Thinking Of You Poem

Thinking of you rhyming poetry lets the recipient know you feel they are special, as this thinking of you poem does. It’s a rhyming poem that might apply to a lot of nice people you know!

Thinking of You

I’m thinking of you
With joy and pleasure,
Remembering times
I’ll always treasure.

When I think of you,
My heart is light;
You’re a special person,
A sheer delight.

Thoughts of you cheer me up
Whenever I’m blue;
I’m always happy
When I think of you.

I think of you often,
In the fondest way;

Than I ever could say.

Rhyming Poems about the Seasons

Spring Poem

Spring poems celebrate the rebirth of, well, everything! Spring poetry often features spring plants and weather, as this poem about spring does. I hope you enjoy this spring poem as much as I did writing this spring verse. It’s one of my favorite rhyming poems.

Sweet Spring

When the gloomy gray sky turns to clear azure blue,
And the snow disappears from the ground,
When the birds start to sing, and our moods start to lift,
Then we know Spring is coming around.

When the first flower bulbs poke their heads toward the sun,
Golden daffodils, hyacinths, too;
When the brown grass turns green, and the wildflowers bloom,
Then sweet Spring makes its showy debut.

Once again we awake from cold winter’s pale dream,
As our minds and our bodies revive;
We rejoice and delight in spring’s colorful sight;
Each new spring makes us glad we’re alive!

By Joanna Fuchs

Spring brings new life, like this deer fawn (above) I saw in my back yard. I wrote this rhyming poem about it.

To A Fawn

Pretty little fawn
On my back lawn,
A lovely sight,
Nature’s delight,

Please come again;
Stay safe till then.

Summer Poems

Summer poems are very popular, so here are two summer rhyming poems for you. There is lots of pleasurable material for summer poetry! This summer poem focuses on what is unique about summer. I hope you like this rhyming summer verse, a poem about summer.

Summer Pleasures

Sunshine beaming golden heat
For lots of fun outdoors;
Vacations, for a sweet retreat
To mountains, plains and shores.

Kids in constant summer motion,
Free from teacher’s rule,
Head to toe in suntan lotion,
At the beach or pool.

Inflatable rafts on which to float,
Camping and fishing gear,
Rowing or sailing or waterski boat,
Tell us summer’s here.

Things we can’t do the rest of the year
Are summer’s special treasures;
Oh summer, summer, linger long,
And give us all your pleasures!

By Joanna Fuchs

Summer poems can talk about so many fun things! This short piece of summer poetry tries to capture the satisfying aspects of summer in a rhyming poem.

spring picture of spring flowers petunias in barrel

Summer Delights

Healing summer heat
That comforts every bone;
Juicy summer fruits,
A frosty ice cream cone.

Aroma of sizzling meat
Grilling on the barbecue,
Green lawns and summer flowers,
A gazillion fun things to do.

Summer shorts and swimsuits,
Arms and legs are bare;
Summer’s sweet delights
Are welcome everywhere!

Autumn Poems and Fall Poems

I enjoy writing rhyming poems about the four seasons, so I wrote three autumn poems. These fall poems are rhyming poems. This autumn verse could be a fall poem for kids.

Fall’s Chores

Summer’s getting drowsy now;
Soon she will be dozing;
Flowers are folding up their heads,
Another season’s closing.

Fall is waiting in the wings,
Impatient to get going,
He has a lot of work to do,
Before it’s time for snowing.

«I have to paint the leaves,» he says,
«In shades of red and gold,
And send the geese along their way
Before it gets too cold.

«I’ll ripen pumpkins on the vine,
For sweet Thanksgiving pies,
And plump the apples on the trees
To make cider that satisfies.

«Sunshiny days will be shorter now;
I’ll add a cool, crisp breeze;
For this relief from summer heat,
I make no apologies.

«I have just one more thing to do;
My work is almost done;
I’ll turn the leaves to crunchy piles,
So kids can have fall fun!»

By Joanna Fuchs

golden leaved fall trees with red and white mailbox in front

Fall poetry should include things that characterize the season. This autumn poem includes a lot of them. Poems about fall are among my favorites. I hope you like this rhyming poem about fall.

Flamboyant Autumn

Autumn’s picturesque arrival
Is a colorful array
Of red and gold and orange,
In flamboyant, rich display.

Autumn days are shorter;
The nights are getting cool;
Geese fly south in flocks,
As kids go back to school.

Winter still is dreaming
Of snow and icicles,
As we put away our swimsuits,
Our boats and bicycles.

Wisps of smoke from chimneys
Tell of cozy, crackling fires;
Fall is being born,
As summer now retires.

By Joanna Fuchs

Fall Ballet Leaves Dancing

This rhyming poem is an autumn poem about the falling of the leaves. This fall poetry contains a lot of imagery. It’s a poem about autumn with action!

Fall Ballet

In fall the leaves are dancing
In the newly cool, crisp breeze,
Tumbling, skipping, flipping,
As they throw themselves from trees.

Twirling, whirling dancers,
Give performances each day,
Floating gracefully to earth,
In a circular ballet.

And as they land together,
Making not a sound,
They form a comfy blanket,
For the cooling winter ground.

By Joanna Fuchs

Winter Poems

Winter poems celebrate the special unique delights of the season. This poem about winter tries to capture some of the feelings of settling in for winter.

Winter’s Embrace

When winter blows its cold breath everywhere,
And throws a chill white blanket on the ground,
The sun makes sparkling diamonds on the snow,
And trees with icy diadems are crowned.

It’s time to snuggle in for winter fun
In cozy places, maybe by a fire.
A good book and some cocoa feel just right
In flannels, sweaters, winter’s warm attire.

Winter’s gloom is comforting somehow,
As life retreats from its rushed and frantic pace.
We’re ready now to stay indoors awhile,
As we settle into winter’s calm embrace.

By Joanna Fuchs

Tall winter trees covered with snow on side of road.

Although skiiers and snowboarders may dissent, this winter poem celebrates how winter curbs many activities and allows us to rest. It’s a poem about winter to which many of us can relate!

Winter Rest

Aaaah…Winter!
Aaaah… Snow!
An excuse to put away the sun-based toys,
stop the endless yard work,
end the overstimulation
of multicolored flowers backed by green
to just stare at…white.
White, white, white,
peaceful and serene,
white enveloping all,
whiteouts slowing everything down,
drawing us to leisurely activities,
relaxing pastimes,
to let our bodies catch up, rest,
and prepare for the excitement of Spring.
Aaaah…Winter!
Aaaah… Snow!

By Joanna Fuchs

Well, not everyone loves winter, as this rhyming poem indicates.

Yearning for Summer

In a cold, nasty winter
I’m yearning for summer.
All this snow, slush and ice,
It’s really a bummer.

Kick the snowshoes and skis
Slick boards out the door.
Banish short, gloomy days;
Hey, winter’s a bore!

Sunny rays warming me,
Bring on the heat!
Lazy time on a sandy beach
Just can’t be beat.

When it all starts to thaw,
And Spring is a comer,
Oh, hurry up! Hurry up!
Please, give me summer!

By Joanna Fuchs

Is it just me, or is life getting crazier all the time? I wrote this rhyming poem in response to stress from schedule pressure.

Bright, multicolored frame with yellow center, with poem Life Madness on it.

To make search possible, I must also include the plain text of the poem above.

Life Madness

Life gets faster every day,
No time to think, no time to play.
Hurry, chaos, lots of stress,
Tension leads to sleeplessness.

When will all this madness cease?
Where is free time? Where is peace?
I’m running, doing, till I drop.
Give me buttons: Pause, Mute, STOP!

By Joanna Fuchs

Here’s yet another rhyming poem about nature.

Trees

How lovely and pleasant to look at the trees,
Gracefully dancing in the breeze.
Whose shade in summer cools us down
With its wide, protective leafy crown.

There’s not much better for us to see
Than a beautiful, green, and beckoning tree.

By Joanna Fuchs

In gratitude for God’s creation, this rhyming poem about the wonders of Earth.

Wonderful Earth

What a wonderful gift the earth is,
Awesome in every way.
Rain falls down; plants grow up,
Flowers give a lovely bouquet.

The sun glows every morning;
The moon lights up the night.
Clouds float by in a beautiful sky;
Lakes and oceans increase the delight.

In thanks, dear God, for Earth, where we live,
Our hearts and minds to You, we give.

Pet Poem

This rhyming poem gives credit to our pets for all the love and pleasure they give us.

There’s Nothing Like A Pet

There’s nothing at all quite like a pet;
They’re not like any human you’ve met.
No neurosis, psychosis, no guilt or sad stare;
Your pet is just happy whenever you’re there.

A loveable playmate when you’re bored or blue,
A pet creates fun, when you’ve nothing to do.
They fill the gap when you’re feeling lonely;
They let you know you’re their one and only.

You fall in love, right from the start;
They are thieves, those pets; they steal your heart.
If you cherish your pet, who gives so much pleasure,
You’ll have years of delight, and memories to treasure.

Sister Poem

Poetry that rhymes can be about family members. Rhyming poems that are sister poems celebrate that special female bond. Use this quality sister poetry to express your love and appreciation. It seems appropriate that sister poems be rhyming poems.

This free sister poem, a rhyming poem, will touch her heart. Note: There are more sister poems on this site. Use the Search Box at the top of this page to find them.

Sisters Heart to Heart

From the time that we were little,
I knew you’d always be
Not just a loving sister
But a caring friend to me.

A shoulder I could cry on,
A helping hand in times of need,
A cheerleader to lift me up,
My angel in both word and deed.

We told each other secrets;
We giggled and we cried.
We shared our joys and sorrows—
We were always side by side.

We have a very special bond;
I knew it from the start.
You’ll have my love forever—
We’re sisters, heart to heart.

By Joanna Fuchs

This whole site is full of rhyming poetry. We have more than 800 poems, most of them rhyming. Sometimes I have to put phrases on this site, such as rhymes poems and poems that rhymes, that are not grammatically correct, because a sizeable number of people are typing those phrases, such as poems and rhymes into their search engines. So there they are, those terms that refer to poetry that rhymes.

Wife Poem

Wife poems should radiate lots of affection, as this poem for a wife does. It’s a rhyming poem. Note: There are more wife poems on this site. Use the Search Box at the top of this page to find them.

I Celebrate My Wife

When you’re near me, I feel complete;
When you’re not, there’s a part of me missing.
Your loving provides such a treat,
There’s no one I’d rather be kissing.

You’re my sweetheart, my love and my life,
And that is why I must say,
I’m really glad you’re my wife;
I celebrate you on this day!

Retirement Poem

Retirement poems in the form of rhyming poems can express affection for the person leaving and recognition for their contributions, as this retirement message does. This retirement poetry has an alternate retirement verse at the end. If you switch the last two lines with the alternate two lines, it becomes a tongue-in-check funny retirement poem.

Note: There are two more retirement poems on the
Teacher Poems page.

Good Memories

Your retirement leaves a great big gap
In all our lives and hearts;
A workplace is never quite the same
When someone like you departs.

You’ve enriched us in so many ways;
We’ll miss you more than you know;
We wish you luck, and hope you take
Good memories when you go.

Alternate ending for funny version:

You’re terrific; You’re very special to us,
And now that we’ve said that, just go!

Inspirational and Life Poems

Despite the huge amount of free verse poetry available, a poem that rhymes is almost always more in demand. Inspirational life poems can be rhyming poems or free verse poems, but this one is a rhymes poem. These kinds of poems may reflect on the joys and sorrows, the richness and complexity of life.

This life poem, a rhyming poem, focuses on the ups and downs of life.

We Don’t Know Why

The twinkling of stars on a balmy night,
The gabble of geese as they take flight,
A passionate look in your lover’s eye,
The graceful ballet of a butterfly.

Living on the edge, in a committed way,
Facing all challenges day by day,
Your life on the line—to do, not just try,
Life is exciting—a natural high.

Failure and boredom appear in your life;
Unhappiness cuts you, just like a knife.
«Where are all the good times,» you cry;
Is life just hard, and then you die?»

The freshening feel of an ocean breeze,
The colors of change in the leaves on the trees,
The feeling of peace as the days go by,
Life’s a dazzling puzzle—and we don’t know why.

By Karl and Joanna Fuchs

Poetry that rhymes is easier to relate to and to remember. This inspirational poem, a rhyming poem, is also a motivational poem. Inspirational poetry should contain elements that everyone can relate to. I think we can all remember a time or two when we felt like this.

Find Your Thankful Self

Sometimes you feel you’re nothing at all,
And that’s all you’ll ever be.
You study all your defects;
An empty life is all you see.

Instead of looking at what you haven’t got,
Seeing only what you lack,
Focus on your blessings,
And get right back on track.

There are many good things about being you;
Count them one by one.
Your life has lots of comforts,
While others, they have none.

Many people have it much, much worse
Yet they have happiness.
They take joy in little things
They’re thankful, though they have less.

Lift your spirits up right now;
Get out of that depression.
Find your thankful self,
And give it full expression.

Find the joy in little things;
Focus on fun and laughter.
See life’s blessings all around,
And live happily ever after!

Relationship Rhyming Poem

I wrote this rhyming poem from personal experience.

They Hurt Me

«They hurt me,» I cried,
With a broken heart.
Get over it?
I couldn’t start.

Thinking about it
All the time,
Feeling like the victim
Of an emotional crime.

Then someone said something
I couldn’t deny;
On these words
I now rely:

«Stop thinking about
This aggravation;
Your mind’s a TV;
Change the station!»

By Joanna Fuchs

Sorry or Forgiveness or Apology Poem

Rhyming poems can express emotions, and rhyming forgiveness poems have to cover a lot of things. An I’m sorry poem must apologize and reestablish the relationship, and this apology poem does that. It’s a rhyming forgive me poem. Note that you can change «said» to «did,» if that’s more appropriate.

Please Forgive Me

When I said what I said, I was wrong;
Please forgive me, and let’s start anew.
Our relationship means much to me.
I’m so sorry my blunder hurt you.

Though your memory may bring it back up,
Won’t you please try to put it away?
I’ll be tactful and sensitive now;
I’ll think of your needs every day.

Let’s go on with our lives as we were;
I’d take it all back if I could.
Let’s focus on positive things;
What we have is important and good.

Grandparent’s Day Poem

Poems with rhymes for grandparents have to include a variety of descriptions to fit different families. Take the stanzas of this rhyming poem that fit your grandma and grandpa and leave the others out. This grandparents poem can also be used as a free Grandparents Day poem. Note: There are more poems for grandparents on this site. Use the Search Box at the top of the page to find them.

Grandparents Meet A Need

Grandparents meet a need
That no one else can fill;
They’re always kind and gentle;
They love you and always will.

They have plenty of time to listen,
To encourage and to care;
When others are too busy,
Grandparents are always there.

They have delicious foods;
There’s always something cooking;
They feed you scrumptious tidbits,
When no one else is looking.

They take you special places;
They’re never in a hurry.
They soothe you when you’re troubled,
And help you not to worry.

They buy you things you want,
Even things that you don’t need;
«Do what makes them happy!»
Is every grandparent’s creed.

They focus on your good points,
And overlook each flaw;
How could we do without
Our grandma and grandpa?

Thank you, Grandpa and Grandma,
For giving life a special shine;
I’m glad to have grandparents,
And happy you both are mine!

By Joanna Fuchs

I wrote this Grandpa poem in 1965. He kept the card, so after his death, it came back to me. It’s a Happy Birthday grandfather poem. The original is typed on a typewriter, since personal computers were almost 20 years away. (Yes, I’m old. Geezer gal here.)

Ode to a Grandfather Who Made Growing Up Easier

Since I was a kid, I’ve known that my
Grandpa is a wonderful guy.
When a girl’s growing up, she needs a man
Who indulges her whenever he can;
Who argues for “yes” when momma says no,
And takes her to the zoo when she wants to go;
Who buys her things that are really swell,
And always says, “Remember, don’t tell!”
Who plies her with candy and other things gooey,
And shares his egg foo yung and chop suey.

Sometimes I wish I were a kid again,
So I could be coddled by that man of men;
But I have memories of the good times, you see,
And I hope they’re as much fun for you as for me.
So more sincerely than anyone else can say,
I wish you, Grandpa, a Happy Birthday!

By Joanna Fuchs

You could use this rhyming poem as a no-special-occasion greeting card poem if you live somewhere similar to the place the poem describes, such as the U.S. Northwest, other U.S. northern states, including Alaska, Canada, or anywhere the poem description fits. More people relate to poetry that rhymes than to free verse.

Where I Live

I live in a place filled with beauty that’s rare,
That the trees and the animals all get to share.
It has mountains and valleys and birds in the air;
The place where I live, you might want to live there.

The rivers and streams flow to lakes filled with life,
And the people can fish, boat and swim, free of strife.
The egret and hawk fish, and eagles fish, too,
But the lakes are so large, there’s still plenty for you.

Wild turkeys and critters like that come around,
Pretty deer with their fawns, and moose can be found
Right in your yard; what a wondrous delight;
It’s a paradise rare that just fills up your sight.

The mountains surround you, and their beauty survives,
As they slowly turn white, when winter arrives.
There is so much beauty, it just doesn’t seem fair;
The place where I live, you might want to live there.

Party Poem

Giving a party with sangria on the menu? This little rhyming poem might be for the invitation.

Awesome Sangria

Here’s a poem to an awesome sangria;
More than one glass, I can no longer see ya.
It’ll make you smile like a happy clown,
But when you drink it, you’d better sit down!

Olympic snowboarder flying down hill.

I wrote this rhyming poem in honor of the 2014 Winter Olympics. I’m including it in text as well as in the image above so you can find it if you search for it..

Winter Olympics

Winter Olympics just astound,
Flying high above cold, hard ground.
Soaring free over snow and ice,
One mistake costs a dreadful price.

Twists and flips into empty space,
Does he show fear? No, not a trace.
Amazing feats are death defying;
Hide your eyes; it’s scarifying!

Olympics thrill, excite, and then,
We wait four years till they’re back again!

Famous Rhyming Poems

Not my poems, but they are some of my favorites, and I want to share these rhyming poems with you. I started collecting them in 1958.

We Never Know How High

We never know how high we are
Till we are called to rise;
And then, if we are true to plan,
Our statures touch the skies.

The heroism we recite
Would be a daily thing,
Did not ourselves the cubits warp
For fear to be a king.

Emily Dickinson

(What’s a cubit? It’s an ancient measure of length, approximately equal to the length of a forearm.)

I need (we all need) to focus on our blessings instead of our challenges. This short rhyming poem is a good reminder

Happy

The world is so full of a number of things,
I’m sure we should all be as happy as kings.

Robert Louis Stevenson

The Dreaded Task

I found the task I had dreaded so
Was not so difficult when once begun.
It was the dread itself that was the foe,
And dread once conquered means a victory won.

Margaret E. Bruner

Google+ is gone now, but I was very active, so I wrote this rhyming poem:

Sonnet to Google Plus

To Google Plus, I’d like to write a sonnet:
Whatever goal you have, you’ll reach it here.
It’s a fantasy, with bells and whistles on it.
It’s filled with wondrous, magical techie gear.

The endless stream will tell you everything;
All, that is, you really want to know.
And with the circles, please do have a fling;
Intriguing people there will say «Hello!»

Beautiful photos make a good impression.
Communities, events, and video, too.
It’s so much fun, it’s hard to end the session.
Google Plus is all I want to do!

So when you start, be careful; be aware:
Google Plus is an Internet affair.

Many people are searching for a good prayer. I’m not sure what good prayers are, but here is a nice prayer if you are looking for a general prayer, an all-purpose prayer. You don’t have to say it in a rhyming poem, of course; you can put it in your own words.

There are many free good prayer poems at this site. To find them, use the Search Box at the top of the page, and enter the word «prayer.»

A Good Prayer

Dear Lord above please hear our prayer:
Please keep us in your love and care.
For sins of ours, we accept the blame;
Forgive us, please, in Jesus name.

Please lead us in the right direction;
We pray for Your divine protection;
Keep our loved ones safe, secure;
If troubles come, help us endure.

Your Holy purpose, help us fulfill;
Keep us always in Your will.
We pray for compassion, mercy and grace;
Let heaven be our eternal place.

Thank you for blessings big and small;
Thank you, dear Lord, for them all.

In Jesus name we pray; Amen
