I have a document with text and borders in a fuchsia type colour. The RGB colour was determined using a ColorPicker tool in Gimp, and then those RGB values used for a custom text colour in the Word document.

There are many separate items with this custom colour. Is there a way to make the custom colour darker for all items in the document, or simply to make the fuchsia colour print darker or more intense when I print it?

Yes, you can, maybe. I did this with Word 2010. Here are the steps:

  1. Press Ctrl-H, and click the More button in the Find and Replace dialog. Click the find tab.
  2. Click the Format button, and select Font.
  3. Select the color to be changed—leaving all else blank—and click OK.
  4. Click the Replace tab, and repeat steps 2 and 3 to select the new color.
  5. Click Replace All.

As far as I know it’s not possible to simply change a color so that every item that has that color assigned is changed.

I would assign styles to the different items in your document and assign the color in the style. That way you don’t always have to go to look for every item and change it, but change the color in the styles.

To get an idea of how to work with styles, see here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/style-basics-in-word-HA010230882.aspx#BM4
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/make-changes-to-a-quick-style-set-HA010201147.aspx

Unfortunately the colors that you set in Word are mostly not the same that you get printed out. That’s because your monitor uses RGB color space (additive color mixing) and your printer uses CMYK color space (subtractive color mixing).

enter image description here

Not all the colors that you can see on your screen can be printed, because your screen mixes the color with light and your printer with ink.

So to make the fuchsia color more intense in the sense of brighter or more luminous will not be possible to that extent that you would have on your screen. To make it darker is no problem.

It depends on the printer how well it can replicate a color. Cheaper printers often produce desaturated colors.

You have a document that many people have worked on, reviewed, edited, changed etc. Track changes is on for all these amendments. The default setting in Word is to track changes by author, which means that your document is like a rainbow with all those different colors — one for each person who made a change!

For example:

track_changes_author01

You need to send the document to someone else, but the recipient only needs to see what has changed, not who changed it — in other words, you don’t want all those rainbow colors to show. Instead, you want a single color to show the multiple insertions (e.g. ‘green for go’) and another color to show the deletions (e.g. ‘red for stop’), irrespective of who made those changes.

It’s easy to change, but be aware that if you change it for one document, the change holds for other documents on your computer. This is the case even after you close Word and reopen it. It’s a global setting for all your documents, not a setting for just one document.

  1. Go to the Review tab and click the little drop-down arrow below the Track Changes button. (In Word for Windows 2013 onwards, you have to click the dialog launcher icon and then go to the Advanced settings. See this blog post for details: https://cybertext.wordpress.com/2015/09/24/word-track-changes-settings/)
    track_changes_author02
  2. Select Change Tracking Options.
  3. For Insertions, change ‘by author’ to a specific color (e.g. green).
  4. For Deletions, change ‘by author’ to another specific color (e.g. red).
  5. Consider changing the color for Moves too, as they are green by default and if you use green for Insertions, then you should use another color (e.g. violet) for moves.
  6. Optional: Turn off the Track Formatting check box unless you really need this on. In most cases all it does is clutter up the document with tracking balloons.
    track_changes_author03
  7. Click OK. Your document’s track changes are now shown in the colors you set at steps 3, 4, and 5.

track_changes_author04

NOTE: The person’s name who made the change still displays when you hover over the change, but all insertions are now one color and all deletions are another color, no matter who made the change.

Right now Lilly’s favorite book is Fancy Nancy. She is obsessed. Her third birthday party was “Fancy Nancy” themed. The premise of the book is this little girl just wants to be fancy and she wants her family to be fancy so she uses fancy words and speaks in French and adds frilly toothpicks to her sandwiches. You get the gist…

Anyway, the other day, I was wearing this outfit and she said, “Mommy, I like all your purpley clothes.” I was like, “Thank you, baby! It’s called monochromatic. That’s a fancy word for when something is all in the same color family.” And Lilly’s mind was blown… because, I mean, it’s JUST LIKE Fancy Nancy. Or something.

Random story that doesn’t really have a point other than the fact that I have to laugh at myself teaching my three-year-old words like monochromatic. Because, obviously that’s a word she’ll use a ton in her life.

In any event, I absolutely LOVE monochromatic outfits (when done right) because it’s easy and I can work with pieces in the same color palette, but dress them up or break them up with jewelry, bags, shoes, etc.

This top from TOBI has been a FAVORITE of late. I love the mauvey color, I love how soft it is, I love show flowy it is, I love how I can wear it with denim or leggings, and I love that it’s made in the USA! Win, win, win!

What about you? Do you like monochromatic looks? Do you think it’s overdone or something that’s classic and will stick around for years?

See another fall “Monochromatic” look from the past here.

In this article, we will give you 5 ways to set different background colors for different pages in your Word document.

Word allows us to set a background color for our document. However, it will apply the same color for all pages. But, sometimes we may need to print a document with multiple background colors, or highlight important pages with different background colors. In such cases, we need some workarounds to set different background colors for different pages.Set Different Background Colors for Different Pages

Method 1: Insert a Text Box

  1. First and foremost, click “Insert” and choose “Text Box”.
  2. Next choose “Draw Text Box” on the drop-down menu.Click "Insert"->Click "Text Box"->Click "Draw Text Box"
  3. Then draw a text box to cover the entire page.
  4. Now right click on the outline of text box. Move cursor on “Wrap Text” and click “Behind Text” on its submenu. You will be able to see the texts then.Right Click ->Choose "Wrap Text"->Choose "Behind Text"
  5. Next, right click on text box outline again. This time choose “Format Shape”.
  6. In “Format Shape” dialog box, click “Fill” and then choose a fill color.Click "Fill"->Choose a Fill Color
  7. Then in the same box, click “Line Color” tab.
  8. And select “No line”. Close the box.Click "Line Color"->Select "No line"

Now if you need to print the document, go to open “Word Options” by clicking “File” and “Options”. Next click “Display” and check “Print drawings created in Word” and “Print background colors and images” boxes. Click “OK”.Click "Display"->Check Print Options->Click "OK"

Here is the effect:Effect of Inserting a Text Box

  4. Likely, right click on the shape.
  5. Repeat from step 4 to 8 in method 1.

Ensure the print options are properly set if you need to print the document.

The above 2 methods are best used to apply colors for individual pages. If you have multiple pages which need to be in the same color, you may consider the following solutions.

Method 3: Copy the Color to More Pages

  1. After employing method 2, click on colored page and press “Ctrl+ D” to copy the color.
  2. Next drag the shape to another page and release your cursor. You will see the color is perfectly pasted.Multiple Pages with the Same Background Color

Method 4: Insert Section Breaks

  1. If you need to apply a color for a number of pages in order, you can create a section first. Move cursor to the start of the first page in the section, click “Page Layout”, click “Breaks” and choose “Continuous”. This inserts a section break.Click "Page Layout"->Click "Breaks"->Click "Continuous"
  2. Move cursor to the end of the last page in the section. Use the same way to insert a section break.
  3. Then double click on the header of the first page in the section to enter header and footer mode.
  4. Deselect the “Link to Previous”.Deselect "Link to Previous"
  5. Go to the first header of the next section. Repeat step 4.
  6. Then use either method 1 or 2 to color the pages.

Method 5: Split a Document
