from the word go

From the very beginning. Go here is the indication that it is time to begin a race. This seemingly modern colloquialism originated in nineteenth-century America. Davy Crockett used it in Narrative of the Life of Davy Crockett (1834): “I was plaguy well pleased with her from the word go.” A newer equivalent is from the get-go, which originated in black English in the 1960s and is on its way to clichédom.

He did sell that line pretty good
I 100% cleared Stadium and R2 was such a painful cheating piece of shit. The slow animations really drag on as your stunlocked by Mew as he wipes you 3 rounds before the finish

      • Anonymous

His over the top lines were the best.

      • Anonymous

Stadium R2 was brutal, it was the game that taught me to play Pokemon as a child, and they never did anything as brutal since.
It’s a shame bros, we’re in a much better position than we were 20+ years ago to raise strong mons easily but they have zero confidence in the playerbase now.

        • Anonymous

The game literally cheats, not illegal movesets (it does have that too) but it literally bends probability so a 95% chance to hit with a move is worthless for you but a 70% hit move for them is perfect accuracy. It’s also why paralysis is only useful for slowing them down in R2 since they will almost never be paralyzed but it’s DEVESTATING for you since you’re essentially fainted but have to wait 4 minutes for them to whittle you down

          >full rental team
          >use electrode’s thunder wave to paralysis’ mewtwo
          >spam it with thunder or just explode
          >remaining team use one hit kill like giga drill or fission to kill off mewtwo
and made strongest pokemon into my bitch with rental crappy pokemon.

Mewtwo is cheeseable but unlocking him is the real bitch

          >Train a team of 6 for the gym leader castle and the cup of level 100
          >beat everything super easily due to sterois
Nah, you simply can beat the game if you train your pokemon and pump them full of steroids. That’s why the rng is a bitch with rentals.

The Gym leaders werent typically the problem it was the cups were the bullshit really got ramped up. Though with your own team it is MUCH easier, bonus points if you also port from GSC so you can expand your movesets a bit with stuff like Punch Alakazam, it was real fun too using «illegal» low level fully evolved pokemon through ingame backtrades across both gens to crush Pika Cup and whatnot

Well yeah, you’re not intended to do that. You are supposed to bring your bros over from cart, rentals only exist so the game is playable without a cart + transfer pak + team of eligible mons.

Transferring my pokes over felt right. It was like doing an in-game version of a tournament that you’d only otherwise see in the anime.
Although playing around with the rentals could be fun if you enjoy the challenge. Gotta feel kinda bad for those poor kids who rented the game from blockbuster or something and were stuck with rental pokemon for the weekend. Lel pure suffering.

          • Anonymous

I never knew any better. I wasn’t allowed to own Pokemon, so only renting the game didn’t matter as I didn’t even know half of the weaknesses and how they worked.

That’s the point though, obviously if you put your own pokemon in you’re going to steamroll the cpu. Rentals are balanced to provide an actual challenge and put you on a level playing field with the opponents. What I’m trying to say is, if you imported your own pokemon, you didn’t beat the game.

You don’t get it, kid. There was more to Pokemon than just the games; the community, the spinoffs, the alternate media, the environment around the series. And I sure miss having a nice community to discuss things with that wasn’t utterly fractured or being torn apart by trolls, I miss having spinoffs that weren’t all relegated to mobile hell or just plain trash, I miss being able to look forward to new releases, I miss the atmosphere of optimism and excitement we used to have, I miss the hype seasons. The old games still exist, yes, but what existed around them then doesn’t exist anymore; especially true for the DS and Wii games which are lacking serious functionality without online anymore. But judging by your prior posts in this thread, you’ll just call me a genwunner or whatever the fuck.

            • Anonymous

Last gen I played was Gen 7. Last one I bought was SM, last one I pirated was USUM, dropped USUM halfway through for being too similar to SM without enough improvement. LGPE just as a concept alone killed my interest in future titles almost completely and SwSh did the rest, and it doesn’t look like things are getting much better to me.

              • Anonymous

Well then that’s it, you played the good games. We all knew every franchise has a tipping point. The good times never last.

The PokePark games were great too. I always imagined the future mainline games were going to be like them with the animations and lively Pokemon and attacks.

              • Anonymous

Those games were a bit disappointing in the sense that we finally had a real-time combat Pokemon game, but casualized for kids. Pokepark 2 did take off the training wheels a little, but it wasn’t enough.
Either way, I always thought a fusion of PMD and Pokepark could work well, with the story structure and dungeon crawling bits of PMD merged with the real-time combat aspect of Pokepark. Sort of like a Pokemon action RPG.

              • Anonymous

Yeah, I feel the same. I meant they were great in the sense of freedom they gave you. The animations were top notch too, with all the Pokemon playing and moving around.
Always thought this was the direction Pokemon were going to go when mainline games finally reached home consoles.

              • Anonymous

                >Always thought this was the direction Pokemon were going to go when mainline games finally reached home consoles.
That would’ve been unrealistic. There’s a reason Pokepark limits the amount of Pokemon you can play as and fight. Real-time combat where you can play as and fight any of the hundreds of Pokemon that exist? PvE and PvP included? No studio on the planet could pull such a thing off, it’d be a very expensive miracle to do that just with Gen 1 Pokemon, let alone the rest of them.

Why’d they stop making Stadium style Pokémon console games?

    • Anonymous

Ask HAL. They’re the ones who made them.

    • Anonymous

because all current Game Freak staff lack SOVL.

    • Anonymous

Because they eventually moved to 3D in the mainline games so they didn’t have the need of 3D battle simulators anymore. Also because GameFreak is cheap as fuck and didn’t like how HAL and Genius Sorority did a way better job than them at making good Pokemon games.

    • Anonymous

I assume it’s because the mainline series now uses 3d models so mabye they were like «well whats the point of doing stadium/colosseum/revolution style games anymore» EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE REALLY FUCKING COOL ANIMATIONS THAT THEY DON’T COME CLOSE TO IN QUALITY IN THE MAINLINE GAMES

    • Anonymous

Because Stadium games were good way to «demo» Pokemon games and had rent-ability. And of course, being 3D. But after XY, there wasn’t a need for them anymore.

      • Anonymous

A shame really. If only GF cared about they’re product. We could’ve had mainline games from SwSh on with the quality of the Coliseum games

        • Anonymous

Sometimes I don’t know if I should even blame GameFreak when the fanbase itself is filled with the biggest shiteaters of the entire videogame industry who allow this complete lack of quality control and rushed game developments. Arceus was a step in the right direction in terms of new gameplay and mechanics and with some more dev time and polish it would have been a really good Pokemon game, meanwhile SV looks like the same turd SwSh was.

          • Anonymous

            >and with some more dev time and polish it
Which GameFreak decided was not necessary.

      • Anonymous

I still cant fucking get over how terrible and lazy the models and presentation are in the 3D game freak games are when a bunch of DQ devs who had never even played Pokemon before made way fucking better shit like 15 years earlier with probably 1/20th the budget

    • Anonymous

GameFreak. Unless it’s a shitty mobile spin-off, they are the ones developing it.

      • Anonymous

What? Neither stadium game or revolution was them. They don’t do spin-offs at all other than Quest.

    • Anonymous

It is genuinely because GameFreak/Pokemon Company are petty and bitter at the fact HAL/Genius Sorority did better 3D animated battle simulators than their own mainline teams.

    • Anonymous

Only way I can see Stadium happening again is if they gut all of the competitive/ranked stuff in the mainline series and make it a dedicated eSports game.

Oh, and you have to pay for Pokemon HOME if you want to use your mons.

This is why they didn’t even make stadium or else.

        • Anonymous

It confuses westerners because they refuse to accept the “rules” of Pokemon, they don’t make a battle sim because for the games pvp you’re restricted to mons and moves from that Gen only. A battle sim would end up just having to be patched to current Gen rules anyway

    • Anonymous

Literally because they went 3D with the mainline games. Gamefreak legitimately only thought people liked the Stadium games BECAUSE you could see your Pokémon in 3D. Same reason why it took them so fucking long to not only acknowledge PokeSnap but to give it a sequel too. So if THAT could happen, there still might be a sliver of hope of seeing another Stadium game…

      • Anonymous

        >Gamefreak legitimately only thought people liked the Stadium games BECAUSE you could see your Pokémon in 3D.

What happened to this series man…. it lost its soul hard and it never managed to get even close of getting it back…

It’s all blocky and nonsensical machinery or plushies with chibi eyes. They have an insane library of already beloved and well established characters, why not use them?? Why this insistence in making ridiculous and ugly uninspired pieces of shit over and over again with broken and half-baked trash worlds that resembles more ps1 games 20 years later? It’s just so sad to see it at this state…

        • Anonymous

I think one of my favorite things about Stadium aside from animations is how you can visually see and feel the impact of the attacks

The stadium games are still the best pokemon games released and I don’t even think it’s close. I grew up playing the stadium games thinking pokemon was the coolest shit ever but we didn’t have money for handheld consoles and whatnot (we got our n64 for cheap from a family friend). When I finally grew up and played the actual mainline pokemon games I was fucking blown away by how mediocre and unenjoyable they were. I genuinely think the people that still play every pokemon release have autism.

So how easy is it to emulate gen 1 and 2 and transfer mons to an emulated stadium 2?

    • Anonymous

Relatively easy, but the problem is that free battles and some stadium cups tend to bug the fuck out. However it is relatively stable.

    • Anonymous

The transfer shit is easy. Just export the battery save file of whatever gen 1/2 game you’re playing and go to options then input setting (I’m using Project 64) then heading to controller pak and selecting transfer pak then click raw data and browse for your GB rom file and the sav battery file. The tricky part is making sure Stadium 1 and especially 2 run well, but unless you hate some glitchy displays here or there it shouldn’t be a problem.

    • Anonymous

Highly doubt there was any cheating, the AI Pokemon’s stats were way just higher than the rental Pokemon.

      • Anonymous

I mean it could just be variance but I swear things like confusion, paralysis, low accuracy moves, etc… always works better for the AI

    >the gym castle is completely filtering me
Also these games are so weirdly barebones if you don’t have a game to connect with it. Like half the features in Stadium 2 want you to hook up a Gen 2 game.

    • Anonymous

Also kinda defeats my purpose of wanting to replay them with 2x speed if it means it wants me to make my teams in the GB games to make the castle/cups easier. It’s so weird.

    • Anonymous

Stadium 2 leaned more heavily on the transfer pak compared to Stadium. The rentals for one were made even shittier and the cups even harder that you had to train your own guys on the carts.

      • Anonymous

I had round 2 unlocked in Stadium 2 and did the Gym leader castle with rentals. It was really not that hard of a game I used Wobuffet for everything lol

    • Anonymous

If I remember correctly, even if you’ve unlocked dodrio tower you also have to beat the elite four in the gen2 games to even use the speed boost.

    • Anonymous

Stadium was brutal. I was a dumb kid and didn’t think much about team composition, giving pokemon moves that do not match their type etc. But the anti-fun thunderwave, wrap and toxic spam sapped a lot of the enjoyment.
Sure, putting thunderwave on everything might be smart, but god damn is it boring and annoying.

I could swear that in Stadium 1’s (PAL version, if it matters) Game Boy Tower, the game even ran slower on the default speed than on an actual Game Boy.
      Or am I being crazy?

      • Anonymous

I think it’s an illusion brought on by the big resolution

      • Anonymous

PAL version should be 50hz, whereas the gameboy’s screen was 60hz. That would cause a noticeable difference in speed

        • Anonymous

Wasn’t the difference in speed due to 50 vs 60 Hz a non-issue for the N64 and later consoles, though?

          • Anonymous

No. PAL was a shit-tier region all the way until 6th gen when Japan FINALLY started giving a shit about making their games fully compatible with 50Hz.

    • Anonymous

I don’t claim what we have is better, but you always cherry pick animations and can’t cope with the fact they have always been lazy motherfuckers.

      • Anonymous

The older animations were objectively better. What the newer games have over the old ones are better overall models that aren’t as jank, and better battle speed.

        • Anonymous

NTA but it is a case by case basis, some moves like bind/wrap didn’t even really have an animation it just shot silly string and then warped the enemy model

        • Anonymous

Nah keep coping genwunner. You always use the same argument, and it’s proven that some pokemon are just lazily animated in stadium. In HGSS fire pokemon use flamethrower and the flames come out their fucking stomach. In RB the sprites are very lazy and every pokemon looks weird as fuck. Yellow fixed many of them, but of course was out later after they scammed everybody. Same with GSC.
Your nostalgia is what makes the games magically better.

          • Anonymous

It’s amazing how many mechanics are only explained in game in stadium 2.
I don’t think any mainline game ever explained things defense curl powering up rollout, or even basic shit like STAB.

  93. Anonymous

I remember coming home one day as a kid and getting this as a present. I clearly recall thinking that gaming was just getting started and I couldn’t wait to see what crazy things will happen next.
I could never replicate the amount of joy I felt during the N64 era, specially now that pokemon looks like garbage, custom animations and soul has been taken out, it’s all DLC crap and half assed games with pozzed bullshit in them. I wish I could go back.

can someone tell me why pokemon stadium 2 had less pokemon?

  96. Anonymous

I always loved how the stadiums in these games looked. As a little kid I used to pretend that I was really a combatant in a tournament like in the cartoon, using a team that I put a lot of time into raising in the games. I was even going so far as to give my Pokemon commands in real life, taunting my opponent, making over-dramatic reactions or going «Darn, he’s got the upperhand!» in my mind when the fight starts going south for me, etc.

    So Ganker,

How exactly do you plan to do animate 826 moves uniquely onto 905 different pokemon?

They don’t know. They are just stupid fuckers that pretend 5000 animations are easily done.

      • Anonymous

They’ve been reusing the same models for 3 gens now, if they bothered to make the animations they could just reuse them forever.
And again, anyone satisfied with the literal most profitable IP in history pushing out the mediocre crap they do is a genuine retard, you included.

        • Anonymous

I never said anythhing about being satisfied, assuming retard. I don’t buy nor condone any of the new gens. It’s over however, and they aren’t going to fix it ever. All they care about is producing more trash merchandise of low quality they sell for a huge price.

          • Anonymous

Why would you defend their mediocrity if you weren’t satisfied, dumbass?

There are 905 pokemon, I googled it before posting.
            >N64 models for stadium 1 and 2 are done, that means they won’t need redone for a new game!
            ???

nta but he probably meant the animations can be reused, not the models which is pointless because they’ve been reusing the X/Y models anyway.

            • Anonymous

Again I am not defending them, I just accept that they will not fix it, and that it’s pointless to ask them to do so.
I just don’t buy the games nor merch, that’s all you can do.

    • Anonymous

You start with realizing there’s only 500 or so actual pokemon, then you notice about 200 of them are already modeled and even have their gen 1/2 moves finished.

      >y-you can’t just skip the pokemon you don’t like
      yes?

I think that you can expect better than «pokemon stiffly hops in place for double kick» without having a unique animation for every possible combination of move and pokemon.

    • for free

I wonder how many fans have already tried their own projects and had gamefreak jump on their ass to terminate it

    • Anonymous

All you need is one good physical attack animation and one good special attack animation. Status moves can reuse either one of these or the intro animation. Then a handful of Pokémon can have unique animations for specific situations, like Blastoise with hydro pump. It would be s lot of work yeah, but once they actually make them with their current software, they won’t ever need to make them again.

    • Anonymous

Use TPCi’s money to outsource it to Bamco.

I’m dead serious on this one.

    • Anonymous

Pokefags don’t play videogames which is why they were able to think that’s feasible.
Reminds me of that period where people thought Cyber Sleuth was a masterpiece of animations.

      • Anonymous

Didn’t they had a special animation for every Digimon’s personal attack?
Why don’t Pokemon do the same shit?
Animate 1 good special attack per Pokemon like that bunny pokemon kicking a fireball, and the rest of attacks be some standard animation, like kick moves being the Pokemon doing some leg movement, not just jumping in fucking place like some retarded shit like

        Saw your text

    • Anonymous

My beef is that even if that’s a gargantuan task on paper, these games sell so much that completing it is absolutely feasible, especially since most of the work has already been done.

    • Anonymous

My question is why there’s 900 of them in the first place.

There aren’t even 300 models worth the time, and most moves are worthless filler. This isn’t a problem of scale, it’s a problem of worthless bloat being added because morons who don’t even play the game get a girl boner whenever they reply «genwunner» to someone criticizing the absolute incompetence of the company handling this IP.

    • Anonymous

      Most of them reuse animations.

    • Anonymous

Copy paste as much as possible. Most birds could share animations, as could a lot of quadrupeds. Many attacks can share animations as well, especially anything that’s essentially «spits a projectile» where you can just model the projectiles separately.

pokemon stadium’s system of mixing these animations with camera movements and effects is perfect — there’s no reason more time couldn’t be put in to these things

      • Anonymous

The only one of these that doesn’t exist for all Pokemon is a «recalled» animation

        • Anonymous

my point is that we still get dumb shit like pikachu hopping with his idle animation for double kick despite better animations being available

          • Anonymous

Double kick is literally just a joke animation as an homage to the original games, same with fury swipes. Multi hit moves you are actually expected to use like ice spear do the animation every time.

Bro the «Play physical animation X times» already exists in the fucking game, if it was laziness then all multi hit moves would just do the hop but they do not.

              this is just being lazy.

              >gamefreak being dumb
              >most fans being dumb
No wonder why these games and their developers haven’t evolved hehe beyond doing the minimum required to shit a game every year.

Joe «Serebii» Merrick is a retard. not only do I dislike his website design (why is there so much on the list, why not just fucking list the main pages and from there subpages), for certain games he never bothers fixing misinformation.
I am 100% sure he’s the reason why the Mystery Dungeon games had the whole «lucario rank affects recruitment» rumor floating around (it doesn’t).
also as you’ve shown, he’s a massive bootlicker.

    • Anonymous

most pokemon can’t learn all that many moves. A lot of moves would have overlap too. How many of those moves are just different punches, kicks, bites, scratches? Not to mention most special attacks. You probably don’t need different animations between thunder vs blizzard vs surf etc. And then, considering both these things, most pokemons move lists would have a lot of overlap anyways, like oh yeah Hitmonchan has a bunch of punching attacks. That’s not to say that it wouldn’t still be a lot of work, but
      >826 moves uniquely onto 905 different pokemon
      is just disingenuous

    • Anonymous

Frankly, you don’t. The time to start this project would’ve been years ago and the second best time would’ve been during the pokedex purge of Sword and Shield. This reduces the amount of pokemon you need to animate and should allow you to put more time into making cool animations. They seemed to understand the first part, but not the latter.

      >Method 1
Every Pokemon has up to 5 different animations. 2 Special Attack, 2 Regular Attack, 1 Signature move.
      >Method 2
Remodel every single Pokemon. Every Pokemon that share a «shape» now share the same skeletal rigging. Make a huge variety of animations and only three that are species unique.
I think Method 1 is the most realistic I can see from Game Freak, assuming they cared anymore.
