Create a list of words in the large area on the left. The list on the right has words for which we already have images. You can select words from that list by clicking them, and they’ll appear on your word list on the left.

You can also type words into the list on the left. If we don’t have an image for your word, the worksheet will have the text of the word instead.

If there’s a word that you want to use and for which we don’t have an image, enter it into the type-in at the bottom and we’ll put it on our list of words/images to add.

When you’re done, press the CREATE button to see a preview of your worksheet. If something went wrong, the generator will tell you and you should fix your input.

If you’re not happy with the generated puzzle, press the SCRAMBLE button and you may get a different result. You may be able to press SCRAMBLE repeatedly until you get a layout that you like.

What makes this word search different from others?

— Thanks for asking! This template doesn’t just have students look at a word and try to find it. Instead, you can use images and students have to think about how the word is spelled. They can write it below the image and then try to find it in the puzzle to verify they were correct. It makes the word search a ‘work’ sheet and not a simple time-filler.

— With the text only version, you can have different text than the puzzle. So, you can enter a question as your hint and it will work just like a crossword puzzle. Students will have to read the question, think about the answer and find it. Again, by doing this, you are making this activity a ‘work’ sheet, not just a printable game.

— You can enter the word as scrambled text for students to unscramble and then find.

It may be a good idea to go over each of the images with the students one time if they are not familiar with the content from Fun Fonix.

There is a print menu if you are on a PC, but if you are using a mobile device the menu may not appear. You will need to print the word search just like you would print any page off the Internet.

You can use text for your puzzle hint: find the same word, unscramble the word and find it, read a clue for the puzzle word, or use your own ideas. It’s up to you.
