Продолжаем тему словообразования. Рассмотрим еще несколько очень распространенных суффиксов, которые создают абстрактные существительные.

Суффиксы “-ION /–TION /–ATION /-CION /-SION /-XION” = продуктивные, происхождением с латыни. Образуются от глаголов и обозначают действие, состояние или результат. Если вы видите слово с окончанием ”-ION”, то можно сразу же “вычислить” глагол, или наоборот, по знакомому глаголу определить значение созданного существительного. Несколько примеров:

to exhibit = выставлять, экспонировать  — exhibition = выставка, показ.

to connect = соединять(ся), связывать(ся)  — connection = связь, соединение.

to consider = рассматривать, считать — consideration = рассмотрение, обсуждение.

to educate = воспитывать, давать образование – education = воспитание, образование.

to dictate = диктовать  — dictation = диктант.

to converse = беседовать – conversation = разговор, беседа.

to express = выражать – expression = выражение.

to expand = расширяться, увеличиваться -expansion = экспансия, расширение.

to attract = притягивать, привлекать – attraction = притяжение, тяготение.

to reflect = отражать – reflection = отражение.

From Middle English -ioun, from Old French -ion, from Latin -iō (genitive -iōnis), appended to a perfect passive participle to form a noun of action.

Pronunciation[edit]

Itself pronounced IPA(key): /ən/, and changes the preceding consonant to /ʃ/ usually or /t͡ʃ/ or /ʒ/ in some cases.
