Smallest Man In The World

(оригинал)

What do you say when you see him out on the street?
What’s he get paid?
Where does he find shoes for those feet?
Does he feel extra-special, like he’s blessed and he’s cursed?
When he says, «It’s no big deal», don’t it kinda sound rehearsed?
Well, I’ve heard he’s a charmer, but he runs hot and cold
Whatever he is, he’s the smallest man in the world
I saw him one time on Bourbon Street outside a bar
As he climbed from the back of a shiny black Lincoln Town Car
Where can he hang out when he wants to lay low?
And when he looks in the mirror, where does he go?
When he boxes his shadow, which one takes the fall?
Whatever he does, he’s the smallest man in the world
Where can he sit when he just has to have a good view?
When he’s called a liar, well how much can he really prove?
They say he’s been married, he put in his time
Lived in a tower and blew his own mind
Don’t he feel like a child when the waitress says, «Doll»?
(«What can I get you doll?»)
Whatever she says, he’s the smallest man in the world
Smallest man in the world
(Where you runnin’ off to there, little fella? Ah, look at him go)

Lincoln Town Car

Shortest Manin the World

If you want to know the record holder for the shortest man in the world, then you’re in the right place. The shortest man ever is Gul Mohammed of New Delhi, India, measuring 0.57 m (1 ft 10 2⁄5 in). He died on October 1, 1997, from respiratory complications and after a long struggle with asthma and bronchitis, acquired due to heavy smoking. According to The Guinness Book of World Records, was the shortest adult human being whose existence and height have been independently verified.

Khagendra Thapa Magar born in born October 14, 1992, measures 0.67 m (2 ft 2 1⁄2 in) and considered the shortest living adult. Formerly the shortest teenager in the world. He took the title of shortest man from Edward Nino Hernandez when he turned 18 on October 14, 2010. Magar is a primordial dwarf.

He Pingping was according to the Guinness World Records, the world’s shortest man who was able to walk (mobile). He measured 74 cm (2 ft 5 in) tall. He died March 21, 2010.

Unverified claims of the shortest person is made concerning June Rey Balawing, considered to be the unofficial smallest man, measuring 22 in (56 cm), not yet verified by Guinness World Records.

Did you know that dwarfism or growth hormone deficiency is short stature resulting from a particular medical condition. It is sometimes defined as an adult height of less than 4 feet 10 inches (147 cm), although this definition is problematic because short stature in itself is not a disorder. In the United States, Canada and New Zealand, many people with dwarfism prefer to be called little people.

Did you know:

Madge Bester born April 26, 1963 from South Africa is recognised as the shortest living woman, 2 ft 1.5 in (65 cm). Bester has osteogenesis imperfecta, which is characterized by brittle bones, and uses a wheelchair.

You must have heard of Kenadie Jourdin-Bromley, the tiny Thumbelina of the real world. She was born on February 13, 2003 in Ontario Canada. She was just 2 pounds when she was born and given only 24 hours to live by her doctors. However, she managed to survive and was soon diagnosed with dwarfism. Dwarfism is a medical condition that leads to short stature of the affected person.

A midget is an extremely short person. The term generally describes a person with dwarfism. The terms midget and dwarf are often used synonymously, because both terms mean someone who has been short in stature since birth, but they were not originally synonyms.

The word Midget was coined in 1865 to describe an extremely short person with body proportions similar to those of a normal-sized person’s. P. T. Barnum indirectly helped popularize midget when he began featuring General Tom Thumb in his circus. Dwarf originally denoted people with disproportionately short limbs.

As I noted this morning, it’s Global Cat Day, and here’s my contribution.

I’m not sure if this was verified (Guinness World Records) didn’t exist in that time, but in the late forties and mid-fifties, Henry Behrens (born about 1895) was touted as the world’s smallest man. A midget, he was 30 inches (0.81 meters) tall  and weighed 32 pounds (14.5 kg). Here’s a picture of him dancing with his black cat, and another with  his wife—and his black cat (can you spot it?):

Here’s a video of the man who called himself “Colonel Peewee”:

h/t: Laurie

In February last year, Mike Seccombe reported what at the time seemed incredible: Australia had a net-zero emissions target for 2050. This was in spite of the Morrison government. The story added up the commitments of every state and territory and found that Australia would reach the global target irrespective of Scott Morrison’s then refusal to endorse it.

“It’s meaningless, when every state and territory says it has a net-zero target, to have a federal government saying, ‘No, we don’t,’ ” the economist Richard Denniss noted in the piece. “If the states all meet their stated goals, then Australia meets it, and what Scott Morrison thinks about that is precisely irrelevant.”

This week it emerged that the federal government has been working to overturn the capacity of states to meet their targets. An email from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told the Victorian government it had 14 days to leave a global coalition of subnational governments focused on arresting climate change.

The ACT, Northern Territory, Queensland and South Australia were also told to leave the consortium because they “failed to properly classify” their involvement in a memorandum of understanding. New South Wales, which is a signatory, is attempting to clarify its position.

The extraordinary intervention was made under the Foreign Relations (State and Territory Arrangements) Act, which Morrison hastily passed last year. At the time it seemed designed to allow the federal government to tear up Victoria’s Belt and Road partnership with China. Its usage to limit action on climate change is staggering.

Lily D’Ambrosio, Victoria’s Energy, Environment and Climate Change minister, said the decision was egregious and that the government were vandals. “Rather than addressing the urgency of climate change, they are actually putting forward more barriers.” Queensland’s minister, Meaghan Scanlon, called it a silly game. “Clearly, the Morrison government aren’t content with their own failures on climate change; they’re now trying to stop the states from taking action.”

Analysis released in October showed state actions on climate would cut emissions by 35 per cent by 2030, even without further changes. Many have now committed to a 50 per cent reduction by 2030. Morrison has stubbornly refused to update his midterm target. His contribution has not risen above finding the rhyme between “meet” and “beat” and showing off that he learnt the word “canter”.

It is difficult to fathom Morrison’s desire to interrupt genuine action on climate change. He views climate change as an issue of identity and regards indifference as Australian. His potency is measured by the impotence of his response. Like all masculinity, the foolishness and fragility of this is in direct proportion to what he regards as its strength.

The states will still likely meet their targets. Morrison’s attempts to slow them will only go so far. Much greater forces are at work. The interference, though, says something very important about Morrison: nothing is too small for the smallest man in the room.
