Old school means something close to old-fashioned, but it’s a term with more pride behind it. If someone says, “I’m old school,” they’re saying they do it like it used to be done, which they believe was a better way. У олдскульного фотографа найдётся десяток старых фотоаппаратов, среди которых обязательно будет «Зенит» или «Киев», свои снимки он печатает дедовским способом при помощи фотоувеличителя, а проявляет в ванночке неизвестно где добытыми реактивами. Любители делать по тысяче селфи в день пожмут плечами. Вроде бы и в самом деле, зачем такие мучения? Но хорошее олдскульное фото можно рассматривать подолгу и не один раз.
Олдскульный художник будет писать картину теми красками, которые были в ходу в ту эпоху, стиль которой он хотел бы передать. Олдскульная группа не станет неумело делать кальку со старых шлягеров, для неё главное – создать шедевр в старом стиле, будь то метал, классический рок, диско или хип-хоп.
Олдскульная одежда – это не завалявшаяся в бабушкином сундуке потрёпанная фуфайка, а вот футболка и шорты времён Вудстока – это вполне олдскульно. При этом неважно, сохранились ли они с тех времён, или были сшиты вновь, но из тех же материалов и того же покроя, что были тогда в моде.
Олдскульный меломан не пройдёт мимо виниловой пластинки или кассетного магнитофона, если его можно отреставрировать до идеального состояния.
История возникновения
Впервые слово олдскул прозвучало в музыкальном сленге в 70-е годы и относился к музыкальному стилю олд скул хип хоп, у истоков которого стоял Клив Кэмпбелл. В отличие от современного рэпа, в том хип-хопе старой школы с упрощённым речитативом социальную направленность можно было встретить довольно редко. В основном упор делался на воспевание «старых добрых времён». Слово стало модным в молодёжной среде уже в XXI веке и уже относилось не только к музыке.
Хотя словосочетание употреблялось в английском языке давно, и о художниках старой школы можно было услышать ещё в XVIII–XIX веках.
Ну и напоследок, стоит ли обижаться, если вас назвали олдскулом? Зависит от интонации. Если в нём звучат нотки восхищения, даже с оттенком недопонимания, то этим можно гордиться. А вот в случае если в нём звучит пренебрежение, то может и стоит задуматься, не пора ли идти в ногу со временем. Хотя настоящему олдскулу это всё безразлично, для него главное – его субъективное отношение к вещи или явлению, а не отношение к ней окружающих.
