Download Abiword from Ubuntu Software Center or you can install it by typing following command in terminal:
sudo apt-get install abiword
Then perform the conversion:
abiword --to=doc example.pdf

openoffice (or alternatively the libreoffice fork) both have pdf import plugins and .doc export functionality… though both aspects suffer from conversion issues AFAIK.
By this I mean that the conversion fidelity isn’t always 100%.
Abiword also works in a similar way, if OpenOffice doesn’t work on your system.

I’ve had great success with PDF to Word online. This is not a desktop application, but a service, that works better than other things I’ve used.

Install AbiWord from Ubuntu Software Center
Open Pdf Files with it.
Use Save As.. to save pdf in Word Doc format.

I prefer converting PDF files first to HTML using pdftohtml included in the poppler-utils package, for example by means of a file manager context menu script merely consisting of this command:
pdftohtml -noframes -q -p -c "$1" "${1%.pdf}-img.html"
Then I open the resulting HTML file in LibreOffice Writer, and (after a little editing) Save As any other document format I like.
Note: Adding -i parameter to the command above produces HTML file without images.

What are the differences between a PDF and other formats:
PDF stands for Portable Document Format, that is, a portable document format. It was developed by Adobe Systems and is currently one of the most popular formats as it is independent of the software and hardware platforms we use, hence the portable. This means that we will be able to visualize the content from several very diverse operating systems and programs, which makes it the king of the Internet to reach such heterogeneous computers that exist.
It became so important that it was standardized in 2008 under ISO 32000-1, but not all are advantages, such portability, ease of viewing, small size, and personalized configuration, it also has its hidden face. For example, that the edition of these PDF files involves acquiring paid software, such as Adobe Acrobat products in their PRO versions. Being difficult to edit or impossible without specific software, it is difficult to work with it and that is why it is sought to turn it into an editable document as we will teach you in this tutorial.
By the way, it is true that there are some alternatives for Linux such as PDF Studio Pro or PDF Edit, but honestly the alternatives are not mature enough or as complete as Adobe’s …
From Microsoft Office:
To transform from any office document, be it a .doc, .docx, .ppt, .pptx ,. etc., if you work with the office suite of Microsoft Office or Office 365 from the web platform, you can follow the following steps to go to PDF format:
- Open the program you want to work from. It can be Word, PowerPoint, etc.
- Go to the File menu.
- Click on Export.
- And select the PDF format.
- In the drop-down menu you can select the name of the PDF document and where you can save it, as well as choose between a normal or a light format (especially for publishing online). If you display the options, it will also allow you to choose the pages to convert, bookmarks, etc.
- When accepting and saving, the office document will begin to be exported to PDF and we will have it ready.

From LibreOffice / OpenOffice:

- Select the Export to PDF option.

Convert PDF to Word
In the case of the reverse operation, office suites usually do not have options to convert a PDF to an editable document, or if they do, they are not as visible as in the case of the options for converting a document to PDF. For example, if we have LibreOffice installed (and the libreoffice-common package) in our distribution, we can use a simple command to convert PDF to one of the formats compatible with our favorite free suite. How? Well, in this way:
cd /nombre/directorio/donde/esta/pdf soffice --infilter="writer_pdf_import" --convert-to doc nombre.pdf
With this we manage to transform the document named name.pdf (which you must replace with the name of your PDF) in a .doc to be able to edit it comfortably. Of course, you must run it from the directory where the PDF is to work … If you want, you can change the doc format for a different one such as .odt, etc.

). Какую софтину посоветуете? Желательно з ГУИ на ГТК+. Заранее спасибо.

А OpenOffice разве этого не умеет? PDF editor, но он может только в txt или xml.

AbiWord действительно импортировал из ПДФ, однако в очень непонятной кодировке.
ОпенОфис тоже импортировал, но только разметку документа (линии). Текст потерялся.
Кажется, что реально на это способен только ФайнРидер!

Always got this error message from soffice/libreoffice/unoconv:
:1: parser error : Document is empty
%PDF-1.7
And this one for abiword
Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused
** (abiword:6477): WARNING **: clutter failed 0, get a life.
Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused
With every command but abiword. I got a doc file with bad character inside.
But never get a proper file.
I try to create a file converter so I only want command line method. Don’t want to use someone API.

Managed to do it with soffice.
I had to install this package: libreoffice-pdfimport
And don’t forget to use —infilter=»writer_pdf_import»

Linux has a few apps that can import a pdf as an image: LibreOffice, Okular, Calibre.
But if you want editable text, then you need to install the pdf toolkit pdftk, then run the conversion utility pdf2txt. The terminal command is:
pdf2txt input.pdf output.txt
Thereafter, import the txt file into a wordpro, and complete the final editing/formatting.
