I’m currently creating a document for a training packet. I already have the ApproveIt plug-in installed, to show up on the top of my Word document, but I find that if I were to e-mail this document to another person (that doesn’t have the plug-in)
they can not digitally sign it. Is there a way to embed an eSign button (similar to Lotus Forms) into a Word document. There is no option to add a signature block, for them to sign.

They would already have Lotus Forms and be able to click on the embedded block and sign. I just need some way to combine the two concepts together.

Please help.

Of course, I can’t be sure why it sounds wrong to you, but to me it sounds a bit funny because I’m expecting «it» to refer back to something mentioned previously, and the only thing in the previous sentence it seems it could refer to is «tomorrow». And asking someone to «approve tomorrow» is just silly — there will be a tomorrow whether they approve it or not.

A minimal fix would be either to drop the «it», as you suggest — which would make the sentence somewhat terse and elliptical, but which could work in a workplace e-mail — or to replace it with «this», which at least could validly refer to the entire request. But just to avoid ambiguity, I’d prefer to expand it all the way to «this request», as suggested by trpt4him.

Or, alternatively, the request could be rephrased e.g. as:

«I would like to take a day off tomorrow. Please approve it.»

where «it» can now refer to «a day off» (viewed as a set phrase), which can be legitimately approved.

(Ps. I make no comment on whether the brevity of the request is appropriate here, since that doesn’t seem to be what you’re asking about and since I’m not familiar with your local workplace communications style. In some places and contexts, your example request might be exactly as long as it needs to be; in others, you might have to expand it to five times its current length to make sure it sounds polite and respectful enough.)

The meaning of approve changes when you add the preposition of to make approve of. Approve’by itself means ‘sanction’ or ‘endorse’ as in these two examples. In the first, an accountant is speaking and in the second, a university admissions tutor.

I need to put approval workflow data in Word documents. I learned to put the version number by using the Label Quick Part in Word and an information management policy in the library to set the Label to the version number (_UIVersionString).

This works ok, but I need to show in the document also the approval date. I am using the Publishing Approval workflow in a subsite. I have seen that there is a Quick Part in Word named Publish Date but it looks that it is always empty.

How can I add the approval date to the document so it is automatically shown as with the version?

Answers

When you initially create the document, it’s an unknown entity to SharePoint, and as such none of its column values are available for selection within the QuickPart options.

Once the document has been saved within a Document library, you should see the Publish Date info available for usage within the document.

Are you using the full Approval workflow or just the require content approval on the library?

I would suggest the easiest answer would be to use a standard workflow on change to put the current date onto an Newly created approval date field when the document is approved. You can then use this field in word as a standard field.
