Fill in the blanks with the following words. Use only one word in each space.
part, world, chance, luck, have, in, win, million, lucky, round, worth, prize, competition, miss

Hello, Mike!
I am in Australia. It’s great. A lot of sunshine and fresh air, parrots and other fantastic birds, warm water and beaches. You are surprised to get my message, aren’t you?
As you know last summer I tried my chance and took part in the World Teenagers’ Competition. It was a chance in a million. But it was worth trying to win something for nothing. I was luck and won the prize.
Now I and 49 other lucky winners will travel round the world. I enjoy visiting new places and finding new friends all over the world. I will send you postcards from the countries which we are going to visit.
But you also have a chance to visit them. Take part in the same competition next year. Don’t miss your chance.
Good luck.
Best wishes,
Pete.

Found this instruction in a grammar exercise:
Fill in the blanks with words the same meaning as the underlined words.

Is it even grammatical? Don’t we need «with» between «words» and «the same»?

It is not grammatical. I might use «of» but others might accept «with.» If I were writing it from scratch, however, I would say, «Fill in the blanks with words that have the same meaning as the underlined words.»

    • #3

I like your version more. :)
For your version, «that have» can also be changed to «having»?

    • #4

Wait a minute, shouldn’t «meaning» be «meanings», because there is more than one word?

An idea came to my mind just now. I believe we can say:
Find someone the same height as you.

Structually speaking, it’s the same as the sentence in question. Hmm…….I’m confused. :(

In my opinion, «the same meaning as the underlined words» is the appositive of «words»

Words is plural but meaning is singular. As for your height example, you’ve confused the issue with a singular «someone.» To match your original question, it would be «Find people the same height as you.»

Fill in the blanks in each sentence with two or three words that have the same sound but different spelling and different meanings.

The number of blanks equals the number of letters in the missing word.

Write the missing words with commas and spaces between them.

    Our team _ _ _ _ _ _ game and lost three games.

    They agreed _ _ play _ _ _ more games next week, _ _ _.

    The _ _ _ _ golfers watched _ _ _ the ball when they heard someone shout «_ _ _ _!

    The four of us were so hungry that we _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ hamburgers.

    Each player _ _ _ _ _ the ball _ _ _ _ _ _ _ the hoop at least once.
