it. You can plug into it and light up a lamp, keep a heart pump going, light a cathedral, or you can electrocute a person with it. Electricity will do all that. It makes no judgment. I think talent is like that. I believe every person is born with talent. — Maya Angelou

Born With Talent Quotes By Susan Cooper

It is a burden … (M)ake no mistake about that. Any great gift or power or talent is a burden and this more than any, and you will long to be free of it. But there is nothing to be done. If you were born with the gift, then you must serve it, and nothing in this world or out of it may stand in the way of that service, because that is why you were born and that is the Law.»
— Susan Cooper («Merriman» The Dark is Rising) — Susan Cooper

Born With Talent Quotes By Laurie Halse Anderson

You were born with the seeds of your talent, the ability to observe the world around you and weave piece of it into a story. I believe that most — if not all — people are born with these seeds. What separates the writers from the non-writers is that the writers actually sit down and, you know … write. — Laurie Halse Anderson

Born With Talent Quotes By Fran Lebowitz

I believe in talent. I know you’re not supposed to believe in that anymore because you’re supposed to believe if you just work hard you can do anything. That’s how you succeed, maybe. But talent is something you’re born with. You cannot acquire it by working hard, and you cannot lose it by lying around either. — Fran Lebowitz

Born With Talent Quotes By Gabriel Macht

I think if you’re artistic in any way, you’re probably born with it. I guess it’s a talent that can be learned here and there, but I think the instinct to tell a story or to create something happens maybe in the womb. — Gabriel Macht

Born With Talent Quotes By Paul Halmos

To be a scholar of mathematics you must be born with talent, insight, concentration, taste, luck, drive and the ability to visualize and guess. — Paul Halmos

Born With Talent Quotes By Isabel Allende

Everyone is born with some special talent … — Isabel Allende

Born With Talent Quotes By Pablo Casals

I see no particular merit in the fact that I was an artist at the age of eleven. I was born with an ability, with music in me, that is all. No special credit was due me. The only credit we can claim is for the use we make of the talent we are given. That is why I urge young musicians: «Don’t be vain because you happen to have talent. You are not responsible for that; it was not of your doing. What you do with your talent is what matters. You must cherish this gift. Do not demean or waste what you have been given. Work — work constantly and nourish it.»
Of course the gift to be cherished most of all is that of life itself. One’s work should be a salute to life. — Pablo Casals

Born With Talent Quotes By Dean Karnazes

I wasn’t born with any innate talent. I’ve never been naturally gifted at anything. I always had to work at it. The only way I knew how to succeed was to try harder than anyone else. Dogged persistence is what got me through life. But here was something I was half-decent at. Being able to run great distances was the one thing I could offer the world. Others might be faster, but I could go longer. My strongest quality is that I never give up. — Dean Karnazes

Born With Talent Quotes By Orson Scott Card

You shouldn’t be proud of being good at something, if you were born with it. That would be as dumb as being proud of having two legs, or speaking a language, or pooping. — Orson Scott Card

Born With Talent Quotes By Anson Dorrance

If there is a defining aspect of UNC women’s soccer, and its success, it is what we call the competitive cauldron. It is the pinnacle of our program. The great part about the cauldron is that it fosters a quality we can all possess. It isn’t a talent we are born with. Competitive drive is not governed by innate ability, but by self-discipline and desire — Anson Dorrance

Born With Talent Quotes By Ernest Albert Law

What is the purpose of my writing about the various experiences of my life? It is not for publicity, but with the hope that the reader, especially my descendants, may plan a career to which they are naturally best adapted. Most children are born with a gift or talent which can be noticed in early childhood and should be encouraged and directed in the right way. Solomon said, ‘Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.’ Train does not mean compel, or to compare him with other children, but to encourage him in that for which he has a natural tendency. The boy who will become proficient in a lawful trade or profession, other things being favorable, will be a value to society and remunerative to himself and others. — Ernest Albert Law

IELTS Essay Discuss Both Views “People are born with certain talents”

It is generally believed that some people are born with certain talents, for instance for sport or music, and others are not. However, it is sometimes claimed that any child can be taught to become a good sports person or musician. Discuss both views and give your own opinion

Шаг первый: перефразируем задание + формулируем 1 аргумент за и 1 аргумент против во вступлении + выдвигаем наше мнение (какую сторону поддерживаем):

Talents are sometimes believed to be an only innate feature, some of which are physical or musical talents. Nonetheless, others assume that every youth could become proficient in any field. In my opinion, not only do human beings may study to the advanced levels in almost every area, but even so claimed gifted ones should also practice themselves to such degree. Firstly, this essay will discuss individual physical or mental capacities every person is born with, and, secondly, the insufficiency of a single talent will be analyzed.

Шаг 2: поясняем преимущество индивидуальных усилий + пример для подкрепления вашей позиции

On the one hand, every human is born with specific data that could be ideally fit to a precise professional area. This probably gives to one momentous advantage inasmuch as a personal factor possibly assists in it, thus, such a benefit cannot be emphasized too much. For example, having carried out research among high league basketball players, scientists have revealed that amid the most successful sportsmen the rate of tall sportspeople is much higher. Despite this, in the long run, it is possible that one talent is not enough.

Шаг 3: поясняем почему меры на государственном уровне необходимы + ослабляем этот аргумент предложением “However, it is clear that…”:

However, it is likely that to be gifted cannot merely be enough and I agree. Rarely do people realize the contrast between talent and experience, moreover, the inability to be born with the latter feature. As a result, a person should constantly ameliorate his skills in order to stay at a peak of his realm. For instance, according to a recent poll by The News Time newspaper, those children who came to the musical school showing more talent than the others, not necessarily graduated it better than their unequal peers.

Шаг 4: делаем вывод о преимуществе индивидуальных усилий (дублируем нашу позицию в заключении)

In conclusion, though many people may vary in their opinions, I am firmly convinced that namely practice reveals talent. This is due to the fact that, despite a gift, on no account, should the importance of hard work be ignored.
