Practice reading, writing, and identifying the high-frequency word “what” from the Kindergarten-level Dolch sight words list.
This worksheet was designed as an independent practice to support the study of Kindergarten-level Dolch Sight Words.
The students will read, color, write, find, and use the sight word “what.”

Got fast finishers? Students who need a challenge can write sentences using the sight word on the back of the worksheet.
Students who need extra support can use a visual reference, like an alphabet display or anchor chart to help decode the word.
A Variety of Ways to Prepare This Resource
You can turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity! Print a few copies on cardstock and slip them into dry-erase sleeves. Students can record their answers with a dry-erase marker, then erase and reuse.
Additionally, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their reading notebooks.

Based on our kindergarten and first grade reading curriculums, we created additional sight word worksheets. These worksheets focus on more than one word. In addition, we created worksheets that contain several of Dolch’s preprimer and primer sight words.

As noted above we indicated if the sight word was included on either Dolch or Fry’s sight word lists. Dolch categorized his words based on grades: pre-primer (PP), primer, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. Whereas, Fry categorized his words based on frequency, e.g. top 50 or top 100.
Sight words can be tricky for a child who is learning to read. These are words that are so common that children should learn to quickly recognize them by sight, rather than ‘sounding them out’. Some of these words cannot be “sounded out” using phonetic principles. Our worksheets assist a child in learning to quickly recognize these sight words.
