Marketing | Branding | Blogging. These Three Words Describe Me in The Best Way. I Am the founder of Burban Branding and Media, a Self-Taught Marketer with 10 Years of Experience. Helping Startups/ Companies/ and Small Businesses to Enhance Their Business Through Branding and Marketing. On A Mission to Help Small Businesses to Be a Brand.

Dictionary domain names, 3 letter domain names and 4 letter domain names are some of the hardest domains to find and secure. By «dictionary domains,» we mean the use of a single word as a domain name. This means that the full domain name between the «www» and the «.com» is the equivalent of a word listed in a language dictionary. For instance, sites like «www.coffee.com», «www.auction.com», «www.example.com» or «www.test.com» meet these criteria. These are difficult to secure mostly because they are specific and they are easy to think of and highly search engine optimization friendly-they require little originality.

Value of Dictionary Word Domains

In the world of competitive internet advertizing and search engine optimization strategy, most of the good and useful single word domains are registered. Search engines show favor to domain that match searched keywords or exact match domains, but this is reduced when a domain name is longer or too big. A short domain names thus almost guarantees that it will create a top search result with little help of SEO when that particular word is searched for. Now do you understand why these types of domains are so valued?

Despite the fact that many are registered, there are still great rewards to the user who refuses to give up pursuit of a dictionary word. An available one word domain name might seem to have little or no practical value. Chances are, it is a word that is not commonly spoken or thought of and thus seems useless. In many cases, this is true. But imagine if in the near future someone makes a company or starts a business with this keyword. Then you will have the domain name that company wants for their website and they will need to buy it from you. This is why single word domain names are worthwhile. It pays to research growing companies and consider the names businesses will find most valuable. And this is the another reason there are many one word domains for sale .Perhaps you can also try to grab or keep an eye on the list of all available dictionary domain names.

Buying dictionary names are like investment, and you must consider the resell value of domains as products. For example, Geographers.com is currently listed for sale at about $30,500. Right behind is conversed.com for around $16,000. Few years back casino.com sold at about 5.5 million dollar and pokern.de sold at about .13 million dollars or piscinas.es for 25k. Even other TLDs like engineering.org for 0.19 million dollars and lyrics.net for 65k and american.info for 23k. There are thousands of examples like this. If you are an expert domainer or know about domain industry probably you know the value of dictionary words. They are always most wanted and valuable in all gTLDs and ccTLDs.

Start With a Professional Tool

So, do you want to know where to begin? Do you want a domain name dictionary or tool that can provide all dictionary words and check availability? Our tool can help with just that. The most common use of tools like domain name generator is to create keyword rich domains to increase web traffic, hits, etc. Well, we can also work to provide you with a domain dictionary and can show all available names in many gTLDs as well as ccTLDs to increase your website generic traffic. Just select your dictionary and hit the search button. Our tool will start searching domain name availability for all words in your selected dictionary in different domain extension simultaneously.

Dictionary Domains

The search tool does not stop at the English language. You can select or choose your dictionary in other languages like German, French, Spanish, and Greek etc. In fact, this is one of the most important and unique functions of our domain name search tool. Even if you select our German dictionary you can select .de domain extension and tool will start checking German words in .de extension as well as other extensions like .com, .net, .org etc at the same time. Even you can search alphabetically or randomly or fixing length of the name and investigate all the openings.

You can even do your own translation and bring your wanted name to check availability in our bulk domain checker which also supports many TLDs and unlimited queries. This will allow you to explore the available dictionary domain names without being limited by our languages database. Having a foreign dictionary word can be of use because it can help market a product internationally, or just outside of the U.S. Either way, you still have the advantage of single word, which will come with all the search engine benefits. Finding and purchasing a dictionary word domain can be tough. For free, we will help you find single word domain names and purchase them for use or sell. We believe you will love this unique tool.

One-Word .COM Domain Names — What’s the big deal?!

By Evergreen.com,
17 January 2021

As a domain name broker that specialises in one-word .COM domains, one question that I often get is, ‘Why so much?

It can be hard to comprehend how something that you cannot physically touch, smell or taste can be worth millions of dollars.

Even those with deep pockets often can’t imagine shelling out such massive sums for something they can’t live in, drive or fly.

And planning to invest this level of capital into a digital asset, such as a domain name, can be difficult to explain to your business partners, investors and possibly even yourself.

If you are unfamiliar with the domain name aftermarket, it is only natural to question why a particular name is priced so high and whether or not it is worth it – for you and your business.

So, let’s take a look at precisely why certain domain names command such high prices so you can make informed decisions about your own domain transactions.

Why is a domain name valuable?

A domain name is the foundation upon which you will create and grow your online brand and business. It is how your customers will remember you and find you online, so getting it right is essential. Not only will it set you up for success, but it will save you time, resources and money in the long run.

The most valuable and sought-after domains are short, popular one-word .com names that can be found in the English dictionary. Prices start in the strong five figures (USD) and go all the way up to eight figures. For example, Voice.com sold for $30M in 2019.

In fact, as of early January 2021, 66% of the top 100 reported domain sales of all time were one-word .COM names, and the average sale price was $3.5M USD. [Source]

Why does it cost so much?

You’re probably familiar with the real estate adage “location is everything”. And if you think of domain names as being like real estate, it should be a lot easier to understand why everyone wants these prime properties.

They’re easier to reach, they’re going to get more traffic, and your customers will be more likely to find them, return to them, remember them, and recommend them. What more could you ask for?

One-word .COM domain names enhance your overall brand positioning with benefits such as authority, trust, memorability, flexibility, organic type-in traffic, marketing effectiveness, and search engine optimization (SEO).

That’s why several leading brands and start-ups have invested in one-word .COM Internet addresses, including Amazon.com, Answers.com, Apple.com, Box.com, Dish.com, Dove.com, Gap.com, Hotels.com, Orange.com, Slack.com, Target.com and Uber.com, to name a few.

You could argue that some of these are natural choices because it’s their business’ name, but that’s precisely the point! Some of the most successful businesses have one-word names for many of the same reasons that one-word domain names are so attractive: they’re easy to remember and great for branding. Apple’s business has nothing to do with fruit, but everyone knows what they sell – even non-customers.

Of course, not all one-word .COM names are equal, which is why you’ll see a variety of prices. Here are some of the factors that can influence an individual one-word .COM domain name’s price:

Ease of saying, spelling and recalling: If a particular word is a long one that many people spell wrong, it won’t be nearly as desirable as something short and simple.

Popularity/trends: In the early days of the internet, sticking an “e” or “i” at the beginning of a word was popular. Then, adding “-ly” or “ify” was in vogue; you know who you are! These trends will come and go, and words that use them can cost a lot while they’re in fashion and then start to feel dated as trends evolve.

Connotation: What the name implies may be just as important as what it is literally saying, so consider the word from every angle to assess its value.

Length: The fewer characters, the better. In addition to being more memorable, they are a lot easier to type-in, especially in today’s hectic world where everyone is in a hurry and possibly typing with one hand on a cell phone while holding a coffee in the other hand.

Extension: As we’ve discussed, .COM is by far the most valuable extension right now, and that is not expected to change in the foreseeable future.

Radio test: One measure of a valuable domain name is whether people can spell it when they hear it. While you might argue that the radio isn’t nearly as popular as it once was, it’s a sentiment that also applies to word-of-mouth referrals – for example, telling someone about the website at a coffee shop – as well as giving someone your email address containing your domain name over the phone or talking about it on a podcast.

History of name/term: A domain name that is linked to something negative – whether it’s a historical figure or event or a word that may come across as racist, sexist or otherwise offensive – isn’t going to be highly valued in most cases. It’s also very important to research any past and/or present legal disputes connected to the domain name.

Domain usage: There may be cases where a domain name was used by someone in the past who incurred Google penalties or bans, and that could impact the value of the domain name in the future, as well as search engine rankings.

Comparing domain names can be a bit like comparing apples to oranges because they are all unique and need to be assessed and appraised on a case-by-case basis.

Is it worth it?

Instead of thinking about how much the domain name costs, think about how much your business or project could benefit from owning it.

How would it affect your business if a competitor acquired the domain name?

Are you losing emails and traffic to the domain name?

Exactly what will it cost you not to secure the domain?

What if I can’t afford it right now?

If the price of a domain name is not within reach, that’s okay. You can possibly explore options like a lease-to-own, payment plan, lease-only, equity deal, or joint venture. There is often some flexibility available at these price levels.

However, I’d strongly advise engaging a reputable and experienced domain name broker who can navigate these more complicated waters (negotiations, legal, escrow, etc) on your behalf.

One thing is for certain: If you are looking for a one-word .com domain name, you do need to act quickly. There are only so many suitable single words in the English dictionary, and the pool of available domains is getting drier by the day – and the ones that have already been snapped up, will typically never be for sale again.

Who can help me buy or sell my domain name?

If you require a trusted broker who can help you navigate the complex world of buying and selling one-word .COM domain names, get in touch with our team today.

Leveraging more than 20 years of experience in the domain name industry, Evergreen.com provides brokerage services to confidentially and securely acquire and sell one-word .com domains on behalf of public figures, investors, start-ups and major brands around the world.

Some of the valuable one-word .COM domains currently for sale on Evergreen.com’s marketplace include Boating.com, Cybersecurity.com, Runner.com, Gleam.com, Midnight.com, Face.com, Kitty.com, Robot.com, Pineapple.com, Sustainable.com, Tomorrow.com, Gurus.com, and Lilac.com, to name a few.

Don’t underestimate the power of a great domain name – because great domains grow great business!

Lemonade. Nest. Snowflake.

These are all brand names of companies that don’t sell what their names suggest. Lemonade doesn’t sell lemonade; it sells insurance. You can’t buy a bird’s nest from Nest, but you can buy a connected thermostat. Snowflake won’t ship snow to you, but you can use its cloud data platform.

These three companies represent an evolution of naming over the past couple of decades and are examples of the hottest names these days: one-word dictionary terms.

Previous Trends

There have been a lot of trends in company naming./p>

typewriter with abcde.com

When the web was new, e-domains were hot. Just add an ‘e’ to the front of a term, like eInsurance, and your company name was suddenly cool.

Apple made ‘i’ the more popular prefix, and suddenly companies were adding ‘i’ to the front of their names.

Name not available as a .com? Just drop some vowels: Flickr, Tumblr, Scribd.

Or remember the trend when everyone added an -ly to their name, such as Bitly?

These have all been trends, and trends come and go. Choosing a name that’s trendy has a big pitfall. At some point, that trend dies and the company looks dated. Having an ‘e’ in front of a name makes it look old now–not even a new cool logo can save it.

One-word Domains Aren’t A Trend

One-word company names aren’t a fad or trend. They’ve been around since well before the Internet. Companies have long named themselves after individual words that don’t have anything to do with their products.

toy blocks T, H, and E

Apple will sell you a phone or a computer, but it doesn’t stock apples. (If it did, they would be very shiny, easy to eat, and cost a fortune.)

Amazon.com is one of the earliest examples of Internet companies choosing a single word for a brand, at least that survived the dot.com bust. Amazon is a river and region. Amazon.com started by selling books and has never sold tour packages to Amazon.

Nowadays, the holy grail of branding is being able to lock down a one-word domain and get the matching .COM domain: Cover.com, Clover.com, Bolt.com, Carrot.com.

But high demand for simple, easy-to-remember domain names means high prices.

Last year Carrot.com sold for nearly $600,000. Joyride.com sold for $300,000, and Voice.com sold for a record-smashing $30 million.

Alternatives To One-word Domains

Because most companies don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on domain names, some still use a one-word brand, but they get creative with their domains.

A company called Compound uses GetCompound.com. Cabin chose RideCabin.com.

Others choose an alternate extension such as .IO or .CO.

Made up words also work, but they don’t lend as much prestige and they need to be easy-to-spell.

Choosing something other than the exact-match TLD .COM comes with its drawbacks, though.

Carrot started its business with the domain OnCarrot.com. Even though the company was called Carrot, people started referring to it as On Carrot. Also, other companies adopted the Carrot brand and this caused confusion. Eventually, when it had enough cash, the company bought Carrot.com.

Investing in One-word Domains

Clearly, one-word names are the holy grail in branding and that won’t change anytime soon. Domain investors should consider adding one-word domains to their portfolios to take advantage of this. If the price of these domains is outside their reach, they should consider buying one-word domains in alternative top level domains.

And don’t forget you can search domains at Namecheap to see if your next one-word domain is available.
