SEQUOIA — (noun) a gigantic evergreen tree of the western United States.

The word is derived from the Cherokee man Sequoia, who created the Cherokee alphabet, consisting of 85 characters. He is said to be the only person ever to create a written language, without being literate in any language himself. He saw Whites reading and writing and proceeded to create an alphabet for his people. Pretty amazing!

The shortest word containing all five vowels exactly once is the six-letter EUNOIA, meaning alertness of mind and will (and also the title of a book by Canadian poet Christian Bok). However, it is not included in any major English dictionary. There are several seven-letter words containing all the vowels, including SEQUOIA, EULOGIA, MIAOUED, ADOULIE, EUCOSIA, EUNOMIA, EUTOPIA, MOINEAU, and DOULEIA. The relatively common French word OISEAU (meaning bird) contains all five vowels, once each, (since you didn’t say «in the English language.»)

I wrote this simple Python script to analyze the official Scrabble dictionary for words that contain each of the vowels and the letter ‘y’, as you requested:
