(a US$29B Indian conglomerate) This would have cost me double the time if I would have done it in the classical way. “What I very much like about your Solver product is that, without being an expert on Solver, even worse, while only being a beginner, I can apply it so many times in my daily life (I am a professor of Chemical Engineering), that it saves me a significant amount of time. For example, last weekend I solved eight problems on Chemical Reaction Engineering and for six of them I used Solver. This would have cost me double the time if I would have done it in the classical way. I use Solver mainly for curve fitting (any type of model), roots finding for simultaneous equations, maximizing functions.” John Hopmans, Professor, Batangas State University, Philippines The result is a truly impressive product. “Risk Solver has innovative ‘simulation optimization’ capability that richly integrates simulation with Frontline’s optimization capability.
Microsoft Excel.
Excel.
Excel
Excel.
Excel.
Excel.
Microsoft Excel
Excel
Excel.
Solver Query
Excel

Solver is definitely next What’sBest! The most popular tool for solving optimization models using Microsoft Excel as a platform. In fact the free version of Solver we use is developed by Frontline Systems Inc., which provides a number of tools and resolution engines that are very useful when addressing problems of real life situations that are applied in the industry.
In the following article we will show you how to download and install the trial version of Premium Solver which is available for free for a period of 15 days, which allows us to solve significantly higher operational research models when it comes to the number of decision variables and constraints than those which can be solved with the traditional version of Solver. Additionally, by having improved resolution algorithms reliability of the solutions found and the processing times are more reliable. Here are the detailed instructions on how to download and install the trial version of Premium Solver Pro on a computer with an Excel 2010 version.
Step 1: Sign in Frontline Systems Inc, fill out the information required in the subscription form.
Step 2: Download the trial version compatible with the version of Excel that you have. In this tutorial the 64-bit version installation is shown. Once you are sure of our choice select “Download Now”.
If you have Excel 2010 and want to know how many bits you use to run your version of Excel, go to menu and select the Help option. In the lower right corner the number of bits of your version is displayed under “About Microsoft Excel”.
Step 3: Check your email account (which you provided in the subscription form from Step 1) and write down the 2 passwords that you have been assigned (pictured below, these have been protected with blue and red).
Step 4: Once the download is complete run the “SolverSetup64.exe” file (or the name that corresponds to the version of Excel you are using).
Then select “Next”.
Now we enter the password that we have received by email (Step 3) to continue the program activation:
Then we must accept the license agreements of the program and select “Next”.
At the moment, the program license has been activated and we must continue the installation process by selecting “OK”.
You must select the folder where the program will be installed and you can at this point simply select the folder that the program has selected by default.

www.solver.com

The commercial-quality
optimization solvers described on this page contain advanced technology that
can handle spreadsheet models that the free ‘Solver
Add-In’ cannot. The current
generation of spreadsheet optimization solvers have extraordinary
capabilities to handle very large models and are suitable for many truly
«industrial strength» applications.
At the risk of over-simplifying, Optimization Solvers are powerful but not necessarily robust. When an Optimization Solver works well (as is the case for most business models) it provides excellent results, and usually provide a mathematical guarantee of the quality of the recommendation. However, on some models, optimization solvers don’t function well. Such models are candidates for Meta-Heuristic Solvers, or for thoughtful reprogramming to make the spreadsheet model more «solver-friendly» as discussed in the «For the Serious Analyst» section below. (Note: «Operations Research» professionals should be sure to read the «For the Applied Mathematics Professional» section at the bottom of this page.)

“Premium Solver is Frontline Systems’ basic upgrade for the standard Excel Solver. It’s 100% upwardly compatible from the standard Solver — which Frontline developed for Microsoft — with the capacity to solve much larger problems — up to 2,000 variables — at speeds anywhere from three to 100 times faster than the standard Solver.”
“Premium Solver Platform is our premier Excel Solver upgrade for conventional optimization (without uncertainty). It offers far more power than Premium Solver, accepts plug-in Solver Engines, and is upgradeable to Risk Solver Platform, which adds simulation and stochastic optimization (for models with uncertainty).”

For the Serious Analyst: Use Solver-Friendly Spreadsheet Programming
If you’re serious about putting optimization to use in your organization, you should invest some time in learning to make your spreadsheets «solver friendly». You should program your spreadsheets in a solver-friendly way because there are times when a commercial optimization solver will perform poorly or even not work at all, because «intuitive» spreadsheet programming approaches can confuse an optimization solver. Experience tells us that seemingly minor details in
the way you program your model can make a big difference in what an
optimization solver can do for you.
By taking steps to design and program your spreadsheet to be «solver-friendly», it is possible for extremely large and/or extremely complex
models to be successfully optimized. You can find advice for solver-friendly programming

For the Applied Mathematics Professional: Cutting-Edge Algorithms at Your Service
If you’re an «operations research» professional or have other advanced mathematical training, you should know that commercial
spreadsheet solvers can handle problems of any size (physical memory limitations still apply) via proprietary algorithms or plug-in optimization engines that include cutting-edge tools such as XPRESS,
GUROBI and others.
In this sense, spreadsheet solvers are just as powerful as algebraic optimization software. You should also know that the «simulation optimization» capability in Risk Solver Platform is among the best in class.
