Walking in his word

Deut. 28:9: “The Lord will establish you as a people holy to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in his ways.”

Learning how to walk a new way is always hard. We strive in our lives to make headway on the paths life’s journey takes us. As Christians we leave church on Sunday, knowing we are forgiven and trained in new ways of how to walk in this fallen society. We always have the best intentions to walk as the forgiven people of God yet seem to stumble. Christ always finds us, picks us up, and carries us when we stray from Godly paths. Every day is a new day that God has set before us, establishes for us to follow His lead.

At St. John Lutheran Church in Athens we are finishing up our building project. The final phase includes installing new flooring. Before the floors were laid, our congregation took two weeks to pray and write our favorite Bibles verses on the concrete floor. Those verses were written in permanent marker. When you walk into our church, you are literally walking in the Word of Christ. Though the new wood flooring covers the concrete and the verses, the Word of God is still there. We may not always see God working behind the scenes, but he is with us step by step along the way. The dedication service is scheduled for March 8th at 10:30am. We are blessed to have the community involved! We would love to see you in worship at St. John Lutheran Church in Athens, Texas.

Blessings! Pastor Davidson

“Fr. Joe Creedon’s reflections entitled, Walking in the Light of His Word is a wonderful, refreshing prayer guide to help readers on the road of life. Joe brings a wealth of pastoral experience to his writings and this shines through in his reflections. He invites us to be pilgrim companions on the road and challenges us to take responsibility for being that Light for one another.” —Susan Donohue, FCJ, Spiritual Director

“As a friend and longtime admirer of this manifest master of words, I strongly recommend Fr. Creedon’s recent reflections on the Living Word. He brings both personal insight and pastoral sensitivity to his musings.” —Rev. Jack Lavin, Pastor Emeritus, St. Joseph Parish, Newport, RI

“In these reflections, Fr. Creedon shares his gift as an exceptional homilist now through the written word. By praying with these reflections, the Scripture passages are opened to us and we find that, like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, our ‘hearts are burning within us’ as God speaks to us through Fr. Creedon’s writings.” —Sarah Thomas Tracy, Spiritual Director

“Fr. Joe Creedon, a gifted wordsmith, encourages us to live the Gospel message. We discover our ‘everyday God’ within these pages as we journey daily toward His light.” —Nancy Drennan, Pastoral Assistant and Director of Liturgy Emerita, Christ the King Parish, Kingston, RI

“As Thomas Merton wrote: ‘For just as the wind carries thousands of winged seeds so each moment brings with it germs of spiritual vitality.’ As pastor and friend, Father Joe has long been the gardener, the seed planter who has inspired and vitalized my spirituality. And, this continues with his Walking in the Light of His Word.” —Phil Tracy, Retired Hospital Administrator

Joe Creedon is a priest of the Diocese of Providence where he has served as a high school religion teacher, a college campus minister and as parish priest at Christ the King parish, which is a vibrant stewardship parish. He is the author of After the Ashes and six other daily Lenten reflection booklets, Crossing the Desert and six other daily Advent reflection booklets, and the book, Stewardship: A Life-Giving Spirituality. He has presented parish missions and stewardship workshops for parishes and clergy throughout the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Best of all he is a gifted storyteller.
