I have been a primary school teacher for many years and have taught all age groups, specialising in English and later on, special needs. I have recently taken early retirement. I know how busy you are & how hard you work. I aim to produce the resources you would have made yourself, if you had had the time.
If you have bought any of my resources, I would really appreciate it if you would review them. Many thanks!

Loads of activities children can work through on their own using the word book. They check the spellings of animal names in the dictionary, learn to spell the days of the week and months of the year, learn body words and story characters etc. I found that they really enjoyed doing these e.g. when they had finished their work, and they were learning all the time! All fully editable. For further resources see my shop — https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel

Product Description:

Small paper-cover book helps students keep track of new words they are learning. Each page has a letter at the top (in upper & lower case) with an illustration (apple, bee, cat, duck, etc,) lines to write words (either 28 or 56), and a short list of common words that start with that letter in the margins. Some letters get a 2-page spread while others have 1 page per letter. This might be one of those things you keep to look back on as a snapshot of your child’s learning. The low price makes these a great option for a classroom too! Blue cover, 7.5×9″ 28pp ~Sara

This book looks great. I read the reviews. My question is how many pages are in each book. Example: Letter Aa front and back or when you turn the page it goes to the next letter? I need to estimate whether or not this book will take my first graders through the entire school year. Also, what are the dimensions of the book/length and width? Our reading program has 10 unit we introduce 4 to5 new sight words each week.

Thank you,
Nadine V. Savage

Love it!

Simple, we have used it 2 years now. If they are reading and find a word they don’t know or are learning to spell, I have them pull this out and write it down in the correct section to review later on.

What is ‘look, say, trace, cover, write, check’?

The ‘look, say, trace, cover, write, check’ strategy is a spelling strategy taught to children in schools. The My Spelling Workbook encourages this strategy by having the child:

  1. Look at the word
  2. Speak the word out loud
  3. Trace the word out in the workbook
  4. Cover the word with their hand or paper
  5. Then write the word themselves
  6. Check to see if it’s spelt correctly.

This method allows children to take an active multi-sensory approach to their own learning.
