Context: (Red Sentence is the sentence I want to ask question.)
The academic research and practical experiments that I conducted during my undergraduate studies in Information Security have assisted me in laying a solid foundation for security and crime science. Through the course of Network Security, I gained a deep understanding of cybersecurity and mastered various techniques of network security. It also equipped me with professional skills in the design and evaluation of secure systems. In the course of Data Mining, I achieved a high level of proficiency in data extraction and generation as well as data analysis. Last but not least, the course of Information Content Security improved my Python coding skills to complete experimental projects on natural language processing.

This is a paragraph in a personal statement applying for a university.
I heard that «Last but not least» is unformal and not suitable for use in a Personal Statement. Is that so?
If yes, what words should I use instead? I only can thought «Finally», is it OK, or we have better choices?

    Thanks.
I want to ask a little more specific.
In my original text, I should use «Lastly» or “And Lastly” to replace «Last but not least»?
I saw both usage in dictionary. Which one fits my text?

I just thought about whether I can use “Besides” or «Moreover».
I want to express that other courses not mentioned are also helpful to me. But due to space, I can only list these three courses.
I feel that using «finally» means that only these three courses are useful.

I would not say «lastly» in any way. The red sentence is your 3d example of a course you took. It is only «last» in this paragraph, and only because you mentioned the other 2 courses before this one.

In other words, «lastly» is talking about the paragraph you wrote, not about your training. I don’t think that comment should be in a CV.

I want to express that other courses not mentioned are also helpful to me.

You already said that. That was your first sentence — «my undergraduate studies in Information Security».

This is a paragraph in a personal statement applying for a university.

I read your post again, and I’m confused. Are you applying for a graduate program (a Master’s degree)?

It looks like you have already done your undergraduate work. You write:

    during my undergraduate studies

I have experience writing resumes (CVs) but not letters like this.

You have talked about your undergraduate work. You could simply stop there. If you feel the paragraph needs «an ending», maybe that should be a sentence about the program you are applying for. You look forward to learning more in that program — something like that.

Sorry, I may have expressed wrongly.
I meant you said «You would not say ‘lastly’ in any way.»
So I want to know which word is more appropriate to replace the word ‘lastly’ (which is ‘Last but not least’ in the OP) in my sentences.

So I want to know which word is more appropriate to replace the word ‘lastly’ (which is ‘Last but not least’ in the OP) in my sentences.

Sorry I was not clear. By saying «in any way» I meant that I would not replace the word «lastly» with anything. In my opinion, it should not be said. Therefore no word is «appropriate».

I explained my thinking this way:

It is only «last» in this paragraph, and only because you mentioned the other 2 courses before this one. In other words, «lastly» is talking about the paragraph you wrote (saying this is your last sentence), not about your training.

If you mean something else by «lastly», please explain what meaning you want.

There is no need to add ‘lastly,’ ‘finally,’ or any other such word to the last sentence of this paragraph as it currently stands. If you want a closing sentence for the paragraph, you can say something about the combination of all your courses as a foundation for further study.

I assume that Network Security, Information Content Security, and Data Mining are classes rather than programs of study: in that case, it might be better to say ‘In the Data Mining course’ followed in parentheses by the code that the course has on your transcript (do the same for the other courses) to help the committee members who are going back and forth between the cover letter and your transcript as they read your application.
