When I want to learn an English word, what are the good phrases to use?

1) What is the English for «X»?
2) What is English for «X»?
3) What is an English word for «X»?
4)What is the English word for «X»?
5) What do you call «X» in English?

What is the English word for «X»?
How do you say «X» in English?

I think are the most common ways to ask that.

The rest of your versions are wrong:
    1) What is the English for «X»? :cross:
    2) What is English for «X»? :cross:
    3) What is an English word for «X»? :cross:
4)What is the English word for «X»? :tick:
    5) What do you call «X» in English? :cross: (You could use this form if you’re trying to describe something you’re talking about or if you’re pointing at the object). Example: What do you call the piece of clothing you put on when it’s cold? / What do you call this part of the car? *if you’re pointing at something*

There’s nothing wrong with (1) and (5) — if X in 5 is an object. You can also ask ‘What is «X» in English?’

    What about 3 and 4?

You need the definite article because you are asking for a specific word. If you are sure there are several possibilities, Tell me an English word for «X».

OK. I see. What is behind the «the» in 1? What does it stand for? Can you explain the function of it?

What is the English for «X»?

This sentence is a shortening of:
What is the English word for «X»?
«The» is the determiner for the countable noun which is understood to be there.
I prefer the full sentence to the shortened one.

I would say: «How do you say «X» in English?»

Yes, unless you mean that it happened in the past. Then you need past tense.

In the UK at least they’re called «Rubbish chutes» or sometimes «Rubble chutes», eg

    http://www.kingfisherdirect.co.uk/building-and-construction/rubbish-rubble-chutes

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/112612153350?chn=ps&dispItem=1&adgroupid=46846106558&rlsatarget=pla-351087431970&abcId=1128966&adtype=pla&merchantid=113708795&poi=&googleloc=9041108&device=c&campaignid=857332737&crdt=0

With reference to «Escape chute» and «pipe slide», as mentioned in other answers: I think the key difference between those and a rubble chute is that a rubble chute is not designed for humans to slide down, and in fact may be very dangerous, perhaps fatal, for them to do so (I certainly would not want to jump down the one in the above picture, for example, which would deposit you at very high speed into who-knows-what at the bottom).

I think this is what the OP is asking about, given the description of it being at the top of some building construction, but I haven’t seen the film in question.

That looks like an Escape Chute to me:

An escape chute is a special kind of emergency exit, used where conventional fire escape stairways are impractical. The chute is a fabric (or occasionally metal) tube installed near a special exit on an upper floor or roof of a building, or a tall structure. During use, the chute is deployed, and may be secured at the bottom by a fire fighting crew some distance out from the building. Once the tube is ready, escapees enter the tube and slide down to a lower level or the ground level.
    from wikipedia

It may also be referred to as an «evacuation chute».

When used by a human being for amusement, that’s a pipe slide.

There is also a «rolling pipe slide» which has a slightly different mechanism. (see photo below)
