Longest word in a movie

The longest English word is a video in the Beluga cinematic universe.

Synopsis

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis?

Plot

Beluga asked Ms. White what is the longest word, which jokes is cat and smiles, with cat joking he is dumb and smiles joking there is a mile between the S’s, which makes Ms. White pretty mad. Skittle (who in this video is «Nerd Skittle») states the real longest word, which is Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, but Ms. White now asks him to turn it into a sentence, so he makes up a really bad sentence. Beluga reveals that there exists an even longer word, which she doubts. Beluga then makes a random word with letters and emojis, which Ms. White claims is false since it is not in the dictionary. Therefore, Beluga asks Hecker to hack the dictionary, which he does.

Beluga and Hecker then decide to hack new words. First, Beluga wants Hecker to add Beluga, but since it was in there as a whale, Beluga asks Hecker for the meaning to be HIM, and so Hecker does it despite some doubt, and all the Beluga whales in the world turn into «Sussy Cat» that look like Beluga. Skittle-Chan also wants to be in, so Hecker adds her as the «Most annoying Creature in existence» and added that she had died that day, and he also added Eugene (as an egg). Ms. White questioned if he was hacking the dictionary, and so they decided to put her mom in jail, so she sent them to the office, which they changed to mean Disney World and as such, went to Disney World.

Ms. White threatens them, but they just ignore her and delete the space bars, which made everyone speak weird. Ms. White told them to stop, but they just ignored her and kept working on deleting things. They then «accidentally» deleted the word «Humanity» from the dictionary, which resulted in the destruction of all the humans of Earth. Beluga then got the idea to delete the dictionary, and although Hecker was a bit reluctant, he agreed, which destroyed everyone and all the words of Earth, leaving everything blank.

The Message was: «The tongue has no bones but it is strong enough to break a heart»

Next week I’m in Oxford doing a bit of filming for The One Show with my friend Susie Dent, the genius lexicographer who presides over Dictionary Corner on Countdown on Channel 4.  I’ve been a guest in Dictionary Corner many times — more times, I think, than anyone else.  In the early days of the programme, in the 1980s, other Dictionary Corner regulars included Ted Moult, Kenneth Williams, Derek Nimmo, Ned Sherrin and Russell Harty.  I’ve stories to tell about each of them, which I must get round to one day.   Meanwhile, here’s a bit of word play to amuse you on your way to work — or to sleep.

The shortest English word that contains all the vowels is eunoia. It means beautiful thinking, and I think it is a rather beautiful word.   In a recent survey, the word voted the ‘most liked’ in the language was lullaby.  Here’s what I know about long words.  If I’ve got any of this wrong, Susie can put me right when I see her.

Geekologie suggests having a contest with your friends to see who can watch the video the longest without bashing their head on their desk.

I made it nine minutes before skipping ahead to see if the video is all the same. After about three minutes it all starts to sound the same and from what we can tell the guy doesn’t even get up to go to the bathroom or get a drink of water and he manages to stay awake. As he finished he doesn’t seem excited and when he finally says the last syllable he doesn’t sigh, he just stares blankly into the camera and then stands up and walks out of frame.

However, the title of world’s longest word may be up for debate. Lexicographers consider chemical compounds to be verbal formulae instead of actual English words. The longest English word that appears in a dictionary is the 45-letter pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. It is alleged to mean «a lung disease caused by inhaling very fine ash and sand dust,» according to Oxford Dictionaries. Scientists now just refer to it as P45.

The longest non-technical non-coined word in the English language hasn’t changed since I learned this word when I was in elementary school. Antidisestablishmentarianism is 28 letters long and refers to a 19th century political movement that opposed the disestablishment of the Church of England, according to Oxford.

The longest non-technical, coined word is Floccinaucinihilipilification. It is 29 letters long and is a noun meaning «the action or habit of estimating something as worthless,» according to the dictionary.

As for the longest word, the video, which is now going viral, may be best used for helping to fall asleep.

The longest word in the English language is 189,819 letters long. The longest word video lasts a little longer than three-and-a-half hours.

According to io9, the longest word depicted in the video isn’t actually a word. Instead, it’s a verbal formula for the name of titin, a protein that is responsible for the elasticity in muscles.

So no, this word doesn’t get spoken too often. Mainly because it takes a little over 3 hours to say.

Here’s a portion of the word:

“Methionylalanylthreonylserylarginylglycylalanylserylarginylcysteinylproly.”

That’s only the very first segment of the word. You’d have to say that (or something similar) approximately 878 more times to completely say the longest word in the world. That’s a lot of work. Thankfully someone has posted a video of someone else saying the longest word.

The 189,819 letter word has never appeared, and for good reason, in the dictionary. According to Fun With Words, the longest word to appear in the Oxford English Dictionary is the 45-letter word Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. It’s a fictional word that was coined by Everett Smith in 1935 to describe a peculiar long disease. Smith, who was the President of The National Puzzlers’ League, coined the word specifically to become the longest word in the dictionary.

But that word only takes a few seconds to say. The longest word video lasts for more than three hours.

(It’s pretty much the same thing over and over again. The one “exciting” part in the video occurs at the two hour and nine minute mark.)
