Isaiah 50:4 To have the tongue of the learned is to speak the oracles of God and to give a word in season. We can only have a word in season if we have a fresh relationship with God. Jesus had this quality as seen in Isaiah 11:1-3. As Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, the Holy Spirit fell on him and he was anointed with the seven spirits of God. These are the Spirit of the Lord, Spirit of wisdom, Spirit of understanding, Spirit of counsel, Spirit of might, Spirit of knowledge and Spirit of the fear of the Lord.
Luke 4:3-4 The Word of the Lord should be like our daily bread; it should be taken each day. This is what Esther did. She asked for people to pray for her and so the presence of God was strong in her life. The Holy Spirit was there to lead her and great deliverance came upon the Jews. She gave her request portion by portion before the king as the Spirit led her. Acts 6:1-3 teaches us that each member should be taught and led in the ways of God. All the more deacons should have a heart to serve the Lord and they should also be filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom. This is important because they should also have a word in season.
Examples of different words in season
I will provide – Genesis 22:14
It grants rest to a person receiving it from God. The Lord doesn’t just provide material things. He provides healing, joy, peace, and much more. He is our Jehovah Jireh. Everything that we need is in Him.
You will meet someone – Mark 14:13-15
That person you meet will facilitate something that you need. He will bring about ease in the things that needs to be accomplished within the day.
Who is on the Lord’s side – Exodus 32:26
Which side are we in? Are we in our own side? In one’s side? Or in God’s? We have to assess our lives. We have to realize how much we are following the Lord.
I love you – Jeremiah 31:1-3
God declared that he loved Israel with an everlasting love. When they followed the desires of their heart, God had brought the enemies of Israel within her gates when she forsook the Lord. Hebrews 12:3-7 – Our hardships are nothing compared to what Christ has been through. Therefore, we should endure chastening because God is dealing with us as His children. Chastening is important so that our hearts will go back to him. So even at the point where we cannot feel the presence of God because of issues in our lives, He will still assure us of His love for us.
Sharpen up! – Ecclesiastes 10:10
This happens when we become dull because we were relaxed due to blessings. Hebrews 5:11-12 – There is a need to study the word of God more so that we will be sharpened up. We should also be sharper in hearing the word of God.
Love your wife – Ephesians 5:25-27
Learn to direct your spouse/wife with the word of God so that it would not sound harsh. Husbands should love their wife as Jesus gave His life for the church.
Oops – I Timothy 5:1-2,19
These are considerations for one another. It teaches us to be kind and gracious to all. David knew how to deal even with a cruel leader such as Saul. He called him as “My father.” He wouldn’t lift up his hand towards the Lord’s anointed.
Arise in Spirit – II Timothy 2:4
We allow the Spirit of the Lord to arise and we bring down our soul. If God heralds us on to arise, we should obey and engage into warfare for ourselves or for others. Turmoil is increasing in these days and we cannot just react with our souls. Let us allow God to arise and give us a heart that will respond and an ear that will hear.
Ptr. John Fianza
