About the Author

Spiros Zodhiates was born March 13, 1922 to Greek parents on the island of Cyprus. After completing his Greek education, he attended the American University in Cairo, Egypt, The National Bible Institute, and New York University. He earned his Doctor of Theology degree from Luther Rice Seminary. In addition, Dr. Zodhiates was the recipient of several honorary doctorates.
While serving in the British Army in Cairo, Egypt, Zodhiates received The Voice of the Gospel, a magazine published by The American Committee for the Evangelization of the Greeks. To pass the time, he decided to write an article for the magazine. He wrote it in English and, not thinking about it, wrote the accompanying letter in Greek. When they realized they had found someone who loved the Lord and knew both languages, they invited him to come to America in 1946.
In 1966, they elected Zodhiates as president of what is now called AMG International (Advancing the Ministries of the Gospel). Under his leadership, AMG grew from a small ministry focusing on the land of Greece to a worldwide evangelistic and relief ministry. AMG International provides a wide range of social services, including care for orphans and leprosy patients, and has an expanding evangelistic thrust of advertising the message of the gospel through paid newspaper and magazine gospel messages in many lands and languages. His mission was the regeneration of souls, but he did not ignore the physical needs of the people he met.
The author of over 200 books and booklets in English, as well as 82 in Greek, Zodhiates started a book house, AMG Publishers, which has since grown into a significant producer of Bibles and Christian books.
On October 10, 2009, Dr. Spiros Zodhiates was called home by his Heavenly Father. Throughout his six decades of leadership, Dr. Zodhiates demonstrated a profound commitment to the Word of God and a singular focus on accomplishing his calling faithfully. His style was marked by frugal stewardship, great enthusiasm, entrepreneurial courage and unexpected generosity.

Preface

We at AMG Publishers are doing our best to make every word of the New Testament understandable to the English reader by reference to the original manuscript. The Complete Word Study Dictionary: New Testament is a result of the desire to see this accomplished.

Our first effort was in providing the Hebrew Greek Key Study Bible, available in the King James Version or the New American Standard, thus making it possible for all to benefit by referring to the original Hebrew and Greek words. This Bible, however, contains only the explanations of certain key words.

The next step was to provide The Complete Word Study New Testament in the King James Version. This work gives every word a grammatical code which explains its structure as it is used in the Greek text. In addition, a number over each word identifies it by the numbering system of James Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible. This New Testament also contains a Greek concordance and has a section indicating all the Greek words which an English word represents in translation. Word studies expound upon key words, and footnotes explain key passages.

With that basic word and grammar identification, we are now proud to present the ultimate tool for in-depth Bible study. This lexicon of the Greek New Testament, created as a companion for The Complete Word Study New Testament, is a complete dictionary of every Greek New Testament word.

I have closely followed two dictionaries which are out of print for the basic contextual study of the words, namely The Greek and English Lexicon by John Parkhurst and A Greek and English Lexicon of the New Testament by Edward Robinson, along with its New and Improved Edition revised by Alexander Negris and John Duncan. I used these two basic works because I found them the most adequate in their presentation, although changes were made as deemed necessary. I felt, for example, that much additional information was needed in the discussion of the theology of some words, as well as the inclusion of derivatives, synonymns, and antonyms of words when such exist. I know of no other New Testament dictionary which contains these additions.
