You should write at least 150 words.

Transport preferences among young people from different countries

Bar Chart - Transports young people in four countries prefer to use

Model Answer 1:
The bar graph outlines the types of transportation the young generation in Grain Britain, USA, Germany and France prefer to use to commute.

Overall, automobiles are the most preferred vehicles for commuting in these countries among the youths except for Germany where the highest proportion of youths prefer to travel by their bicycles.

The illustration shows that three-quarters of French youths use a car while a few of them prefer two-wheelers, which accounts for nearly 15% of them. The majority of young Americans choose an automobile for commuting whereas half of these young people travel by motorbike. In Great Britain, under 30% of youngsters travel by bicycle and double of this proportion travel through on autos.

Furthermore, the preference of the German youngs is very different from those of others, as more young people like to travel using a bicycle (about 45%) instead of a car (40%). The percentage of young motorcyclists is the same for France and Great Britain (exactly 10%) while this ratio is slightly higher for Germans, which is around 15%.

Model Answer 2:
The column graph outlines the transportation preference among the young people in Great Britain, USA, Germany and France. As an overall trend, the young generation, except in Germany, mainly like to use the car as a mean of commuting and this ratio is the highest in France.

To illustrate, six out of ten British youth favour cars to travel. Less than one-third of them use bicycles and only one of ten youth in the UK pick motorbike to commute. A similar ratio of US adolescents (precise 60%) prefers cars but their preference for motorbikes is higher than that of the UK, 30% to be exact. However, less percentage of American youngsters prefers riding bicycles, only one out of ten. Germany shows an interesting trend where almost half of the adolescents like to ride a bicycle, a trend uncommon in other countries. 40% of them choose cars as their transportation and the rest of them inclined to use motorbikes. Finally, the highest percentage of car-loving youngs are located in France, where around 2 out of 3 adolescent fancy cars over other vehicles. Around 10% of French youth use bicycle and a similar percentage ride on motorized bikes.

The bar graph illustrates the ways for transportation that are preferred by the youth of countries like Great Britain, The USA, Germany, and France.
It is seen from the graph that cars had contributed to the highest medium of transportation. In Great Britain, the

percentage

of cars selected by the young generation were 60%.

However

, the rate of motorcycles used by people was only 10%. The highest

percentage

of cars were used by youths of France, whereas the

percentage

of cars used by young Germans were only 40%, which serves as the lowest

percentage

in the contribution of cars amongst all countries.

Additionally

, bicycles did not get much liking except for France and Great Britain.

However

, youths not only from France, but

also

from Great Britain gave only a 10% share towards the motorcycle.

Moreover

, 30% of the juvenility of the United States of America inclined towards motorcycles which served the highest rate of percentages in motorcycles amongst all countries.
In conclusion,

firstly

, we can say that cars were chosen by a large number of young folks.

Secondly

, bicycles contributed to a greater extent, but less than that of cars. Motorcycles were the least preferred medium of transportation by the youths in countries

such

as the USA, France, Great Britain, and Germany.

Fully explain your ideas

To get an excellent score in the IELTS Task 2 writing section, one of the easiest and most effective tips is structuring your writing in the most solid format. A great argument essay structure may be divided to four paragraphs, in which comprises of four sentences (excluding the conclusion paragraph, which comprises of three sentences).

For we to consider an essay structure a great one, it should be looking like this:

  • Paragraph 1 — Introduction
    • Sentence 1 — Background statement
    • Sentence 2 — Detailed background statement
    • Sentence 3 — Thesis
    • Sentence 4 — Outline sentence
  • Paragraph 2 — First supporting paragraph
    • Sentence 1 — Topic sentence
    • Sentence 2 — Example
    • Sentence 3 — Discussion
    • Sentence 4 — Conclusion
  • Paragraph 3 — Second supporting paragraph
    • Sentence 1 — Topic sentence
    • Sentence 2 — Example
    • Sentence 3 — Discussion
    • Sentence 4 — Conclusion
  • Paragraph 4 — Conclusion
    • Sentence 1 — Summary
    • Sentence 2 — Restatement of thesis
    • Sentence 3 — Prediction or recommendation

Our recommended essay structure above comprises of fifteen (15) sentences, which will make your essay approximately 250 to 275 words.

What to do next:

Look at other essays:

  • In recent years, the usage of cars has risen to a great extent. People use cars for their daily chores to travelling global. This excess application of cars has resulted in various adverse effects on the environment and individual’s health as well. This essay discusses the issues involved and their possible solutions.

  • Although it is sometimes thought that schools ought to teach children to compete, other people believe that the focus should be on cooperation. In my opinion, I consider that competition helps children learn the most important skills for their future life.

  • Currently, most governments spend a large part of their budget not only on public services, but also

  • While some people agree that producing court trial videos could disturb a percentage of people, others think in contradiction to it. I belive that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages because it could help to irradicate the misconception among common people on what is happening in a court room and also would help to show the transparency of the existing law system.

  • It is often argued that richer countries should provide welfare aid to the disadvantaged states during natural calamities. This essay agrees with the given statement because they have a plenty of resources and furthermore, they are more responsible for the changes in our surroundings.

The bar chart details the percentage of younger individuals travelling by three modes of transport in four different countries.
In general, cars are the most common option for all countries with the notable exception of France where the youth prefers to ride bicycles. While motorcycles are the least favoured in most countries, bicycles are in France.
The least used transport in each nation, which is the bicycle in the United States and the motorcycle in the other three countries, constituted similar figures at approximately 10%. However, driving with bikes in France and motorcycles in the US are significant choices of transport among younger people at 47% and 30%, respectively.
Cars remain the most popular as 60% of younger individuals in the UK and the US, and three in every five junior Italians opt for this. By contrast, the statistic for the car in France is slightly lower than that of bicycles, accounting for 40%.

A lot of this writing is not good English. The paragraphs are too short and choppy.

Test 1 FAMILY LIFE

You are going

then be ready to read it aloud. Remember that you will not have more than 2
minutes for reading aloud.

A British family has recently celebrated
the birth of their 18th child. It was a girl and her brothers and sisters have
welcomed their new sister. Her eldest brother is 26 and the parents already
have two grandchildren. The family announced the birth of the child on their
family website. They described the girl as “beautiful”. The family owns a
bakery and hopes the children will take over the family business. It looks as
if the era when the average British family would have only two or three
children is over. In Britain there are more families with four children than
anywhere else in Europe. Social scientists say that this is the result of
immigration into the country of families from Asia and Africa.

Everybody knows that our
appearance matters in what people think about us. Appearance is important not
only in a romantic relationship but also in politics. Appearance is not all
about beauty. The moment we see a person our mind starts evaluating their
personality according to their looks. What especially matters is the persons
face. This means that the impression somebody’s face makes on others can cost
the person his or her political career. When we vote for a candidate we think
that we are weighing his or her personal qualities. In fact, we are examining
their face. Research has shown that if a candidate’s appearance displays
competence, power and leadership, but not beauty or good looks, it can cause a
political victory or defeat. These findings are really important.

aloud. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, and then be ready to

aloud.

There are some very rare
occupations that may seem strange to somebody while in reality they are
interesting and even tasty. One such profession is a chocolate engineer. When
you hear the word “engineer” what comes up in your mind is perhaps heavy
machinery. A chocolate engineer does not have anything to do with either
machinery or the heavy equipment industry. Chocolate engineers design
chocolates. This profession is chosen by those who love designing things, have
a good imagination and a good sense of taste. The job of a chocolate engineer
is to create an assortment of delicious chocolate recipes. They taste their
products first. Another tasty occupation is a tea taster. Such specialists are
very important in the tea industry because tea must be examined for quality.

You are going

then be ready to read it aloud. Remember that you will not have more than 2
minutes for reading aloud.

Small children can understand
money. They get the idea that in order to buy something you have to pay for it.
Also, they know that in order to have money you have to earn it. Of course,
kids can’t earn their own money yet and that is why parents start giving pocket
money to their children at a certain age. Apart from fun, pocket money can be a
great tool for teaching children the art of budgeting, saving money and setting
goals. Besides, children can be taught how to donate small sums to charity. In
other words, pocket money can be used to teach small children decision-making
but children should not be paid for obeying their parents or for helping them
about the house.

You are going
to read the text aloud. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, and
then be ready to read it aloud. Remember that you will not have more than 2
minutes for reading aloud.

Mobile phones have become very
popular and texting is taking the lead. In many situations sending text
messages called SMS via the telephone is more preferable than emailing
somebody. Unlike emails, SMS texts are delivered alerting the telephone  owner
to the arrival of a new message. Not many of us check their email on a regular
basis while SMS texts have a sense of urgency and we must answer them at once.
Besides, texting is used for personal contacts while emails are often the
channel of business communication. A great advantage of SMS texts is that they
can be sent from any location thanks to the mobile device in your pocket. You
do not have to sit in front of a computer or carry a heavy laptop with you.

One of the oldest schools in
the world is a school in China. It was organized in the year 143 BC and it was
the first Chinese public school. Soon after that the building of the school was
destroyed in a fire but the school was rebuilt a couple of years later. This
was not the end for the tests of life for this school. The school was destroyed
by wars many times and only ruins remained but each time it was rebuilt again
and again. It survived hurricanes and earthquakes, blizzards and storms. In the
twentieth century it was called a model for secondary schools nationwide. For
many Chinese students it is a great honour to study at that school. Would you

People who travel through the
thick Brazilian jungle may arrive at a shocking place — a small American-style
town with streets, houses, a police station and even a golf course. The
difference is that here in the middle of the rainforest there are no people.
Only monkeys jumping on the rooftops. The town was built in the ’20s

and its
inhabitants abandoned it in the 1940s. The famous car maker Henry Ford bought
this land and wanted to build a factory there to produce rubber for his cars.
The workers were moved there from Michigan. The rules of life in the town were
very strict and the workers did not like it. Besides, the rubber production was
very slow and the project failed.

Test 10 FAMOUS PEOPLE

You are going
to read the text aloud. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, and
then be ready to read it aloud. Remember that you will not have more than 2
minutes for reading aloud.

If you ask an adult about the
most famous clown in the world, everyone will immediately remember their
childhood and a circus arena with a comedian on it who can be both funny and
sad. If you make a list of names then, perhaps, in the USA the entertainer
called Bozo will be at the top of the list. One should know that more than one
clown performed under that name. Many actors used to wear the same popular mask
for their performance. There are popular clown names in different countries and
the children admire their bright caps and baggy trousers, sense of humour,
funny jokes, spectacular tricks and friendly personality. Nobody can imagine
the circus without a clown making us laugh.

Test 11 TRAVELLING

You are going
to read the text aloud. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, and
then be ready to read it aloud. Remember that you will not have more than 2
minutes for reading aloud.

In the past, travelling was a
very risky adventure. There were no roads. The transport was very primitive and
slow. Many people travelled on foot and faced all sorts of dangers from wild
beasts, bad weather and robbers. Only the bravest people dared to set out on a
long journey. They preferred to travel in groups. Later travellers learned how
to train four-footed animals like the horse or the camel and travelling became
a little more comfortable. These days people travel in comfort and nearly every
country in the world has a network of railways and air connections. If your
business is very urgent you can travel by air and arrive at your destination in
no time.

Test 12 TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS

You are going

It is true that many teenagers
are carried away by taking selfies, listening to music, messaging or playing
games. However, there are talented young people who create something useful and
make life better for everyone. Thanks to the invention of a school student it
is no longer necessary to wait for hours to charge one’s cell phone. This
device was considered the best at an international fair of young scientists.
You will agree with this decision of the selection board if you know that with this
gadget a telephone can be charged in 20 to 30 seconds. It contains a lot of
energy in a very small space. Besides, it can be recharged 10,000 cycles

Test 13 GLOBAL PROBLEMS

Over the last 50 years the
human population has increased nearly three times and as a result we have been
using a lot more water than before. Besides, industrial waste has polluted much
of the fresh water resources. Agriculture demands its share of water as well.
This means that the water supply is decreasing. Less fresh water on the planet
means not only thirst but also hunger. The reason is that human beings depend
upon fish and animals for food. If fish and wildlife become extinct, we may
face extinction ourselves. A debate is now going on about what causes the
shortage of water. Global warming is factor number one. People from different
cultures have to work together or face mutual destruction.

The mass media has changed over
the last decades. The internet has become available and today it brings us the
information of our choice at a great speed. The internet is now a platform for
news, music, films, talk shows, sports events, advertising, trading, playing
games and even doing business. The internet has made the rhythm of our life
much faster than before. We now spend much less time sitting down and give more
energy to switching over, telephoning, messaging, emailing, contacting,
booking, registering, checking in and out. Thanks to the new mass media we keep
up to date with news of all kind twenty-four hours a day. When the long-awaited

Robots start to play an active
role in the medical check-ups of patients. They can even do it at a distance if
a patient is very far away from the hospital. Robotic technology is very
important in telemedicine, but these days robots go one step further. They can
now patrol hospital corridors and call on the rooms to check on patients’
health. After the examination of the patient, the robot can put all the results
on record for the doctor to see and make further instructions to the medical
staff. Medical robots look like a mobile cart with a video screen and medical
monitoring equipment. The cart “knows” which way to go and which patients to
monitor at a given time. This device frees the doctors’ time.

Более того, во введении ставится задача: make an opening statement on the subject of the project.

Например, автор в заключении пишет: “I think reading is very important for young people ” – принимается по РКЗ и является ошибкой в организации текста.
Другой автор пишет: “ Reading is very important for young people ” – не принимается по РКЗ и является ошибкой в организации текста. Если же автор пишет: “I think reading is very important for young people because it develops their imagination, teaches them life lessons and sometimes gives strength to keep going when they want to give up.”

Например, ‘ In my oppinion ’, ‘ in counclusion ’, ‘ In the other hand ’ следует отнести к орфографическим, грамматическим (ошибка в предлоге) ошибкам или это незнание средств связи. ‘ In my oppinion ’, ‘ in counclusion ’ – это орфографические ошибки, в то время как ‘ In the one hand ’ – это ошибка в средствах связи.

• повторы одних и тех же слов, отсутствие синонимов;
• отсутствие антонимов;
• некорректное употребление слова;

• повторы одних и тех же конструкций;
• использование только простых коротких предложений;
• отсутствие распространённых предложений;

Undoubtedly, music plays an important role in our life. So, I have decided to do a project on what music genres are now popular (страна?) and found the results of an opinion poll to illustrate some of the ideas. Below I will give my comments on those results.

2) If we look at the table, we can see that the vast majority of teenagers use the fridge while the dishwasher is the least utilized appliance. —
2) Looking at the figures in the table, it is obvious that the use of a washing machine is almost as popular as the use of a fridge. Another striking feature is that a dishwasher is far less likely to be put to use compared to all the other appliances. +

According to the data, people choose megacities due to a few reasons such as better job opportunities, cultural life and better education. The least significant reason is meeting new people. —
The data obviously indicate that more than 90% of people consider job opportunities as a key factor, whereas only 51% choose better education. The fact might mean that people are more concerned about their career.

2) According to the table, the majority of the respondents are fond of Christmas. It gives them positive emotions instead of usual routine things. Secondly, it is Mother’s day that is also popular with citizens in Zetland, whereas Halloween appears to be the least popular.
3) However, the traditional holidays in Zetland vary greatly. For instance, only 19% of those consider Halloween to be a significant holiday. By contrast, Christmas is most popular with 93%, followed by New Year at 55%. The percentage of people who like St Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day is lower, making up 22% and 46% respectively.

2. According to the presented diagram which is based on the results of the opinion polls the majority of adolescents use social networks to listen to music while only few of them 4% use the social nets to write a blog: 52 % per cent against 4% per cent. For whatever reason writing a blog is the last category on young people’s the list.
3. Analyzing the other poll options it becomes obvious that social networks are also very popular for chatting with friends with 23 per cent of respondents in favour of this pastime. However, both searching for information and watching films are surprisingly lacking popularity among teens with only 11 and 10 per cent respectively.

The table clearly illustrates that most people nowadays listen to rock, folk, rap and pop music.
These statistics reveal a significant problem – the table completely lacks genres of classical music, which, as is known, has a momentous impact on the psychological, emotional and even intellectual development of the personality. One of the proper solutions to that problem is more funding for music schools and more music lessons at school.

The analysis of project data gives us a perspective that certain problems may arise. It is obvious that the vast majority of people are trying to move to big cities because of aforementioned reasons. That is why the problem of ecology may arise as there are a lot of cars, factories and plants. As a solution, factories and plants should be taken under full control and cars should be replaced with electric ones.

Although teenagers in Zetland seem to be interested in reading, globally, young people are reading fewer books than before. The problem is that today’s teenagers easily get discouraged by long and challenging texts. As a result, they feel frustrated and lose motivation to read, which affects the development of their comprehension skills and academic performance. The best solution to this problem is to let teenagers choose their reading for themselves and encourage them to read more regularly.
