Simulating Reality
Do the names Sim City, The Sims, MS Flight Simulator mean anything to you? Well, they are all popular video games that simulate reality. In Sim City, for example, players have to build 1) a city that looks and functions much like a real one, with houses, shops and factories.

For those whose hearts belong forever in the Shire, there’s place they can go to. Called Hobbiton, it’s a movie set experience that’s nestled in the heart of a small town in New Zealand. Lush pastures are punctuated with 44 tiny Hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Pub, Mill, double arched bridge and the famous Party Tree built directly into the sides of rolling hills. The daily tours allow visitors to enter the small lairs and pretend they’re one of the mythical humanoids.
The first human carrying flight technology was the hot air balloon. While unmanned balloons have been around in some form for thousands of years, the first flight with people on board was in 1782.
The large balloon on top is called an «envelope». It holds hot air created by a heat source known as a burner. The burner creates an open flame by burning a mix of propane and air. Hot air balloons are capable of floating because the hot air inside the envelope has a lower density than the colder air outside. The top of the balloon usually has a vent which allows the pilot to control the speed of ascent or descent. Passengers typically stand in a basket beneath the envelope.
While most envelopes have a standard balloon shape, others are designed to look like animals, cartoon characters and other fun objects.
Stress is the feeling of being under emotional pressure and is the body’s way of attempting to deal with a tough situation. It can be caused by anything from a real physical threat such as bullying to a simple fear of making a presentation in front of the class and can affect how you think, feel, behave and how your body functions. When the body feels stressed, it produces hormones to make you more alert and capable of handling the situation. These hormones speed up the metabolism by increasing breathing and heart rate and raising blood pressure.
A reasonable amount of stress is good for the body. It keeps you on your toes and improves your performance. However, frequent stress causes the nervous system to remain on alert and to produce excessive amounts of stress hormones. This can have an adverse effect on your performance, leave you feeling tired and weakened and eventually cause health problems such as acne, high blood pressure, depression or other diseases. Obviously, managing stress should be on everyone’s mind.

Japan is an island nation in East Asia, located in the North Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Asian continent. Japan comprises the four main islands in addition to numerous smaller islands. Tokyo is the country’s capital and largest city.
Mountains dominate Japan’s landscape, covering 75 to 80 percent of the country. Historically, the mountains were barriers to transportation, limiting the economic development of isolated areas. However, with the development of tunnels, bridges, and air transportation in the modern era, the mountains are no longer an obstacle. The Japanese have long celebrated the beauty of their mountains in art and literature, and today many mountain areas are preserved in national parks.
Most of Japan’s people live on plains and lowlands found mainly along the lower courses of the country’s major rivers, on the lowest slopes of mountain ranges, and along the sea coast. This concentration of people makes Japan one of the world’s most crowded countries.

Hello, Mary! I hope you received the photos I sent you. I’m sure they will illustrate perfectly the project we are working on — “Noble professions” — because in the first picture there is a young woman who is a teacher, while the second picture shows a woman who is a doctor, a pediatrician, to be exact.
The teacher is at the lesson. She is pointing to some lines in her pupil’s exercise-book. The doctor is in her room at a hospital examining a young patient’s lungs with a stethoscope. The professions of a teacher and that of a doctor are both noble. Though both jobs are aimed at helping people, there is an obvious difference between them. While the teacher develops her students’ minds and broadens their horizons, the doctor helps her patients to stay healthy and keep fit.
I’m sure one of the advantages of a teacher’s job is that it motivates a person to develop themselves as a personality. However, there is a disadvantage — the necessity to check a great number of students’ works – that is really time consuming and monotonous. The main attractive feature of a doctor’s job is that doctors deal with patients and when patients get over their illnesses, a doctor feels satisfaction. There is a disadvantage of making a mistake when making a diagnosis.
I believe, the photos I have found illustrate the project perfectly as in both of them we see real professionals who are satisfied with their work.
In my case, I wouldn’t like to choose one of these professions as my future career as I am not cut out for the jobs. I don’t have enough patience to deal with children and sick people.

Smartphones have become an integral part of the modern life. People use them for different purposes: sending and receiving email, making phone calls, surfing the Internet, etc. I have done a project on the use of smartphones and now I am going to comment on the data and give my personal opinion on the subject.
According to the research, sending and receiving electronic letters has a strong lead in using smartphones. Seventy-nine per cent of people consider these devices the best means to be in correspondence with their friends and family. At the same time, making phone calls is ranked number two in the purposes smartphones are used for. Specifically, people speak on the phone in seventy-eight per cent of the cases.
The next top positions are held by surfing the Internet and playing games while differing from each other by ten per cent sharp. In fifty-eight cases people connect to the World Wide Web with their smartphones, and in forty-eight cases they take their above-mentioned devices to start a game.
Considering the frequency of using smartphones, sense of sight may take a turn for the worse. To reduce the damage it is highly recommended to buy models with high resolution screen and to make special exercises for the eyes.
In conclusion, I would like to stress the fact that a smartphone is indispensable for everyone because of its functional variety.
Writing an e-mail:
В 2021 году формат личного письма на ОГЭ/ЕГЭ по английскому языку изменился. В разделе 4 «Задание по письменной речи» экзаменационной работы в задании 35 необходимо написать личное (электронное) письмо в ответ на электронное письмо друга по переписке.
Количество слов 100-120 (минимальное — 90 слов, максимальное — 132 слова).
При определении соответствия объёма представленной работы требованиям считаются все слова, с первого слова по последнее, включая вспомогательные глаголы, предлоги, артикли, частицы. В электронном письме обращение и подпись также подлежат подсчёту.
При этом:
- стяжённые (краткие) формы (например, I’ve, it’s, doesn’t, wasn’t) считаются как одно слово;
- числительные, выраженные цифрами (например, 5, 29, 2010, 123 204), считаются как одно слово;
- числительные, выраженные словами (например, twenty-one), считаются как одно слово;
- сложные слова (например, pop-singer, English-speaking, thirty-two) считаются как одно слово;
- сокращения (например, UK, e-mail, TV) считаются как одно слово.
План письма в ОГЭ по английскому языку
- обращение (слева, на отдельной строке), например, Dear Jim/Alice, Hi, Jim/Alice,
После обращения нужно обязательно поставить запятую; - благодарность за полученное письмо и ссылка на предыдущие контакты (начало письма) например, «Thank you for your recent letter (e-mail). I am always glad to hear from you.»;
- ответы на три вопроса друга по переписке (основная часть письма). Для того чтобы письмо было логичным, можно использовать фразы: «You asked me about … Well, I can say that …» или «As you are interested in … I’d like to tell you that …» и т. п.;
Помните:
а) сколько вопросов, столько ответов. Например, друг спросил: «Where do you prefer watching films-at the cinema or at home and why?». Значит, нужно не просто написать «I prefer watching films at the cinema », но и аргументировать: «because …».
б) соблюдайте грамматическую структуру вопросов и ответов. Если друг спрашивает «What would you make film about if you had a chance?», надо, чтобы в ответе была конструкция «If I had a chance, I would make a film about…».;
в) используйте в письме сокращения (I’m, can’t, I’d like), неформальные слова-связки (well, also, by the way, anyway, so, actually).
- вежливое завершение письма, например, «Well, I’d better go now as I have to do my homework.», «Actually, I’ve got to go now. It’s time for my favourite TV show.»
- упоминание о дальнейших контактах, например, «Write back soon»; «Hope to hear from you soon»; «Can’t wait to hear from you » и т.д.;
- завершающая фраза, например, «Best wishes»; «All the best»; «Love»; «Yours» (на отдельной строке). После неё всегда ставится запятая;
- подпись автора (только имя без фамилии и точки, на отдельной строке).
В новом формате письма адрес указывать не нужно.

- Организация текста (2 балла)

Эссе должно строго соответствовать плану:
вступление — перефразируйте выбранное высказывание;
ваше мнение по теме и 2-3 аргумента в его защиту;
противоположное мнение и 1-2 аргумента в его защиту;
объяснение, почему вы не согласны с противоположным мнением;
заключение, в котором вы перефразируете свою позицию из пункта 2.
Каждая часть текста должна начинаться с нового абзаца, в итоге в сочинении должно быть 5 абзацев.
Проблемой при написании сочинения может стать не только плохое знание иностранного языка, но и наоборот — слишком хорошее. Выпускник может написать сочинение в более свободной форме и отойти от шаблона, комиссия же такой порыв не оценит. Поэтому необходимо писать сочинение строго по плану и в соответствии с критериями.
Рассмотрим, какие ошибки допускали выпускники прошлых лет и как их избежать.
Объём
Текст ответа должен содержать не менее 200 и не более 250 слов, допускается отклонение в 10%. По правилам, если объём сочинения менее 180 слов, за всю работу ставится 0, если больше 275 — проверяют часть сочинения до 250-го слова.
Как избежать ошибок:
Пишите эссе дома на нелинованном листе бумаги. После 10-20 сочинений вы поймёте, какую часть листа занимает нужный объём текста. Это поможет сориентироваться на экзамене.
Правильно считайте слова. За одно слово считают:
краткие формы: can’t, didn’t, isn’t, I’m;
предлоги, артикли, частицы;
числительные, выраженные цифрами: 25, 2006, 1000000;
числительные с процентами 25%;
сложные слова: well‑being, good‑looking, twenty‑five;
сокращения: UN, e‑mail.
Пишите по теме
Если проверяющий посчитает, что сочинение не соответствует выбранной теме, он сразу поставит 0 баллов. Поэтому чем проще – тем лучше. Ничего не выдумывайте, не пускайтесь в пространные размышления. Приводите прямые мнения и аргументы чётко по теме.
Эксперты ФИПИ приводят такой пример из вариантов прошлых лет. Было дано высказывание: “One should read about historical sites before sightseeing — Следует читать об исторических местах перед их посещением”.
Выпускники совершали следующие ошибки в сочинениях:
Не знали значение слов: принимали слово sites за веб‑сайты.
Были невнимательны: вместо sites видели cities и писали о городах.
Упускали смысл высказывания: забывали про слово read, то есть игнорировали чтение о достопримечательностях, и писали только про их посещение.
Ещё одна тема из ЕГЭ 2018 года вызвала трудности: “An early choice of a career path is the key to success — Ранний выбор карьеры — ключ к успеху”.
Многие выпускники не вчитывались в высказывание и строили сочинение вокруг словосочетаний “early choice” и “career path”. В результате писали о своём выборе профессии и о том, когда стоит её выбирать. Смысл же высказывания заключался в том, что ранний выбор профессии обеспечивает дальнейший успех в жизни. Соответственно аргументы «за» должны были быть о том, почему ранний выбор профессии способствует успеху, а «против» — почему он может привести к неудаче.
Как избежать ошибок:
Несколько раз перечитайте оба высказывания. Выберите то, в котором вам понятны все слова и значение предложения в целом.
Перед тем как писать сочинение, ответьте на вопросы: в чём смысл высказывания? С чем вы должны согласиться или не согласиться?
Визуализируйте ответ с помощью майнд‑карты. Обозначьте тему, от неё спустите 2 стрелки — одну с вашим мнением, вторую — с противоположным. От своего мнения спустите 2-3 стрелки и в нескольких словах обозначьте аргументы в его защиту, от противоположного мнения спустите 1-2 стрелки и под ними кратко запишите аргументы в его поддержку.
Перефразируйте тему во вступлении
Во вступлении к заданию №40 выпускники чаще всего совершали следующие ошибки:
Дословно повторяли тему из задания. Например, к высказыванию “Friendship is the greatest gift of life” писали выступление, которое полностью дублирует фразу: “Some people believe that friendship is the greatest gift of life. Others don’t think so”.
Высказывали своё мнение по теме. Например, к теме “Science is the first thing to be financed in the modern world” писали такое вступление: “Modern science helps human progress, that is why it should be financed before other spheres”.
Не обозначали дискуссионный характер темы.
Использовали риторические вопросы.
Как избежать ошибок:
Во вступлении не должно быть вашего мнения. Первый абзац — максимально нейтральный.
Тема должна быть перефразирована, то есть выражена синонимами и близкими по смыслу фразами. Начать можно с помощью фраз‑клише:
Nowadays people are getting more and more concerned about… — В настоящее время люди все больше и больше обеспокоены насчёт …
It is generally accepted that… — Общепринято, что…
A common opinion is that… — Согласно общему мнению…
Для обозначения дискуссионности темы можно использовать фразы‑клише:
There are two points of view on… — Существует несколько точек зрения на….
Some people are convinced that…and others believe that… — Некоторые убеждены что …., другие верят, что…
Не используйте риторические вопросы. Например: Who is right? Which is true?
Аргументы должны соответствовать мнению
В одном из сочинений за мнением: “I think that it is better to read some historical information before visiting historic places” шли такие аргументы: “Firstly, you can find a lot of information in the Internet. Secondly, it may help you in your future life”. Они не соотносятся с высказыванием, так как прямо не отвечают на вопрос: почему всё-таки стоит читать информацию перед посещением исторических мест?
Как избежать ошибок:
Сформулируйте своё мнение по теме высказывания, чётко определитесь: вы за или против.
Для выражения своего мнения используйте фразы‑клише:
My personal view is that… — Моё мнение таково, что…
In my opinion/judgment/view… — По‑моему мнению/суждению/На мой взгляд…
I completely agree/disagree with this statement… — Я совершенно согласна/не согласна с этим утверждением…
I don’t support the idea of… — Я не подерживаю мнение о том, что…
Объясните, почему вы правы в 2-3 аргументах, которые следуют из вашего мнения.
Для перечисления аргументов используйте связки:
Firstly/ first and foremost/ first of all…
Another (positive/ negative) aspect of …
Finally/ Lastly
Представьте, как вам могут возразить в ответ на ваше мнение. Сформулируйте полностью противоположное мнение.
Начните выражать чужое мнение с фраз‑клише:
However… — Хотя…;
On the other hand — С другой стороны…
There is another side to the question of… – Существует и другая сторона вопроса…
Придумайте аргументы в защиту мнения оппонента.
Опровергните контраргументы
В четвёртом абзаце необходимо объяснить, почему вы не согласны с мнением оппонента. Сделать это необходимо, опровергнув контраргументы из третьего абзаца.
Например, во втором абзаце вы поддерживаете мнение «One should read historical sites before sightseeing” и в качестве противоположного в третьем абзаце приводите «I think that it is better to visit historical places than to read information» с контраргументом «The guide will tell you everything during the excursion». В четвёртом абзаце вы должны опровергнуть контраргумент противоположной стороны из предыдущего абзаца, а не придумывать ещё один в доказательство своей правоты.
В примере вам нужно ответить на предложение: «The guide will tell you everything during the excursion». Например, подойдёт ответ: «If you read about sights in advance you will save money because excursion may be expensive».
Как избежать ошибок:
Ответьте только на контраргументы из третьего абзаца. Если вы привели два контраргумента, необходимо опровергнуть оба.
Используйте фразы‑клише:
I strongly disagee with…
I am afraid I cannot agree with the opinion that…
Despite my respect for the opinion that…, I cannot share it because…
Подтвердите своё мнение в заключении
В заключении выпускники чаще всего совершали следующие ошибки:
Отход от темы. Под конец сочинения забывали про тему высказывания и в заключении писали про что‑то совершенно другое. Например, ученик закончил сочинение по теме “One should read about historical sites before sightseeing” следующими словами: “To sum up, I would like to say that sightseeing is wonderful. And we should cherish the memories about those nice places we have visited”. Заключение не соответствует основной теме, так как в нём говорится о посещении достопримечательностей, хотя рассуждать нужно было о том, стоит или нет читать о них.
Не обозначали своё мнение. В заключении по предыдущей теме ученик оставляет проблему неразрешённой: “In conclusion, I want to say, that it is a debatable issue. Everybody must decide themselves if they need to find some historical information before sightseeing”.
Как избежать ошибок:
Держите тему сочинения постоянно перед глазами.
Перефразируйте ваше мнение, о котором вы писали во втором абзаце.
Используйте фразы‑клише для выражения мнения в заключении:
On this basis, I can conclude that… — Исходя из этого, я могу сделать вывод, что…
In conclusion, I would like to stress that… — В заключении я хотел бы подчеркнуть, что…
All in all, I believe that… — В конце концов, я верю, что…
To sum up… — Подводя итоги…
Выучите значения вводных слов и союзов
Для построения грамотного и связного высказывания необходимо правильно использовать вводные слова и союзы. Чаще всего выпускники путают значения этих частей речи и бессмысленно добавляют их в текст в хаотичном порядке.
Как избежать ошибок:
Выучите назубок значения вводных слов и союзов, чтобы не путать их значения. Запомните значения самых распространённых из них:
in addition — к тому же,
moreover — более того,
furthermore — кроме того,
however — тем не менее,
thereby — в связи с этим,
therefore — следовательно,
though — хоть, однако,
although — хотя.
Не используйте более одного вводного слова за раз. Не пытайтесь написать сразу всё, что знаете, например, как здесь: “To my mind, personally, I think that it is better to visit historical places at first. To begin with, firstly, it will be a surprise and you will better remember it”. Вы же не пишете в сочинении по русскому языку так: «Лично, по моему мнению, лучше сначала посетить историческое место».
Соблюдайте нейтральный стиль
Текст сочинения должен быть выдержан в нейтральном стиле. То есть нельзя использовать:
риторические вопросы;
разговорную лексику:

Getting ready for the RNE (Speaking)
Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it.
Cobras in snake-charming acts are responding to the sight of the flute, not its sound. Snakes don’t really hear music though they are certainly not deaf. They have no external ears or eardrums, but can sense vibrations transmitted up from the ground into their jaw and the belly muscles. They also seem to be able to detect airborne sounds via an inner ear. It used to be thought that snakes could not hear at all because they don’t respond to loud noises but research at Princeton has shown that they have acute hearing.
The key discovery was how the snake’s inner ear functions. It appears that their hearing is tuned to the frequency range of noises and vibrations made by the movement of larger animals, so music would be meaningless to them. Charmed cobras stand upright if threatened and sway in response to the movement of the instrument. If they strike at the flute, they hurt themselves, so they don’t do it again.

Some paintings found in different caves around the world are recognized as the work of Stone Age artists. But what was the purpose of the paintings? Why were they hidden in a dark room where there is no evidence that cave people lived?
No one really knows, but there is one theory that makes great sense. It is called the theory of Sympathetic Magic. According to this, the cave people believed that if they could make a likeness of an animal, they could put a spell over it. This spell would give the tribe power over the live animal.
Stone Age existence depended on killing animals – for food, clothing, and even weapons and tools. The animals were large and fierce; the cave people had only the most simple weapons. Hunters had to be brave and fearless. They needed more than a spear or club; they needed all the magic they could get. The magic could help the hunters catch the animals.

practice because it may act as a deterrent to
criminals. But do we really need CCTV cameras in
our schools?
Conclusion:
Generally speaking, I think that having CCTV cameras
in schools is a necessary evil because crimes are on
the increase even in our institutions of education.
Although I do feel that these cameras violate our
rights, if students are not doing anything wrong, they
really don’t have anything to fear, do they?

Example:
Many teenagers work and go to school at the same
time. Many of them are doing this for a variety of

To begin with, it is crucial for all young people to get the
best education possible. Having a job could have a
negative effect on a student’s studies. A job can take up
time that a student should be spending on homework. In
addition, a teen’s job may negatively affect their social
life.They are working when they could be taking part in
after-school activities or socialising.
On the other hand, there are those people that would
argue that this is the perfect time for teens to learn
responsibility. They feel that it is good for teenagers to
balance all aspects of life.
Ultimately, I believe teenagers can learn responsibility in
other ways. A formal education that can lead to a serious
career later in life is much more important. I do not support
the idea of teens working while they attend school.

I am going to talk about leisure activities for young
people.
Leisure activities are the things we do in our free time
such as sports or hobbies.They are important because
they help to keep us mentally and physically healthy.
When we do something we enjoy in our free time, it
helps us to forget our problems. Whether it’s playing
tennis, listening to music or playing chess, the activity
takes our minds off our work or any other problems we
have.
My friends and I all enjoy playing hockey and we practice
after school 3 days a week. Sometimes we enter interschool
competitions and visit other schools at the
weekends for these. Playing hockey is a fabulous way to
stay healthy and it makes me feel very happy too. I have
been playing hockey since I was ten years old.
As well as playing hockey, I also enjoy reading and
watching films. These are relaxing for me. When I was
younger I didn’t like reading very much. I started reading
the Harry Potter books because one of my friends gave
me the book as a present. Ever since then, I have read
the whole series. I have also seen the films, but I like to
have read the book first. Now, I read all kinds of books,
but when I really want to lose myself, I read Agatha
Christie. I have to keep turning the page to find out who
committed the crime and I forget about everything else.
Films are the same and the nice thing about films is that
you can watch them with your friends and be sociable.
Finding something you enjoy doing in your free time is
important and it helps if your school and your parents
encourage you to try different activities to help you
choose. Some leisure activities can be expensive, such as
horse riding — especially if you have your own horse. I’m
glad I have found activities that I both enjoy and can
afford.

First of all, people’s shopping habits are changing. My
parents didn’t use to have as much choice as we have

spend whole days in shopping malls looking in shops and
comparing prices and products. Shopping has become a
leisure activity for some people.
Online shopping is the biggest change to shopping
habits. Now people can order their groceries from the

these days, on websites such as eBay.
Sunday trading means that people can go shopping seven
days a week and many shops are open in the evenings or
even 24 hours a day.This is convenient for workers and

economy when people continue to spend their money

Television advertising is a very powerful force that
persuades people to buy goods. Products are shown to
improve our lives and we are tempted to try them.
When I was young I often wanted toys that I saw on TV
advertisements. Magazines also contain a lot of
attractive advertisements, making products seem
glamorous and desirable. I have been persuaded to try
beauty products by such advertisements.
Some people do not see the connection between
shopping and the environment.However, shopping might
be bad for the environment. One reason is that so many
goods are pre-packaged in plastic wrapping.This ends up
on our streets and in rubbish dumps and it is not
biodegradable, it takes hundreds of years to break
down. Fortunately, many people are learning how to be
an environmentally friendly shoppers. They are not
taking plastic carrier bags in supermarkets and buying
products that are not pre-packaged avoids unnecessary
waste.We can all help by doing the same.

It seems fair to say that the main reason that most
people live in the city is because of the educational and
career opportunities that are available there.There isn’t
as much unemployment in cities and this attracts people
to live there.Also, there are lots of other facilities in the
city that are not as easy to find in the countryside such
as a wider choice of entertainment as well as better
healthcare and other services.
Of course, there are some drawbacks to living in the
city.The main problems are overcrowding and pollution.
In the city everyone lives very close together so you
don’t have as much space to live in as people in the
countryside do.Also, because of the heavy traffic the air
is polluted and cities are very noisy too. Another
disadvantage is the lack of greenery. All this means that
people living in the city could feel very stressed at times.
I think people who live in the countryside are probably
happier than people who live in cities because of the
beautiful surroundings. You can see the sky, hear the
birds singing in the trees and breathe fresh air. So in
many ways the quality of life in the countryside is much
higher than it is in the city. It is quiet and safe and it is a
nice place for children to grow up.
On the other hand though, life in the countryside does
have some difficulties. Even if you have a good job
people in the countryside aren’t as well paid as those in
the city. Also, you probably have to travel quite a long
way if you need to see a doctor or even do simple
things like shopping. People living in the countryside
could also feel quite isolated and lonely.There aren’t as
many places to go out and you have to have a car as the
public transport system isn’t very good.
Even though cities are noisy and polluted I still like living
in one because I’m very energetic and sociable. I
wouldn’t want a quiet life, really. Perhaps when I get
older and have a family of my own, I might prefer to live
somewhere peaceful, but at the moment I like the hustle
and bustle of city life.

The most important work zoos can do is to help
endangered species. All good zoos should establish
breeding programmes to help increase the numbers of
endangered species and prevent them from becoming
extinct. Some of the Chinese zoos have been very good
at this and have saved the Panda from extinction. But
there are many more animals that will disappear forever
if something isn’t done soon.
Another important aspect of zoos is the work they can
do to teach young people about wildlife and nature. I
think it is very important for young people to learn
about animals from a very young age. I’m pretty sure
that seeing wildlife in a zoo will inspire an interest in
nature and the environment in young people and
encourage them to want to protect endangered species
around the world.
Many people feel that keeping animals in zoos is cruel
because it is not their natural habitat and wild animals
should be able to roam free. It is probably true that
some zoos do not have suitable living spaces for the
animals and they live in cramped cages. But these days I
think most zoos are very well designed and the animals
live in good conditions. However, I think that any zoos
that are cruel to the animals should be closed down.
As far as I’m concerned zoos are fantastic places for
people to visit because they are both enjoyable and
educational. I find wildlife fascinating and going to the
zoo is the only way I would ever get to see some of the
animals. I also firmly believe that the work they do in
helping to protect animals is very important. Without
the research that zoos do we would not know as much
about wildlife and this would make it more difficult to
protect it. I think zoos are wonderful places.

Because of this, it has been suggested that
all children should learn English from a
young age. There are, however, both pros
and cons to this complicated issue.
There are many reasons why learning
English at a young age is a good idea. To
begin with, children learn quicker and
better than adults. There minds are still
developing and are receptive to new
concepts. In addition, having another
language when they leave school will be an
incredible advantage in the job market.
On the other hand, there are those that say
that learning another language as a child is
useless. Firstly, many children will not need

Секрет успешного написания хорошего доклада – работа по плану. Report имеет свою стандартную структуру, которую нужно взять за основу. Итак, в любом докладе должно быть 5 элементов:
- Introduction (вступление). В этой секции нужно кратко описать предмет доклада, привести причины, почему вы занимаетесь именно этим вопросом, и сделать небольшой обзор других исследований по теме. Вступление – это презентация цели и предмета. Скажите читателю, что ему ожидать от работы. Здесь должно быть короткое, но меткое summary (резюме, краткое изложение основных идей), которое подогреет интерес читателя и заставит его сконцентрироваться на основном. В начале доклада можно воспользоваться такими фразами:

В полноценном докладе также должен быть список использованной литературы. Могут присутствовать и другие части, это зависит от предмета и цели доклада. Соответственно, если мы имеем дело с кратким докладом, например, на международном экзамене, необходимо продемонстрировать не столько знание выбранной темы, сколько в целом понимание того, что такое доклад и из каких частей он состоит. Так, описанные выше части доклада на экзамене немного упрощаются, и выглядят так:
- Introduction – вступление.
- Reasons why you are writing (write about facts) – причины, побудившие вас писать об этом (сообщите факты).

A lot of people, especially of older age, claim that life in their youth was much quieter and they were more sure of tomorrow than young people nowadays. But there are many things I do appreciate today. Among them is a great variety of opportunities we have in life.
Firstly, the life has cardinally changed and at present young people, using Internet and traveling abroad, are more and more informed about the world and other cultures. Secondly, there is a wide choice of activities in which we can take part now, starting from leisure clubs up to political and volunteer programmes. Another thing to mention is a different range of job vacancies offered to young people to earn their own money. This gives us more independence from our family but, on the other hand, it teaches us to be responsible for decisions we make.
However, our society now faces some serious problems such as high crime rate, drug, game and smoking addictions, AIDS, poor environment, etc. They say the society was kinder, the tempo of life was slower. They were not afraid of unemployment. These are the reasons for the parents’ concern about our future. And though I share their worries, I would rather risk than have uneventful, monotonous, predictable life.
To sum up, I believe, modern life gives more opportunities and challenges to the youth. There is more freedom, life is more exciting. That is why I hold an opinion that the way of life of today is more satisfying.
