what is the good word?
One of my American friend usally asks me , What is the good word? . I actually don’t know what exactly it means, but i assume that he is just asking me to say something positive. Am i correct ? Please someone tell me what that means.

«What’s the good word?» is a colloquial greeting. It means, more or less, «Hello, how are you? What good news do you have to share?»

I think it’s a WWII-era expression, and there were stock (sometimes humorous) answers people tended to use. I believe the most common one was «buy bonds!»
In general, though, it invites the same kind of answer as «what’s happening» did in the 70s, «wassup» means nowadays…urrr, or used to mean nowadays, in case it’s been superceded by something else.
«What’s the good word» is sometimes facetiously replied to with a little adage.
«What’s the good word?»
«He who hesitates is lost.»

What’s the good word? Yup my grandfather would take me and my brothers to the local bar to meet his friends and their most common greeting was, «What’s the good word?» Simply asking what is new and good in their life, instead of the typical «what’s new» which typically leads to whining lol!

Правила
Три команды по два игрока в каждой соревновались в угадывании ключевого слова со списком связанных ключей. Игра началась с вводной подсказки. Например, набор может начинаться со слов «Это может быть друг человека или враг». Подсказки будут прочитаны, пока таймер опустится. Подсказки для этого набора образцов могут быть: ДИКИЙ, КРАСНЫЙ, ВСПЫШКА, ОРУЖИЕ, МУРАВЬИ, СТОРОНА, ГРУЗОВИК, ГИДРАНТ и, наконец, БОЙЦ (будет раскрыто максимум десять подсказок). Хорошее слово, конечно, ОГОНЬ. Когда группа звонила, чтобы ответить, они записывали свой ответ. Если они были правы, они получали одно очко за каждую подсказку. Если они были неверны, команда набирала 11 очков. Если две или более команд звонили по одной и той же подсказке, ведущий затем упоминал порядок, о котором команды сигнализировали; первая команда, если она верна, получит одно очко за каждую обнаруженную улику; вторая команда, если права, получит то же число плюс одно очко, а если третья команда позвонит и окажется права, они наберут то же число плюс два очка. Если бы позвонили только две команды и обе были правы, третьей команде пришлось бы ждать, пока будут обнаружены еще две улики, прежде чем они смогут позвонить (они могли бы ответить устно в этот момент). Тот, кто набирал наименьшее количество очков, когда время истекало, выигрывал игру и играл в бонусную игру, похожую на обычную.
