Word Gets Around is the debut studio album by Welsh rock band Stereophonics. It was released on 25 August 1997 through V2 Records and reached number six in the UK Albums Chart, making it one of three Stereophonics albums not to reach number one; the other two being 2009’s Keep Calm and Carry On, which reached number eleven, and 2013’s Graffiti on the Train, which went to number three. Much of the album is written about everyday life in Cwmaman, the band’s hometown. The deluxe and super-deluxe editions were released on 18 October 2010. The name of the album comes from lyrics in the album’s last song, «Billy Davey’s Daughter».

Re-release[edit]

On 24 August 2010, Stereophonics announced on their website that Word Gets Around, along with Performance and Cocktails, were to be re-released.[12] To accompany the re-releases, Stereophonics performed all the songs off both the albums at the Hammersmith Apollo on 17 and 18 October 2010.[12] They were released on 18 October 2010[13] and were made into two forms:

    Sound quality is acceptable, not spectacular. Rolled off top end so no sparkle without a treble boost. A nice clean pressing — Billy Daveys Daughter plays really nicely with no noise or inner groove distortion. Quality of the inner and gatefold are very nice.

    Is there a pressing issue with this original double album? I have bought 2 copies, and both have the same issue on «Not up to you», namely some interference noise that last for a few rotations??

    I don’t seem to be having the same issues as others. My pressing sounds good. Certainly better than a 128kbps MP3 as one user described! Although the bottom end could have a bit more punch, everything is very clear with decent separation. My copy is dead silent in the quieter passages, and fairly dynamic when it gets going.

    Although not the best pressing in the world, it’s very far from unlistenable. I’d recommend it — especially given that you can get a copy for < £15!

The debut album from Welsh band Stereophonics, Word Gets Around nabbed the Number Six spot in the UK Albums Chart in late 1997. It spawned the successful singles and live favourites “Local Boy in the Photograph”, “A Thousand Trees” and “Traffic”. The album is often regarded as the band’s best by critics and fans alike.

The lyrics focus mostly on frontman Kelly Jones’ experiences in his hometown of Aberdare, Wales.

In October 2010, the album was re-released with a deluxe version and a super deluxe version consisting of B-sides and rarities.
