Object of the Game
Your goal is to be the first player to make it to the finish on the deck board.
Number of Players: 2-8
Time: 30 Min
Age: 8+
Setup
Place the two boards within easy reach of players.
Players then choose their colored pawns and place them on the start image of the left board.
After shuffling the deck of cards, arrange them, and place them in their appropriate spots on the deck board.
Gameplay
Switch on the buzzer at the back and place next to the deck board.
Each player is given one Trade-in token and also draws one subject card from the top of the deck. The player then looks at it and keeps it hidden from the other players.
A letter is also drawn from the deck and placed face down for all to see. Players will then try to come up with words that match the letter on the card.
The player comes up with a subject, places its face up, reads it for the other players to hear, names a word that fits the category, and switches on the buzzer.
The player who came up with the word and the other players as well will then try to come up with a word that fits the letter and the category.
The last player to say a word that fits the category played at the beep of the buzzer will move his or her pawn one space ahead of the others.
New round
The player that drew the subject card will draw it again with a new letter and the procedure repeats itself again.
Jumpstart challenge
Any player can call up a jump start challenge for the other players. To do so, say the word “JUMP START” and press the timer without drawing a subject card.
Players using their current category, and letter from the previous round will then have to come up with a new word before the timer ends. If they are able, they move two spaces ahead. If not, the Jumpstart challenger moves two spaces ahead.
You can trade-in your trade-in token cards to discard your current subject card for a new one.
Rules for acceptable words
- Repeated words are not allowed.
- Only real words are allowed. So, the legitimacy of a word can be challenged.
- Words said midway when the timer buzzes are not accepted.
Dealing with difficult subject cards
You can take some pity on any player who happens to have a very difficult subject card so they can draw a new one.

Like any married couple from time-to-time we’ll argue. My wife is one of those “last word” type of people. Not because she thinks she’s right, but because she doesn’t want me to think she didn’t hear me. Usually she’s just repeating what I’ve just said, and that’s because I’m always right. Our latest $2.38 purchase from the thrift shop is a best-seller from Buffalo Games aptly named “Last Word”. Right from the start I’ll bet you can guess who’ll be the queen of this game! You have to love people that never even try out a game and donate it with cards still wrapped and pieces sealed in their original bag! Even the battery for the timer is fresh!
This is another game where there are no turns; everyone plays at the same time. Each person draws a “Subject Card” to get a category in which they have to think of answers that fit. One person turns over a “Letter Card” which determines what letter the word must start with. The first person to say a word starting with that letter from THEIR category hits the timer (which has a random length). Everyone must now start yelling out other words starting with the same letter from the starting category until the timer buzzes. The person who said the last legitimate word moves ahead one space.
If you get a particularly hard letter that no one seems to be able to name a word from their category, you can claim “Jump Start” and hit the timer. Now everyone must rush to think of that one word from their category before the timer goes off. The first player to say their word moves ahead one space. If no one is successful, then the challenging player moves ahead two!
For the record, I got the last “Last Word” in to win the game!
A very straight-forward game that has sold over one million copies since its release ten years ago. In 2007 it received the Seal of Approval from The National Parenting Center. Designed for 2-8 people and ages 8 and up, it’ll be a nice party game that is easily played without needing any strategy. Odd, I was sure I’d left a comment here.Anyway, I reemmber seeing these when I was a kid, but never bothered to get them— any money I had which might have gone towards them seemed better spent on more NES games, or Ninja Turtles figures, or other stuff in general.Still, I’m glad to see what I missed out on at the time. How to play Wordle

2. You have six tries to guess the five-letter Wordle of the day.
3. Type in your guess and submit your word by hitting the “enter” key on the Wordle keyboard.
4. The color of the tiles will change after you submit your word. A yellow tile indicates that you picked the right letter but it’s in the wrong spot. The green tile indicates that you picked the right letter in the correct spot. The gray tile indicates that the letter you picked is not included in the word at all.
5. Continue until you solve the Wordle or run out of guesses. Good luck!
Tips and Tricks from Wordlers
Start with the same word every time.
Although it doesn’t come with a guaranteed success rate, starting with the same word every time can give you a baseline strategy for every game. Eventually, you might pick the right word on your first try. Redditors, TikTokers and YouTubers have even done statistical analyses on letter frequency, so you can use their data as a resource.
Or, start with a new word every time.
Mix it up and try something new each game. This is the strategy of the author John Green. “My Wordle strategy is to begin each puzzle with a word I have never previously used,” Green said in an email. “I know this is not the ideal strategy, or even a good one, but I like it,” he added. “I usually get it in four, which is perfect for me because the stress of the fifth and sixth guess is almost unbearable.”
Start with a word that has a lot of vowels.
Some Wordle players have found success in starting with a word that has several vowels in it. “Adieu,” “audio” or “canoe,” for instance, may be good words to start with because at least three out of the five letters are vowels.
Pick two very different words for the first two lines.
Following your first guess with a word that contains entirely different letters may help you find success in Wordle because part of the game is about the process of elimination.
Use a database for five-letter words.
While some people may call this cheating, others might call it just a little assistance. If you’re stumped and can’t think of a solid five-letter word, you can use a database like Best Word List to help you brainstorm.
Watch out for letters that might show up more than once.
Just because your green tile appeared in one spot doesn’t mean it won’t appear elsewhere. “I remember there was a lot of annoyance on Twitter when ‘knoll’ was the word,” Dan Sanderson of Seattle said. “It’s one of the few aspects of varietal difficulty we get in Wordle’s word choices — even if they’re relatively common words. A repeated letter does make your guesses less efficient because it’s hiding information from you.”
Go old school and break out a pen and paper.
Or, go back to the basics. “If I feel like I’m stuck, instead of looking at the interface, I just take a piece of paper and write out the word with the blank spots, which are the letters that I still need to guess,” said Paola Tamma, a 29-year-old reporter who lives in Brussels. Instead of reusing letters that you know are grayed out, try taking a step back and placing a filler letter, such as “X,” in the blank tile. You never know what word may pop out at you.
Use your guess stats to inform your strategy.
Take a look at your statistics after you finish a game, and use the data to improve your Wordle strategy. Your statistics board will show the number of games you played, your percentage of wins, your current streak and your longest streak. Focus on the guess distribution. If you’re starting with the same word every time and it’s not panning out, kickoff tomorrow’s Wordle with a new word. Plus, practice makes perfect.
Try out “hard mode” for an extra challenge.
Wordle’s hard mode adds a rule to make the game slightly more difficult. Once players have found a correct letter in a word — yellow or green — those letters must be used in their subsequent guesses. “That actually restricts your ability to search for more information,” Sanderson said. This can help you solve your game in fewer guesses, but narrows down the word list significantly.
Sanderson added that hard mode is indeed harder, but it forces you to stare at the keyboard longer and not backtrack to letters you’ve already used. And when you share your wins, your hard mode score comes with an asterisk to prove you tried that extra twist.
Claim your bragging rights by sharing your scores on social media or in a group text.
Once you’ve found the word of the day, there’s no shame in sharing your score on social media, with your friends in group texts or anywhere else you want to brag. Click “Share” after your game ends, and copy and paste your green and yellow squares on whatever platform you’d like. The squares that appear are from your Wordle guesses that day.

Object of the Game
Be the first player to move your pawn from Start to finish by racing opponents — and the random timer — to say the last word.
All players shout out words that fit Subject and Letter Cards in each round. The last player to call out a correct item before the timer buzzes scores!
Setup

Place the two gameboards and timer in the center of the playing area so they are equally accessible to all players.

Switch the timer to the «ON» position located on the underside of the unit.

Have each player choose a colored pawn and place it on the Start space of the Scoring Gameboard.

Separate the Letter and Subject Cards, shuffle each deck separately, and place them face-down on their respective areas of the Card Stacking Gameboard. These piles form the Letter draw pile and Subject draw pile.

Have all players take one card from the top of the Subject Card draw pile. Each player reads his card silently and keeps the content of the card hidden from other players.
Game Play

To start a round, any player turns over the top Letter Card, reads it aloud, and places it face-up on the space provided. 7//? is a Hot POTdTO card, skip to the next section to see how to play those rounds.

ALL PLAYERS now try to come up with a word that starts with the letter and fits the category of the Subject Card they are holding.

The first person who sets their Subject Card face-up on the Card Stacking Gameboard reads it aloud and calls out something that starts with the current letter and fits the subject.
That player then IMMEDIATELY starts the random-interval timer by pressing the button!

There are no turns. All players (including the one who pressed the timer) now simultaneously blurt out any other words starting with the letter and fitting the subject.

Players continue saying words until the timer buzzes. Repeat words do not count.

The last player to completely finish saying a valid word before the timer buzzes wins the round and advances their pawn one space on the gameboard, towards Finish. If the timer buzzes while someone is in the middle of a word, that response does not count and the previous valid word scores.

The player who played his or her Subject Card draws a new one.

A new round begins with any player turning over the next Letter Card. If this draw pile runs out. shuffle all face-up Letter Cards to form a new one.
The first player to advance to the Finish space wins the game!
Hot Potato Cards;
When a 
Letter Card appears, play changes for that round.
How to Play a Hot Potato Round:

When a Letter Card marked HOT POTATO is turned over. ALL PLAYERS still try to play the Subject Card they are holding as in a normal round.

Also as in a normal round, the first person who sets their Subject Card face-up on the Card Stacking Gameboard reads it aloud and calls out a word that starts with the current letter and fits the subject.
That player then IMMEDIATELY starts the random-interval timer by pressing the button — the game of HOT POTATO begins!

Players now take turns in a clockwise order! The player to the left of whoever started the HOT POTATO round now quickly says a valid word that fits the current letter and subject.
After that person says something valid, play IMMEDIATELY passes to the next player on the left.

Play continues to move clockwise until time expires.

When the timer buzzes, whosever turn it was losing the round and moves their pawn backward one space on the gameboard, towards Start. Players can never move back past the Start space.

Play returns to normal when the next Letter Card is turned over — unless it is also a Hot Potato card.
Challenges
Inevitably, one of your friends will try to pull a fast one and slip in a completely bogus word or play a Subject Card without already having an item in mind. It is the group’s job to keep them in line.
Don’t believe «Somewhere with Tall Buildings» is a valid U.S. city? Speak up! Any response can be challenged by the group and majority rules. If the bogus word was the Last Word, the last valid response wins the round.
Strategy
There isn’t any! If you knew how much time you had each round, you could try to wait until the last moment to blurt out words in hopes of winning. BUT the Last Word timer is unpredictable, so just keep blurting out words and hope for the best!
Difficult Subject Card
Sometimes a player will end up with a Subject Card that just isn’t hitting the spot.
If someone is holding on to a card for a long time and can’t come up with a word during a bunch of rounds, take pity on them and let them draw a new Subject Card.

Editor’s Verdict
Despite being relatively easy to understand, on the night the game was reviewed we played it in a slightly different way. Essentially, this game does get you thinking. You need to be quick and you need to play tactically. The premise is simple, and because of this the £13 price tag is on the steep side, but the competition element brings everyone together. Despite the suggested players of 2-8, we discovered that upwards of 4 would make the game less enjoyable, due to the amount of conflict created with everyone speaking at the same time.
IN ONE WORD: ‘Engaging’.
HIT, MISS OR MAYBE: ‘Maybe’ – it is worth trying but it might be at the bottom of the games pile after a few rounds.
VERDICT: 3/5.
