Could Have Been Better
The Words is a story within a story within a story. I absolutely loved the story within the story. A masterful telling of an intriguing situation with wonderful acting and believable emotions that, at both levels, tugged at my heart strings. However, the third level added very little, or should I say distracted from the rest. It was meant to put a twist on the story within the story, to make the viewer think and wonder, but it was mostly a distraction, and the acting was far inferior to the other two levels. The producers should have seen this but instead, they took something great and made it good. Another reviewer said somewhere that negative reviews were from people who «didn’t get it». That’s pretty conceited by them to think that they were the only ones who got it. Trust me, I got it, I just didn’t like it. All that being said, it was still worth watching, if only for the two inner layers.

Hey guys! I’m looking for anything that has the vibe of the l word, especially the OG. I would love queer content, but I’m specifically looking for that 2000s indie LA vibe. I love the focus on friendships, relationships, the city, creative people, etc. The kind of laidback, low budget and messy vibe (mostly in season 1 and 2) I’m also a big fan of. I also love explorations of really complicated and interesting characters like Jenny, Shane and Bette. I’m going to try queer as folk next. I love movies from the late 90s and early 2000s like Chasing Amy, Sideways, Swingers, Chance with Amber Benson, etc. Any other ideas? Anything mainstream or niche is great!
What to know
Neither as clever nor as interesting as it appears to think it is, The Words maroons its talented stars in an overly complex, dramatically inert literary thriller that’s ultimately a poor substitute for a good book.

When shallow wannabe-writer Rory (Bradley Cooper) finds an old manuscript tucked away in a bag, he decides to pass the work off as his own. The book, called «The Window Tears,» brings Rory great acclaim, until the real author (Jeremy Irons) shows up and threatens to destroy Rory’s reputation. Cut to Clayton Hammond (Dennis Quaid), a writer whose popular novel «The Words» seems to mirror Rory’s story, leading to speculation that the tome is Hammond’s thinly veiled autobiography.

«The Words» starts with Clay Hammond(Dennis Quaid) reading from his latest novel that begins with an old man(Jeremy Irons) in the rain. But for the time being the story is more concerned with Rory Jansen(Bradley Cooper) who has just won a literary award. Of course, success did not come easy, as he faced perennial rejection from publishers and agents, having to borrow money from his father(J.K. Simmons) on more than one occasion. So, eventually Rory gives up after a fashion and gets a real job and marries his girlfriend Dora(Zoe Saldana). After which, they decide to honeymoon in Paris.
«The Words» is a good look at the randomness of success.(Otherwise, we already knew that writers are a bunch of egotistical bastards.) But unlike a lot of other movies, this should have been longer in giving more depth to some of the characters, especially Dora. Otherwise, the first two acts set up an intriguing story. It’s the third act where the movie in trying to answer every conceivable question starts to break down. Now whether that’s the movie’s fault or Clay’s fault is up for debate.(That flirtation with meta weirdness I think saves the movie from itself.) What’s not up for debate is Jeremy Irons’ weird performance as just past the age of 60 he ironically has no idea how to play an old man. However, I would like to go on the record and say I would pay good money to hear Dennis Quaid read from the phone book.

The film was good but could have been so much better. I love the style of the film of a story within a story structure. I do like that they create a puzzle hear for the audience to put together, however, my problem with the film is the ending. The ending was a huge disappointment. I felt like the film was building up to a huge revelation about how all the characters are linked together and the ending was like a curveball. The ending raised more questions than answering any of them. The acting was good. I thought Bradley’s character reminded me too much of his character from Limitless.

The ability to write should be first among the qualifications required to write a movie about a writer… but all through this film, all I could think was, «No one involved with this film has ever written anything!» And the attempt to lean on narration — it’s like the book you’re reading! — falls completely flat, as it’s never quite clear who is supposed to be narrating, or (of course) who would read a book were it this badly written. I’d recommend You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger well before this one, which has a similar plot but comes from Woody Allen, who may have written a thing or two before the present movie.
I really like the premise, and the talented cast does its best with this disastrous script, but unfortunately The Words is much more about the idea of being a writer than it is a believable story of anything a writer might think/want/do.

There is virtually nothing that works in this convoluted, nonsensical and terribly-written drama in which not even the visuals escape the artificial and clichéd, and so everything is a complete failure, from the expository narration to the ridiculous story-within-a-story-within-a-story structure.

Most people have trouble grasping the concept of love. The word has countless definitions and descriptions, but none of them are able to nail down the precise meaning of the term. Every one of us has been curious about what it is, and films about it have amused and inspired us. However, there are a few incidents etched in human history that come close to explaining the nebulous nature of romantic love.
Krickitt Carpenter’s tragic love story may have been written by fate to be shown on screen. Kim, Krickitt’s husband, takes it upon himself to restore her normal life after a car accident robbed her of her recent memories. ‘The Vow,’ directed by Michael Sucsy and starring Leo and Paige Collins, was a tearjerker that perfectly captured the couple’s happy moments. The storm’s aftermath was harrowing, and the audience empathized with the distraught husband’s struggle to reclaim his wife’s memories. In addition to being an emotional tale, Paige’s is a journey for the brave as she struggles to make sense of her current situation and her desperate attempts to do so.
To be honest, the entire movie was built on a shaky script, with several scenes that could have been handled better. Tatum and McAdams’ on-screen chemistry was one of the movie’s major talking points, and they took it upon themselves to give an unforgettable performance. ‘The Vow,’ in the words of film critic Roger Ebert, is a perfect movie for a date night. So it’s no surprise that during Valentine’s Week in 2012, couples flocked to the movies in record numbers, making this film a box office smash. We’ve done our best to compile a list of films that we think are comparable to The Vow and, therefore, worthy of your consideration. In case you’re interested, Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Hulu may be able to stream some of these films, such as The Vow.
16. The Beauty Inside (2015)
Woo-jin is a unique human being in that he has a different body every day he awakens. He can be a child one day and an old woman the next. He has no idea what tomorrow will bring, but he has devised a plan to keep on living in the shadows of society. He does, however, fall head over heels in love with Yi-soo at some point. It’s now up to him whether or not to tell her the truth… “The Beauty Inside” is an engrossing story about how to go after what you want in life despite the challenges you face. This film not only has a unique and captivating plot, but it is also beautifully shot and edited. It’s a romantic drama like no other, thanks to stellar performances, an unforgettable score, and a captivating setting.
15. While You Were Sleeping (1995)
Commuter Lucy has a crush on Peter, a man who walks by her window every day. In the event that she sees him being robbed and injured, she steps in to save his life by transporting him to the nearest hospital. However, when Peter’s family believes that Lucy is engaged to him, things become more complicated. The romantic comedy “While You Were Sleeping” is one of the most endearing films ever made. To begin with, it tells an original and heartwarming love story. Second, Sandra Bullock steals the show throughout the film, shining and commanding your attention at all times. Last but not least, it sends a powerful message about the value of family and love in our lives.
14. About Time (2013)
Tim, a twenty-one-year-old college student, discovers he has the ability to go back in time and alter the events of his own life. Getting a girlfriend, which he believes will improve his life, has unintended consequences. Curtis’ “About Time” is a charming, sweet movie with surprising depth and heart. It’s witty and intelligent. Along with the time travel plot, the film also focuses on Tim and his father’s relationship as well as Tim’s romance with Mary. Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson are in it.
13. Love Actually (2003)
We follow the daily activities of eight couples in this film. “Love Actually,” which takes place in the month leading up to Christmas in London, is all about finding love and losing it, as well as meeting the right people and making the wrong choices. The cast, which included Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Keira Knightly, and Martin Freeman, worked tirelessly to make this film a success. It’s a great storyline for a romantic comedy, but it wouldn’t be the same without the talented cast. “Love Actually” is a great movie to watch with your significant other to unwind and unwind.
12. Take This Waltz (2011)
Margot meets Daniel, a handsome stranger, on a plane. Before long, Daniel and Margot discover that they live next door to one another, and Margot also reveals that her husband is a liar. Margot isn’t sure if she’s happy in her marriage after that summer. An impressive romantic comedy was made by director Sarah Polley and stars Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen. The director clearly aimed for realism and humanity with the film’s twist ending. And it’s safe to say she pulled it off. That works because it is a character-driven film, an examination of human emotion and behavior.
11. Grease (1978)
There is much controversy in Danny’s (John Travolta) friends’ groups when he falls in love with Sandy (Olivia Newton-John), a quiet new girl in school. “Grease” will transport you back to the 1950s like no other film ever could. More stars, like Olivia Newton-John and Stockard Channing join John Travolta in making this a star-studded blockbuster.
10. Made of Honor (2008)
For the past ten years, Tom and Hannah have been friends on the platonic level. Tom offers to be Hannah’s “maid of honor” when she gets engaged. He agrees, albeit reluctantly, so that he can try to thwart the wedding and win her over. The romantic comedy you’ve been looking for is right here! The film is funny and entertaining, despite the predictable ending and the presence of some genre tropes. It’s rare to see a romantic comedy with a male protagonist.
9. Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)
Bridget Jones is a typical woman who is battling her advancing years, her burgeoning weight, and her oppressive boss at work. Bridget resolves to start a diary as a New Year’s resolution to gain more control over her life. We accompany her on this journey as she confronts love. This classic love story, adapted from the bestselling novel of the same name, should be seen by every moviegoer at least once. Despite this, the film manages to be unique, hilarious, and endearing all at the same time. This role would have been impossible to cast anyone else but Renee Zellweger. Grant and Firth are both excellent in their roles.
8. The Spectacular Now (2013)
As a charming and self-possessed high school senior with no plans for the future, Sutter Keely lives in the here and now. Aimee Finecky appears to be hovering over Sutter after he is dumped by his girlfriend. That “nice girl” who enjoys science fiction but doesn’t have a boyfriend stands out from the crowd. They’re attracted to each other despite their differences. Drama for teenagers, “The Spectacular Now” portrays them as complex and intelligent individuals. Despite the fact that some may find it tediously slow, this is an excellent film that avoids stereotypes and cheap tricks. With Milles Teller, Shailene Woodley, and Brie Larson leading the cast, it’s sure to be entertaining.
7. The First Time (2012)
At a friend’s house party, Dave (Dylan O’Brien), a self-assured teenager, meets Aubrey (a talented artist) (Britt Robertson). It’s the story of how they fall in love for the first time over the course of a single weekend in “The First Time”. It’s a story about first love and the confusion that comes with it. Additionally, this film has a fantastic soundtrack, which allows each song to shine when it’s needed the most. That’s why the film has such a broad appeal to audiences all over the world.
6. Love, Rosie (2014)
Rosie and Alex have been best friends since they were five years old.
