Too
cool for school
You’ve always
wanted to be popular in school. You’ve dreamt a thousand times what it would be
like to be the star of your school’s football team or that tall blonde girl who
everyone fancies.
‘Cool’ people are
attractive, confident and always wear stylish outfits. Everyone wants to hang
out with them. But often “cool” people aren’t very nice! They can be selfish
and bossy. At times they get impatient with people who might be shy or a bit
quiet.
If you really
want to make some true friends, here are some tips. Don’t choose friends based
on looks. What really matters in a friend is not being slim and beautiful but
reliable and generous. Choose friends who are humorous, talkative and who never
treat others badly. In fact, these are the people who are truly cool! Try to
choose friends that you can actually benefit from. Those who are creative and
have interests other than fashion and parties.
Be flexible but
don’t say or do things that make you feel uncomfortable just to make ‘cool’
people like you. Always speak your mind. Those who really care for you will
still be your friends- even if at times you drive them crazy. Remember: real
friends are those you can open up to. Those who will hold their tongue and will
never give away your secrets.
Take a minute and think. What really matters? Making friends that count or
counting friends?
41. Popular kids
in school are often selfish and bossy. _______

ОбъMoscow International Business Center, also known as Moscow-City, is a commercial district in central Moscow located on the Presnenskaya Embankment. It consists of several grand towers built in a futuristic style. Each tower has its own distinctive design. Moscow-City is the largest real estate investment project in Moscow and in all of Russia. It is also home to the highest skyscraper in Europe. Construction is still in progress, but even though it is yet to be completed, the complex is already huge and impressive. The district embodies modern architecture and technology. In 2011, the «Moscow Tower» was listed among the top 10 most aesthetic skyscrapers in the world. The interior of its metro station is also interesting as it portrays a metro of the future.
Moscow-City is expected to become the first zone in Russia to combine business activity, living space and entertainment in one single development. There will be offices, restaurants, hotels, halls, stores, malls, galleries – in other words – a place for all kinds of business life

Reading
.G. Read the text and fill in the gaps (42-46) with the phrases (A-F). There is one phrase you do not need to use.
It is a sad reality that children all around the world are putting on more and more weight, 42) C. and many health experts say junk food is responsible. Unhealthy meals and snacks are freely available in many primary and secondary schools, which raises the serious question of whether schools should ban junk food in order to help children keep their weight down.
There are some good reasons for banning junk food in schools. For instance, eating junk food has been shown to cause nervousness and bad behaviour in children. Children would behave and perform better in the classroom 43) A. if junk food wasn’t available in schools. In addition, given a choice between junk food and healthy food, a child will always choose junk food. As eating too much junk food can cause serious diseases, it is inappropriate that schools offer children junk food, 44) E. as it is their job to protect and care for children.
There are also, however, very good reasons for not banning junk food in schools. For example, telling a young child that they are not allowed to have a particular type of food simply makes that food more appealing to the child. So, a ban could in fact increase the appeal of junk food. What is more, as children will still be able to get junk food outside of school, banning it in schools will do little good, 45) F. as this action will not change children’s general eating habits.
All in all, the strong arguments on both sides of the debate make it clear that it is difficult to decide if banning junk food in schools is a good idea. It seems unlikely, however, that ‘hiding’ foods from children will do much good. What seems more likely to work is educating children about healthy eating habits. Parents have the greatest influence over a child’s eating habits, thus it is perhaps in the home 46) D. and not in schools, where food education must take place.
