Walk in the light of the word

Is. 55:10 “For as
the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But
water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the
sower And bread to the eater,

Is. 55:11 So shall
My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But
it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which
I sent it.”

One of the
things that every believer in Christ must do is to make sure that they never
lose sight of how important the Word of God is in our daily life. It can
become, just like anything else in our life, one of the things that we just
take for granted and before long we begin to lose sight of who we are in Christ
and how we are to walk in this earth.

God’s Word
in the above verses is clearly seen as that which comes from God to accomplish
a purpose. As rain comes down and even snow from heaven to water the earth so
that it can bring forth a harvest, so is God’s Word. The Word of God will not
return to Him void, but will accomplish what pleases the Father. That Word is
Jesus Christ.

John 1:1 In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:2 He was in
the beginning with God.

John 1:3 All things
were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

John 1:4 In Him was
life, and the life was the light of men.

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the
glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Word is
Jesus Christ, and that Word was sent to earth by the Father to accomplish
exactly what the Father sent Him to do. He did not return to God void, He
returned victorious over sin and satan, and He became the firstborn from the
dead, not the only born from the dead. Jesus came to water the earth with His
shed blood, wiping away our sin, and fulfilling all that the Father had asked
of Him. He provided a way for us to the Father, and redeemed us from the curse
of the law. God’s Word and He are one. If you want to get to know the Father,
get to know His Word. If you want to find out what the Father has desired for
your life, get to know the Word of God.

To walk in the
light of the Word means that we as believers are to take the Word of God for
what it says, not question what we know is clear in the Bible, and believe in
that Word. If we do believe in God’s Word we believe in God. Therefore whatever
God’s Word says we not only believe it, we act upon it. To make light of the
Word is to make light of God. One of the greatest apostles to ever walk on the
earth was a man of God named Smith Wigglesworth. It is undeniable that he
clearly knew God and walked in the light of His Word. Here are some quotes by Smith
Wigglesworth:

“I can’t understand God by feelings. I can’t
understand the Lord Jesus Christ by feelings. I can only understand God the
Father and Jesus Christ by what the Word says about them. God is everything the
Word says He is. We need to get acquainted with Him through the Word.”

«If it is in the Bible, it is so. It’s not
even to be prayed about. It’s to be received and acted upon. Inactivity is a robber,
which steals blessings. Increase comes by action, by using what we have and
know. Your life must be one of going on from faith to faith.»

So if we want to get to
know God, we need to become very acquainted with God’s Word. As brother Kenneth
Hagin used to say, “The written Word reveals to us the living Word.” We must
learn to make the Bible a very important part of our relationship with God. We
don’t need to make it a duty, nor something we just do because we are a
Christian, but we need to make it a time of fellowship, study, and a part of
our daily journey in discovering who God created us to be.

It’s no wonder that over
time the enemy has crept in to some churches where people are no longer
encouraged to bring their Bibles. Instead the scriptures are just put up on a
screen. I don’t think there is anything wrong necessarily with putting verses
on a screen, but if we are in love with the God of the Word, we are in love
with the Word. When we don’t take time to turn to the verses of scripture in
church ourselves then the Bible begins to become less and less involved in a
believers daily life.

Smith Wigglesworth said
that he would go nowhere without his testament, referring to a small New
Testament that he carried with him everywhere. I think he knew something we
need to know. He didn’t worship His Bible, but He worshipped the God of the
Bible because again God and His Word are one. He certainly lived a life that
only many dream about today. Smith walked in the light of God’s Word because
God’s Word was a priority to Smith Wigglesworth.

So it is obvious that if
we are to walk in the light of the Word we must come to love the Word of God
for they are one. As we are told in Romans 12:2 we will not see our lives
transformed from conformity to the world unless we renew our minds to the Word
of God. This is clearly seen as the only way one’s life will be transformed. We
must renew our minds to walk in the light of the Word of God.

Mark 4:14 The sower
sows the word.

Mark 4:15 And these
are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes
immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.

Mark 4:16 These
likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word,
immediately receive it with gladness;

Mark 4:17 and they
have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when
tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they
stumble.

Mark 4:18 Now these
are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word,

Mark 4:19 and the
cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other
things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Mark 4:20 But these
are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear
fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

To walk in the light of
God’s Word we must not only obviously live in the Word of God, we must also
make sure that we are good ground for the Word of God to produce in us this
transformation that God desires. When you look to your life and as a believer
you are not seeing change, or you are not seeing results as the scriptures
promise one thing is for sure, it is not God’s Word that is the problem. God
sent His Word and accomplished all that was needful for us to live victorious
as a child of God. But what many don’t take time to examine is the condition of
their heart which has everything to do with how well God’s Word will work in
your life.

Walking in the light of
the Word as we have said means to believe what it says. To do that you must
again be good ground, for God’s Word is considered a seed that will grow up and
produce what it says. If you want to walk in health you need to plant the
scriptures that reveal how we through Christ can live a healed life. If you
want to have a victorious marriage you must take the seed of God’s Word and get
it into good ground, your heart, so that it will transform you into a husband
or a wife, etc. So let’s look at these four heart conditions Jesus spoke of.

The first is wayside soil.
This refers to those whose hearts are hardened toward God. They come and hear
the Word but they continue to make excuses or interpret the scriptures to fit
their lifestyle for they don’t really want to change. They will not fully
surrender their heart unto God and therefore have a hardened heart that does
not want to surrender to God and His ways of doing things. Satan comes
immediately and steals the seed sown in those whose hearts are hardened and
have become wayside soil.

The second heart condition
is called stony ground. They actually get excited to hear God’s Word preached
but they have no root in themselves, and when persecution or tribulation comes
they stumble. These are not the ones who disagree with the Word of God, but
they go their way and do not take the time to apply what they have heard. There
is no diligence to study for themselves further and make application of the
truth. Therefore they try to live off of others faith, but because they have
not rooted themselves in the Word they don’t see it work for them.

The third heart condition
is called thorny ground. Jesus clearly says that these are the one’s who either
get caught up with the cares of this world, or the deceitfulness of riches, or
the desire for other things and the Word they try to apply to their life gets
choked out by these things and will therefore produce no fruit in their life.
The cares of this life results from worry and focusing on the world. Deceitfulness
of riches is when one thinks that money is the answer to our problems. The
desire for other things is getting focused on and caught up with other things
that take priority over God in your life.

The last heart spoken of
is good ground. To be good ground all you have to do is make sure you don’t
harden your heart against God, you don’t become lazy and not develop your own
walk with God, and you don’t allow cares, money, nor other things to become
more important to you. Those who are good ground will see a progression over
time of 30, 60, and then 100 fold return.

So if you are not seeing
God’s Word work for you then you are not walking in the light of God’s Word. To
do so you must fall in love more and more with the God of the Bible and the
Bible of God for they are one. You must also make sure that your heart is good
ground. If it is not then the Word will not produce for you. Unfortunately by
simple observation you can see that many Christians today are either stony or
thorny ground. Don’t get spiritually lazy and not develop your faith and your
walk with God, and don’t get caught up with worldly things. Make sure you keep
God as the priority of your life and you can walk in the light of His Word.

1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey. [Refrain]

3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey. [Refrain]

4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey. [Refrain]

Daniel B. Towner, composer of the tune, writes about the origins of this well-known gospel hymn:

Mr. Moody [Dwight L.] was conducting a series of meetings in Brockton, Massachusetts [presumably in 1886] and I had the pleasure of singing for him there. One night a young man rose in a testimony meeting and said, «I am not quite sure-but I am going to trust, and I am going to obey.» I just jotted that sentence down, and sent it with the little story to the Rev. John H. Sammis, a Presbyterian minister. He wrote the hymn, and the tune was born.
-Ira D. Sankey, The Story of the Gospel Hymns, 1906

John Henry Sammis (b. Brooklyn, NY, 1846; d. Los Angeles, CA, 1919) wrote the chorus lines first and then the five stanzas, after which Towner composed the tune. The hymn was published in Hymns Old and New (1887). Because of its use in the Dwight L. Moody and Ira D. Sankey crusades and its printing in Sankey hymnals, «When We Walk with the Lord» became widely known.

The refrain provides the text’s theme: trust and obey the Lord (Prov. 16:20). The three stanzas develop this theme: we show our trust by walking with God in accord with his Word and with total commitment to his will for our lives.

Sammis was a successful businessman in Logansport, Indiana, and active as a Christian layman. His volunteer work for the YMCA eventually led to a change of career. He studied at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, graduated from Lane Theological Seminary, and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in 1880. He served congregations in Glidden, Iowa; Indianapolis, Indiana; Grand Haven, Michigan; Red Wing, Minnesota; and Sullivan, Indiana. From 1909 until his death he was a teacher at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles.

Liturgical Use:
With Scripture reading before or after the sermon; on various occasions of worship as a hymn of encouragement, commitment and dedication, and testimony.

TRUST AND OBEY

One of the sturdiest of the some two thousand tunes Daniel Brink Towner (b. Rome,

This hymn paints a picture of communion with God in which fear and gloom have disappeared, and delight and joy saturate one’s existence. However, this attractive life is not free – the Christian must totally surrender control of his life to God, and commit to trusting obedience of God’s wishes, as the final stanza says – “what He says we will do, where He sends we will go.” Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30 ESV).

Text:

This hymn was inspired by a story from one of Dwight L. Moody’s evangelistic meetings, held in Brockton, Massachusetts, in the mid-1880’s, where Daniel B. Towner heard a young man say “I am not quite sure – but I am going to trust, and I am going to obey.” Towner wrote down that sentence, and sent it, with the story about the young man, to a Presbyterian minister named John H. Sammis, who wrote the refrain and then the stanzas of this hymn (Ira Sankey, My Life and the Story of the Gospel Hymn, 1907, p. 326). It was published, along with Towner’s tune, in Hymns Old and New in 1887.

This hymn is known either by the first line (“When we walk with the Lord”) or the phrase that ends every stanzas and begins and ends the refrain (“Trust and obey”). The first stanza speaks of the blessedness of following God. The second stanza (“Not a shadow”) assures us that God will remove all sorrow from our lives; this stanza is often omitted, as it is not a realistic picture of life this side of heaven. The third stanza (“Not a burden”) assures us that God will give us the strength to deal with the troubles that life brings, while the fourth (“But we never can prove”) warns us that total surrender is required in order to share God’s promised blessings. The final stanza (“Then in fellowship sweet”) paints a picture of blissful communion with God as we live out a life of trusting obedience.

Tune:

Daniel B. Towner wrote the tune to fit the text, with which it was published in 1887, and for which it is named – TRUST AND OBEY. There are a few places where this tune is traditionally altered in some churches. One is singing the pairs of eighth notes in dotted rhythm. Another is the insertion of an extra measure at the last note of the first long phrase (the word “way” in the first stanza). The last is the placement of a fermata on the second syllable of “Jesus” in the refrain. For effective congregational leadership, it is a good idea to be aware of these variances, as newer members of a congregation may be familiar with a different way of singing the tune. TRUST AND OBEY should be sung at a brisk tempo with an upbeat accompaniment.

When/Why/How:

This hymn may be used as a hymn of response to testimony, prayer, or preaching at any time of year. It can be paired with another hymn on the same theme, such as “’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus” or “Blessed Assurance.” It is also appropriate as a song of invitation prior to a testimony or sermon, especially as an instrumental setting. Possible instrumental ensembles include handbells, as in a creative arrangement of “Trust and Obey” featuring a variety of treatments for this classic tune, or a straightforward brass quartet arrangement of “Trust and Obey” featuring imitation and dynamic contrast.

You are here: Home » Prophecies » “Walk in the light of My Word; let it be the lamp unto your feet, and you shall not go astray.”

Between April 16 and April 17, 2020, I believe the Lord highlighted Ezekiel 14 to me, and over three days, including today, April 18, 2020, I wrote down, some in my diary, and some on my laptop, whatever I felt the Spirit of the Lord was impressing upon my heart.

I humbly urge you, brethren, take a moment to pray and ask the Lord to sanctify you, before you proceed to read, lest the words of the Most High offend you and you trample His counsel underfoot. And remember me in your prayers that in the day when I stand before Him to give an account, He may not charge me as being cowardly and ashamed of His Word.

Son of man, write down what you hear. The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth (Prov. 15:3), and do you know, O son of man, what do the eyes of the Lord see?

I see wickedness, and wickedness of a most terrible kind. What kind of wickedness is this that has taken root in the earth and in the hearts of that which I’ve made with My own hands that they’ve stood up to counsel Me as if I needed their counsel (1 Cor. 2:16)?

Who or what do My created ones think they are that they should speak of their Creator and Maker as One without wisdom, skill, knowledge, or understanding (Isa. 40:13)?

I am the One who made all things (Col. 1:16). Will that which was made by My hands now tell Me how to create? Will they counsel Me as if I am devoid of knowledge?

I am the great Creator and the first Inventor; I am the original Scientist (Gen. 1:1, John 1:1). Will My creation now use My own Word against Me? Will they now glory in their science and math and despise My Word because of their so-called knowledge and then speak of Me as if I have no scientific or mathematical knowledge (1 Cor. 1:25)?

I performed the first marriage (Gen. 2:22–24). Will fallen man now counsel Me on the institution of marriage? Will he educate Me on what makes a marriage? Will you, O son of man, rewrite the laws that I established from the beginning (Ps. 119:89, 160)? Will you call that which is good, evil, and evil, good?

I am the One who is True Wisdom and who is True Knowledge (Prov. 9:10). By My own hands I divided the primeval waters; by My own hands I established the firmament, that great firmament that displays My handiwork and that divides the waters above it from the waters under it (Gen. 1:6–7, Ps. 19:1). And will you now, O mortal man, rise up and boast in My presence of your so-called science and technology and mock My Word on that account?

Who is it who gave you your science and technology? Who gave you the wisdom, knowledge, and skill that you possess, that you have now corrupted by your many iniquities and that which you now use to mock Me and My Word?

Will you turn all your skill and knowledge now against Me? Has it ever been heard that a piece of clay instructed the potter, “Let me teach you the secrets of your trade; let me counsel you on how to expertly move your hands to shape and mold”? Behold, mortal man, the lifeless and inanimate clay has more wisdom than you!

What great or mighty work have you done that you act like you can boast in My presence? Bring it out! Display it! Hold it aloft that all may see! Have you commanded the dawn since you first saw the light of day (Job 38:12)? Did you appoint the heavenly luminaries their courses (Job 38:31–32, Ps. 104:19)? Was it you who created the great light that rules by day (Gen. 1:16) and that runs across from one end of the heavens to the other in a circuit so that none on the earth escape its heat? (Ps. 19:5–6) Is there anything like the moon in the night sky (Ps. 8:3–4)? Tell Me, if you know. Surely your works outclass these! Or is it that mortal man is mere hot air and nothing more (Ps. 144:4, James 4:14)? Surely your knowledge exceeds the heights of the clouds, and your skills touch the stars, for you mock Me, and you mock My Word, and you speak as though you are the very personification of wisdom and the fullness of understanding while your Maker and His servants who speak for Him evidently know nothing!

Out of My great love and compassion for you, I sent My Son, the One you know as Jesus, to die for you so that you would believe in Him and not perish in your sins (John 3:16). Yet if I’d let you perish in your sins, it would’ve been justice unto you! For this is what you claim today: “Forget Jesus! The stars died so you could be here today!”

Is there a more perverse generation that has arisen, with all its deeds perverse, who think it no small thing to mock their Creator and His Word, who despise the truth of My Word (John 17:17) and the light within it (Ps. 119:105), and who are content to walk in the darkness of their lies and deceptions, the vain imaginations of their hearts, while glorying in the delusions of their science falsely so called (Rom. 1:21–22)?!

You wretched fools! Full of insolence and arrogance, blind and deaf you have chosen to become, and now will you counsel the rest of My creation to become just as blind and deaf as you?! Woe! Woe! Woe! Woe be unto you, you worthless preacher and teacher of this modern-day religion called “science”! Your punishment shall be all the worse.

Will the one I knit together in his mother’s womb (Ps. 139:13) now tell Me that I have no knowledge of genetics? And will you now counsel the world as an expert in modern-day gene technology? Will you alter that which I’ve made? Do you not know that as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways and thoughts higher than yours (Isa. 55:9)?

Will the one I fearfully and wonderfully made in My own image (Gen. 1:27, Ps. 139:14) remake himself in the image of the beasts of the field, the wild beasts of the earth, the creatures of the sea, and the birds of the air and then rise up and stand before Me to proudly proclaim, “Behold the works of my hands, the sharpness of my mind, and the wisdom of my years”?!

Will you, mortal man, no more than the dust of the earth (Ps. 103:14), counsel the Most High, who wields all wisdom and knowledge and the power to heal every sickness and disease (Isa. 53:4–5, Rev. 22:2), in the ways of healing? Have you no fear, calling the ways of My Word pseudoscience?!

Mortal man, I tell you, you know not what you speak of. Your great learning of modern-day science and technology is leading you astray, and the end of all such things is death (Prov. 14:12). Repent while there is still time, for you must not test the patience of the Lord your God (Matt. 4:7). And I am your God, though you do not know Me or acknowledge Me. But you shall, for a day is coming, when all things, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, shall bow their knees and confess with their mouths that Yahushua ha Mashiyach is King of kings and Lord of lords (Phil. 2:9–11, Rom. 14:11).

But these are they who do not know Me, who do not acknowledge Me. Why have those who profess to be Mine and who identify themselves as called by My name, why have these shunned the counsel of My Word and jumped in bed with the priests and priestesses of this modern-day religion of “science”?

My people, where is your wisdom? Prophets, preachers, and teachers of My Word, where is yours? Is it the way of your so-called scientists that you wish to go? Will you reject My Word to follow in the ways of science falsely so called? Will you use the pulpits, the ministries, and the platforms I’ve given you to establish My Word and My counsel to now establish the counsel of fallen man? Will you use the statutes and commandments I have given you to make My Word of no effect? Will you for the sake of your tax breaks, your offerings, your large gatherings, and your titles and positions twist My Word to say what it does not say? You delight in your degrees and qualifications; when will you delight in My Word? Your scientists tell you that you evolved from less-than-human entities, from monkeys! Have they now become your instructors? Is it their word that you have resolved to believe? And some of you do believe that I used the process of evolution to create you! But now a greater lie is preached to you, that aliens came and formed you! Tell Me, mortal man, which alien from which planet in which galaxy came here to create you? And was it an alien who died on a cross for you? Or have you fallen so far from the truth of My Word that you are willing to blaspheme Me and say that I am that friendly green alien?!

Fools! There are those full of the secret counsels of the evil one among you (Dan. 8:23, Rev. 2:24), and they present their counsel to you as their crowning glory, as the result of their many years of study. But they preach to you a lie, all lies. Yet you are willing to swallow their lies hook, line, and sinker! Many such lies you are willing to believe and do believe and do teach and preach, for your great learning of modern-day science and technology has deceived you and turned you away from the simple truth of My Word. Repent of the lies, My people, and take refuge in My Word.

Your wise men, educated experts, scientific leaders, and technological giants have perverted themselves, and now they seek to pervert you. Learning is good, so are wisdom and knowledge, but when perverted, they turn you away from Me, and all such corruption only ends in death.

Be forewarned, you who dwell on the earth! Refrain from exalting your great learning and scientific and technological knowledge above My Word in your hearts. For that which you exalt above Me and My Word is an idol (Ezek. 14:3), and if you approach Me with idols in your heart, you shall receive an answer according to your idols (Ezek. 14:4), and you shall become as your idols—blind, deaf, and without life (Ps. 115:4–8). If you have dethroned My Word from the prime position it was to occupy in your spirits and have instead erected idols in its place, then I, the Lord, who sit enthroned over the flood (Ps. 29:10), I who set a compass on the face of the deep (Prov. 8:27), I, the Lord, who set a boundary for the mighty waves of the sea and commanded that they should go no further (Job 38:8–11), I warn you. I warn you that if you refuse to walk in the light of My Word, especially after your eyes have been opened to the truth of it, and if you refuse to abide in the counsel and leading of My Holy Spirit, but instead rely on your own understanding and the understanding and wisdom of this world in which you live, you shall invite a flood of delusion into your life as My righteous judgment, and you shall be swept away in it (2 Thess. 2:10–12), and you shall not know until it has come and swept you away (Matt. 24:39) that you made your refuge a lie and a falsehood your foundation (Isa. 28:15, 18–19).

Therefore, fear God! And give Him glory! Be zealous now, and repent (Rev. 3:19)! Humble yourselves before Me, and I will forgive you.

Your enemy, the evil one, is a master of deception, and it is within his power to deceive the whole world (Rev. 12:9). Who will you turn to? Where is your light? Which is the way that you must walk? And what is the truth that you must believe? Is it not I, O My people? I am the True Light, and I am that Way, and I am that Truth (John 8:12, 14:6). I am the Good Shepherd (John 10:11), and behold, I shine in your midst that you may see that I am Light and in Me is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). Come to Me, and live, for I am Eternal Life (John 17:3).

My people, I urge you to walk in the light of My Word; let it be the lamp unto your feet, and you shall not go astray (Ps. 119:105, Prov. 3:6), but if you refuse to do so, relying instead on the idols of your own understanding, and take refuge in the preachings and teachings of your lying scientists and so-called wise men, behold the restrainer who now restrains shall do so no longer (2 Thess. 2:7), and that, very soon, and the flood of strong delusion that I have warned about in My Word shall come (2 Thess. 2:9–12), and you shall be swept away; both you who believe the lie and you who preach the lie, you shall bear your iniquity (Ezek. 14:9–10). I shall make no distinction among prophet, preacher, pastor, and teacher, or any other, for all liars shall have their part in the lake of fire (Rev. 21:8). You shall perish, because in the days when I patiently waited for you to repent, you hardened your heart against the light of My Word and refused to heed the words of My servants, whom I sent to you to turn you from the ways of death.

Sujit was working in Chennai in late 2015 when the Lord began to nudge him to draw closer to Him. That was the beginning of a major spiritual transformation in his life, and he has not looked back since. As someone who has experienced God’s undeserving love, grace, and mercy personally, Sujit would like people to know that the Lord has no pleasure in the death of the unrighteous, but would rather see them repent and live.
