If you enjoyed this exercise, I’ve now produced a similar, second future tenses exercise, here. You can also find many more exercises in the book below.
In English, there are several ways to speak about actions happening in the future. Depending on different factors you can use Present Simple, Continuous, be going to, Future Simple and even more types of tenses. Younger learners are usually touched upon these four Tense forms while learning English. If you have already covered these topics with your kids you may find it quite effective to use some interactive online exercises that will help learners have more practice. Exercises are more suitable for Intermediate learners.
Task 1
Here students focus their attention on three tense forms that express Future time — Present Simple for timetables, Present Continuous for arrangements and be going to for plans.
Task 2
The next step requires more attention since here students will also have practice with Future Simple.
Task 3
Having had some practice in writing the exercises it is time to boost your students’ speaking skills using Future Tenses.
Spin the wheel and answer the questions using correct Future tense forms.
These online exercises will help your students learn fast and easily and use them in their speech.
Learn what the future tense means and its four forms in English. Once you’ve mastered this verb tense, answer the three-part quiz I made to check your understanding.
What Is the Future Tense?
The future tense is used to express actions that will occur. For example:
- I will stay at home next week.
This sentence indicates a future activity.
- She will be happy.
This example shows a future condition or state of being happy.
But these examples are only in the simple future tense. There are three other forms of the future tense.
- Future progressive: These are actions that will be ongoing at one point in the future.
I will be staying in Los Angeles for two weeks.
- Future perfect: These are actions that will be finished before another future event.
I will have left Los Angeles by the time you arrive.
- Future perfect progressive: These are ongoing actions to be finished at a specific future time.
I will have been working in Los Angeles as a consultant for two years.
Summarizing the Future Tense
The future tense expresses an action that has not happened yet. Its four forms include the simple future, future progressive, future perfect, and future perfect progressive.
I hope these three exercises challenged your understanding of the topic. Practice using the future tense in your statements to form grammatically correct sentences.
