Underrated Writer’s Drama
This is not quite the thriller it appears to be in plot summary. While there is some violence and more sex and romance, this is more about Timothy Hutton’s ethical choices as a writer. As such, it has some very good moments and fine acting by Hutton, Burke and Pantoliano. The pace is rather slow at first and you may find the ending disappointing, especially if you’re looking for shocking revelations. But it’s worth seeing.

The Last Word[1] (also titled Cosa Nostra: The Last Word)[2] is a 1995 American crime thriller drama film written and directed by Tony Spiridakis and starring Timothy Hutton, Joe Pantoliano, Michelle Burke, Chazz Palminteri and Tony Goldwyn. Avi Lerner served as an executive producer of the film.[1]

John Ferguson of Radio Times awarded the film two stars out of five.[2]
Alan Rich of Variety gave the film a negative review and wrote, «For all the surface glitz, there isn’t much in the prevailing deadpan performances — which include cameos by Shepherd and the ubiquitous Richard Dreyfuss — to make anyone care.»[1]

О фильме
Писатель и журналист Мартин (Хаттон) написал книгу «Сцены из повседневной жизни». В тексте были ссылки на слова мелкого гангстера, и того убили в день презентации. Он поссорился с женой Энджи. Его друг и агент Док должен мафии 100 тысяч долларов. Мафиози Рикки (Пантолиано) грозится убить. Чтобы выйти из положения, Док предлагает снять по книге фильм и знакомит Мартина с очаровательной стриптизеркой Сэрой, сумевший не только отвлечь его от депрессии, но и поехать с ним в Голливуд для работы над фильмом. Между ними возникает любовь, так как Мартин проникся историей жизни Сэры, пообещав, что ее рассказа не будет в фильме. Ложь, любовь, подлость, надежда, благородство и низость хитросплетений их повседневной жизни и становятся сюжетом фильма, расписанным сценаристом Тони Спиридакисом. Не для детей. (М. Иванов)
