Question

Microsoft Date and Time Picker is not available in Excel 2016 under the Developer tab then «More Tools». The PC is Windows 10 64 bit running Office 365, 2016, 32 bit. I installed «Microsoft Visual
Basic 6.0 Common Controls» and registered «mscomct2.ocx». Any suggestions on how this feature can be added to Excel 2016? Thanks-

Hi sph422,
This is what I did:
my environment:
Windows 10 [64-bit]
Office 2016 [32-bit]1. download «MSCOMCT2.OCX«
http://danielcurran.com/freeware/MSCOMCT2.cab
2. copy it to «C:%windows%SysWOW64» folder
3. run cmd.exe
3.1. change current directory to «C:%windows%SysWOW64»
3.2. type «regsvr32 mscomct2.ocx» and [Enter]
4. reboot Windows[*1]
If using 64-bit version of Windows, do as the above. If using 32-bit version of Windows, do as the below.
1. download «MSCOMCT2.OCX»
2. copy it to «C:%windows%System32» folder
3. run cmd.exe
3.1. change current directory to «C:%windows%System32«
3.2. type «regsvr32 mscomct2.ocx» and [Enter]
4. reboot WindowsI’d like to know what you did, if the above does not work.

Hi sph422,
>> I installed «Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Common Controls» and registered «mscomct2.ocx»
Where did you put the «mscomct2.ocx» file? As far as I know, how you register the control depends on the version of Windows (32-bit or 64-bit). In your environment with 64-bit Windows, I’d recommend you try taking the following steps to see the
result:1. Extract the MSCOMCT2.cab you downloaded.
2. Copy the MSCOMCT2.OCX file to C:WindowsSysWoW64:3. Go to StartAll ProgramsAccessories (or searching “Command Prompt” using Cortana), Right-click Command Prompt and then click on Run As Administrator.
4. At the command prompt, type the following and then press Enter and exist:%systemroot%SysWoW64regsvr32.exe mscomct2.ocx
Hope my clarification is clear and feel free to let me know if you need further assistance on this issue.
Best regards,
Yuki Sun

Hello, i´ve tried to install the mscomct2.ocx but couldn´t. Now i´m trying to remove it. Could you help me please?
Everytime i open excel, it pops up a warning «Te file format and extension of «mscomct.ocx» don´t match. The file could be corrupted or unsafe. Unless you trust its source, don´t open it. Do you want to open it anyway?»
If i agree, the next page is full of codes. If not, i can work normally but,the warning bugs me XD

This tip applies to Excel 2007, 2010, and 2013
Ed has three computers at work. One has Excel 2010 with the Date Picker tool but the other two, one with Excel 2010 and one with Excel 2013, do not have this tool available. He wonders how he can load this tool into Excel 2010 and Excel 2013.
According to reports from Microsoft, the traditional date picker tool (called MSCAL.OCX) was shipped with Office 2007, but is not included in later versions of Office. In Office 2010 they have replaced the date picker with an updated version in the Active-X library, called MSCOMCT2.OCX.
You can tell if you already have the new date picker installed by following these steps:
- Display the Developer tab of the ribbon.
- Click the Insert tool. Excel displays a palette of tools you can insert in your worksheet.
- In the ActiveX Controls section of the palette, click the More Controls option. (It is the very bottom-right tool.) Excel displays the More Controls dialog box.
- Scroll through the dialog box until you find the Microsoft Date and Time Picker tool. Select it.
- Click OK.
If the tool doesn’t show up in the More Controls dialog box, then it has not been installed on your system. If you are using a 64-bit version of Office, then you won’t be able to install the control. The reason is because MSCOMCT2.OCX works only on 32-bit systems. (In fact, none of the ActiveX controls work in 64-bit Office. When Microsoft actually comes out with versions of the controls that do work with 64-bit Office, they will likely have different names, a move sure to complicate the life of VBA programmers who rely on the controls.
If you are running a 32-bit version of Office, then you can try to copy the MSCOMCT2.OCX control from a like system and register it with Windows. (Before copying it, do a Windows search to see if the file is actually on your system. If it is, skip copying and just try to register it.)
How you register the control depends on the version of Windows you are using and whether you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of the operating system. (Don’t confuse the number of bits in the operating system with the number of bits in your copy of Office; they are two different things.) A good overview of how to register the control can be found here:

I am working my way through the exercises in a book called Excel 2010 Programming by Example with VBA, XML and ASP.
I am at chapter 19: Creating Custom forms
The first exercise is too create a user form with the ActiveX Date and Time Picker Control.
This control has to be added to the control toolbox from the Additional Control menu — specifically the Microsoft Date and Time Picker Control 6.0. There are many check boxes for additional controls, but
this particular control is not listed.
Apparently a file MSCOMCT2.OCX needs to be registered. I found this file in the folder C:WindowsSysWOW64and registered using the instructions I found at this site:
Access 2010 Datepicker control missing
These were the instructions:
Go to StartAll ProgramsAccessories.
* Right-click Command Prompt and then click on Run As Administrator.
* Change directory to the folder where you extracted the files. For example, type the following and then press Enter: cd c:windowssystem32
* Type the following and then press Enter: regsvr32 mscomct2.ocx
* You should get a message saying this succeeded.
I now have this file in box the WindowsSystem32 folder and the WindowsSysWOW64 and I have registered both, but it still does not show up as an additional control that I can select.
As I mentioned WindowsSysWOW64 already had this file so I downloaded another file from a link suggested in the book:
http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/mscomct2.cab
… and then installed that in WindowsSystem32.
I also have Excel 2010 64 bit installed on my computer but that does not have the Microsoft Date and Time Picker either.
Has anyone else been through this process and know what to do? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
Fastest way to copy a worksheet?
Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging tab for Sheet1 to the right. Excel will make a copy of the worksheet.

That control (and pretty much any non-standard ones) is not available for 64 bit Office. It’s one of the reasons Microsoft doesn’t recommend 64bit Office unless you have a real need to work with very large files.

Alas I do work with large files.
Thanks for replying RoryA. I was starting to think that might be the case. Okay I’ll give up on the ActiveX Date and Time Picker and move on to another exercise. The 64 bit versions of Excel have around for quite a while now, it surprises me that Microsoft hasn’t fixed this by now (this and other issues that one occasionally encounters with 64 bit Excel).

FWIW, I don’t believe they intend to create 64 bit versions of those.
