Recently Microsoft came up with some updates that caused many users to get an error message saying “Microsoft Office Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application.” when you try to run it. After clicking the OK button, Microsoft Word closes. You’ll also be getting the same error message if you try to run any of the other office components such as Excel, Publisher, Access, Outlook etc. The worst part is uninstalling Microsoft Office and re-installing wouldn’t help to fix this problem. Before doing the above, you should at least use the official Microsoft Office Diagnostics tool to check if it has detected any other known problems.
There’s a Microsoft Knowledge Base article on this issue and the solution is to give EVERYONE full control of the Opa11.dat file. Unfortunately this solution would only help to fix the problem when the non-administrative user accounts on the computer do not have permission to modify specific files that are used by the Office 2003 Setup program or the Office XP Setup program.
Another reason why this problem occurs is you have been knowingly or unknowingly using a pirated version of Microsoft Office and have recently installed the latest updates. Some people are able to resolve this issue by using system restore to go back to an earlier restore point, but here’s a simpler way to fix this problem.
The file that is causing this error is MSO.DLL located at:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedOffice10
for Office XP,
C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedOffice11
for Office 2003 and
C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedOffice12
for Office 2007.
64-bit users can look in “Program Files (x86)Common Files…” for the dll. Microsoft has updated this file and it was distributed in one of the hotfixes to give you this error message when it detects a pirated copy of Office that is installed on your computer. When you try to run a repair or even uninstallation, the setup won’t touch the MSO.DLL file at all. That is why after repairing or uninstalling, you’ll still get the same error because the updated MSO.DLL is still there.
The simple solution is to search for the file MSO.DLL on your computer and copy the older MSO.DLL file replacing the current one in Program Files. I found two versions of MSO.DLL in C:WINDOWSInstaller$PatchCache$Managed…..
If you can’t find the other backed up MSO.DLL file on your computer, it is available in uncompressed form on the Office 2003 CD but not the Office XP or 2007 CD’s because they’re packed inside a CAB file. Navigate to:
{Drive}FilesPfilesCommonMSSharedOffice11
Or you can simply delete all the currently installed MSO.DLL files from Program Files and $PatchCache$ etc, then perform a repair or reinstallation of Microsoft Office XP, 2003 or 2007. That would restore the older version of MSO.DLL from the installation CD for you.
If you are struggling to find an original MSO.DLL from a computer search or your Office CD, the easiest thing to do is download one of the zip files below which contains the correct original version of the MSO.DLL file to copy onto your system. These files aren’t downloaded from elsewhere on the internet and are taken straight from the relevant Office CD, simply unzip the file and copy it to the correct folder in “Microsoft SharedOfficeXX” given above.
Download MSO.DLL for Office XP.
Download MSO.DLL for Office 2003
Download MSO.DLL for Office 2007
Download MSO.DLL for Office 2010
Download MSO.DLL for Office 2013
We know pirating software is bad, but Microsoft has started to teach pirates a lesson by giving such annoyances as the Windows XP Black Screen to some users who may not even realize that they have a pirated version of Office installed by a computer shop?

Error — Microsoft Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup I tried to use this solution from official webpage: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/…0%2C5762329043 . Meanwhle Application Data folder is not visible anyway except I put full path in command line of Windows Explorer. I tried to change permissions for Data.dat (I use Windows xp). But when I change folder properties — to set Make visible hidden folders/files and to clear hide extensions.,when I click apply and OK and when check properties again this changes is not saved. So when I right click Data.dat i just see elementary options — no advanced options, no security tab etc. How can I solve this issues? If i delete Data.dat nothing changes and happens. Can I set correct content of data.dat or download from internet? So how to see advanced settings and security of data.dat, how make visible hidden folders permanently?// this question relates to Excell, Access, Power Point |

When trying to use right click of folder of Data.dat to make visible hidden folder/files and clear permission — I do it — but such settings is sated. So when I try do it again it repeat again so I am not able probably to change permissions to solve this issue as it is provided in microsoft online tutorial on it. So what I should do make hidden folders visible at least «temporarily permanent»? |

You don’t need to make the folders visible to do this, but you do need to make the changes using an account with Administrator privileges. You should be able to navigate to the required folder simply by pasting:

Yes I was able to get to this file just pasting full path to folder in adress line. But right click on the file to don allow to see and edit permissions. There were written that just to delete this file will allow to launch new such configuration file after restart of computer but it did not happen. And my PC have just one account and it is labeled as administrator despite have another name. Maybe I need to put strictly Administrator in appropriate menu to Turn off the pc — I just checked just this account after clicking Change User. Maybe in safe mode I can do something? If not — how to solve it? Reinstall the word or manually edit data.dat but when I open it there is some unknown characters? |

I got to Administrator itself account throug the safe mode. But there is just such properties of data.dat (as in early case) as Read-only, hidden, and archive. So archive is marked but checking something else do not change probably nothing. Meanwhile in safe mode with administrator I am able to open Word, excel normally. So I am probably have some tools missed after clearing the account folder. So I need probably edit file manually? Or at least enable administrator account? |

When I added guest account and the shifted to it after restart of OS i opened normally microsoft word. So what I need to do to open in my administrator-like account. For example I need to recover about hundreds of my mozilla bookmarks that I can not do even in this case. Maybe I did not told. This situation came after I cleared my current and previous account folder in C:Documents and Setting directory againts the invisible disk space. For example the folder had in properties about 800 mb but all containing files and folders (maybe I was not able to make visible all folders) took just 80 mb. So in this way after copying this 80 mb to another disk, deleting folder at all, then creating empty folder with the same name and putting back these actual 80 mb I substantially freed my C disk but probably lost some important settings in hidden files. |

So how to solve it? |

It would help if you actually followed the instructions on the MS website. They do not say to boot into Safe Mode. Neither do they suggest you will «need to recover about hundreds of my mozilla bookmarks» or that any of your other data will be at risk because of this.

I can not get permission properties of that file. That is issue. Maybe i deleted something? |
09-13-2016, 06:49 PM |
You can access & edit the permissions if you log on as an Administrator; other users may only be able to access but not edit the permissions.

When I managed to log as administrator in safe mode (despite my current account has administrator) I was unable to get permission tab by right click of Data.dat file. All were the same as in earlier case. Despite under administrator account in safe mode as in guest account (I have created) in normal mode, I can freely use Microsoft Word and other office ones. But under current account in safe and normal mode I get the error. So maybe I need manually write this account in Data.dat. There are about dozen lines in this file despite the latina-like text with some strange characters is not understandable. So administrator and guest are allowed to use it so maybe I need to recover some other file so permission capability. I have probably deleted it after cleaning account folder for additional space? |

As I have said before, you should not be using Safe Mode for this. Neither can you do it with a guest account.

I tried it in safe mode earlier. I did not try to make visible the hidden files despite i am able to see data.dat by direct input of relevant path of the folder. I have written several times that right click almost is blank except archive, hidden checkers |

I think I’ve wasted enough time on this. You clearly have not paid attention to what the MS website says to do. Thread closed.

Please follow the directions below and it will all be good again in no time.
1. Log on to system as local administrator
2. Open My computer and change the view (under tools > Folder Options > View) to show hidden files and folders.
3. Now change directory to C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataMicrosoftOfficeData
4. Delete the files OPA12.dat & OPA12.bak (in some computers you may see OPA11 instead of OPA12. That is okay delete whatever 11 or 12 that you see there)
5. Restart the Word Program.
6. It will install and recreate those files (which got corrupted) again.
7. At the end please don’t forget to change the View of the files to HIDE the hidden files and folder on step 2.

Hello,
Like many other RoboHelp users, I get the following error message when I try to generated a «Printed documentation» output :
«Microsoft® Word has not been started on this computer.
Launch Word and click the ‘Start using Microsoft® Word’ option before generating Printed Documentation again.»
I use RoboHelp 2015 (12.0.4.460) and Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 32-bit (version 14.0.7194.5000).
I have read the previous topics and tried the following things :
— run both RoboHelp and Word as an administrator
— run the winword /r command
— launch my project from a local folder (by default my «My document» folder is stored on a network drive)
I don’t have Open Office installed. Word has been installed before RoboHelp. Macros are enabled in Trust Center.
Thank your in advance for your help
