Как сообщают пользователи Twitter, в магазинах приложений уже начали появляться многочисленные клоны игры, причём некоторые разработчики не стесняясь хвастаются тем, что выпустили одноимённую игру, поскольку создатель не зарегистрировал на неё права.

Другие пользователи заметили, что появилась масса приложений, прямо не клонирующих название, но использующих слово Wordle для повышения результатов в поисковой выдаче.

Концепция самой игры не нова, но в Apple решили бороться с приложениями из App Store, некоторые из которых не просто используют само слово Wordle, но и требуют с пользователей iPhone оплаты в размере $30 ежегодно. Сейчас из магазина удаляется весь софт, выпущенный до появления веб-версии Wordle и использующий это слово.

Простой поиск в маркетплейсе Google показывает, что в нём всё ещё имеется немало копий одноимённой игры. По некоторым данным, в Microsoft Store клоны отсутствуют, но некоторые связывают это с отсутствием интереса разработчиков к магазину из-за малой пользовательской базы.
