It’s an endurance sport. It’s a spectator thrill. The fastest cars of 2023 offer something for everyone. The fact that they’re only getting faster excites each of us, as we watch fast-beyond-words cars vie for that most longed-after title: the fastest car in the world.
This year’s cars are lighter, sleeker, and more powerful than any that have come before. Now boasting top speeds far beyond the previous ‘golden threshold’ of 300mph (480kph), the newest hypercars and supercars are works of art in motion. For 2023 we maintained the number of models on our list to eleven – these are the absolute fastest cars in the world from historic auto houses.
Some of these may look familiar, as they’ve held titles ranging from the most expensive car to the fastest before. Other names are brand-new – but certainly worth remembering.
The Devel Sixteen will once again capture your attention. The supercar is winning the coveted #1 spot on our ranking as the fastest car of 2023. The car remains in development, however, with a claimed top speed of 347 mph.
The biggest change in 2023 is the SSC Tuatara moving from number two to number six on our list after their verified top speed dropped from a claimed 331mph (530kph) to an actual 295 mph (475 kph).
The Rimac Nevera, the first fully-electric car to make its entrance on our list last year, remains a sign of the changing times. We have a dedicated ranking of the best luxury electric cars of the year if you want to see other options in that category.
# | Car | Top speed |

Check below our ranking our methodology to select and rank the fastest cars in the world and our answers to our readers’ most frequently asked questions.
11. Rimac Nevera C Two
“Electric” and “hypercar” aren’t usually words heard in the same sentence, except in the form of Rimac Nevera C Two. Powered by a 120kWh battery pack, the Nevera uses four electric motors in a way never seen before to reach top speeds other electric cars could only dream of.
But that shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, as everything about the Nevera was designed to push boundaries. “A Nevera is extremely powerful and charged by lightning,” says the company, which seems fitting with its 0-62 mph speed of 1.85 seconds.
And, to ensure you can safely hit those ridiculous speeds, the car comes with 13 cameras to help optimize and enhance each driver’s on-track performance in real-time.
10. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport
The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is one of the oldest supercars around, but it’s still one more than worthy of those record-breaking top speeds. A car that set the benchmark even higher both for Bugatti as well as other contenders in the hypercar world, the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport was one of the greatest technological challenges ever known in the automotive industry.
The 16.4 Super Sport was the final design from the Veyron batch, a car that excelled itself in every way, shape, and form possible, before finally putting the Veyron name to bed. Elegant, stylish and truly one of a kind: the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport promises to retain its name in history for the foreseeable future.

9. Hennessey Venom GT
On Valentine’s Day in 2014, John Hennessey of Hennessey Performance declared an end (for a time, anyway) to his feud with Bugatti. After years of sparring, the American car manufacturer saw his Venom GT seize the World Record for Fastest Car on NASA’s Kennedy Space Center runway.
The car took two full years to engineer and develop. 29 were made; the manufacturer has only let them go for approximately 1.2 million apiece.
The supercar itself is gorgeous, with sinuous curves and a sleek body. Featuring an ultra-light carbon-fibre chassis, the Venom GT almost reads feline, as if it’s a black panther poised to leap forward at any second.
And leap, it does: The Venom GT reached a top speed of a then-unprecedented 270mph or 434 kph. While performing its World Record tests, it achieved an acceleration of 0-100kph or 0-60 mph in 3.05 seconds.
8. Koenigsegg Agera RS
The Koenigsegg Agera RS was designed to be seen and to be heard, a supercar that took the challenge of beating world records into its hands with a sleek design to match. A boundary-pushing beast of a vehicle that manages to successfully tick all the boxes, it’s a strong contender for one of the world’s most impressive cars.
The Agera RS was handcrafted only 25 times,10 of which were pre-sold before the first showing. The company reported that this was its fastest-selling model, and it remains one of the rarest out there.
Its most alluring feature? The 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 generates 1176 horsepower and 940 lb-ft of torque in standard form. And it’s made almost entirely in-house, something relatively unheard of in the industry.

7. C zinger 21c
Unlike some supercars which stick to traditional methods and designs, the C zinger 21c was built for the 21st century. A car propelling itself far into the future in every way possible, its lap-record-shattering performance is just one of the many things it boasts of.
Carbon fiber construction, a bespoke hybrid powertrain, extreme downforce, and more ensure this car knows its stuff both inside and out. This is a car powered on both electricity and gas, supplementing its forces with an 800-volt electrical system, similar to those spotted on recent Formula 1 cars.
Sure, it won’t quite hit those maximum speeds on electricity alone, but it’s powerful enough to travel a moderate distance without using gas.

6. SSC Tuatara
Shelby SuperCars is no stranger to speed. In 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero held the title of the world’s fastest production car. At that time, hitting 300 mph seemed like nothing more than fantasy. Today, SSC wants to transform that dream into reality.
The Tuatara pairs together a body featuring an insanely low 0.279 coefficient of drag with a twin-turbocharged 1,750 horsepower V-8, on a platform priced at $1.9 million. Although there was a brief moment where the world was led to believe the SSC Tuatara hit an astonishing 331 mph, that claim turned out to be false.
Don’t give up hope just yet though. SSC has confirmed that the Tuatara managed to hit 295.0 mph (474.8 kph) in 2022. The company brought in Racelogic to separately confirm the speed. And they don’t think that was close to the vehicle’s true top speed.
Maybe the SSC Tuatara will hit 331 mph after all. Only time will tell.
5. Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+
Bugatti has been a storied name in luxury hypercars for years, naturally. The intensely upgraded quad-turbocharged W16 that powers the Chiron upgraded the speed of this iconic speed added some brawn to the beauty – with the result that, now, Bugatti has not one, not two, but three places in our ranking of the fastest cars of 2023.
While it may no longer be the absolute fastest car out there (we’ll get to that envied title in a minute), Bugatti’s Chiron Super Sport 300+ has a claim to fame that will be chronicled in history books and awed conversations for years to come: It was the very first car to cross the then-unheard-of barrier of 300 mph (or 483 kph).
It still represents a flawless balance between form and function, aerodynamics, and aesthetics. With an acceleration from 0-100 kilometers per hour (0-60 mph) in 2.4 seconds, this Bugatti certainly has speed and style, all at the same time.
Top speed: | 300 mph / 483 kph |
0-60 mph: | 2.4 seconds |
Price: | $3.89 million |

4. Bugatti Bolide
After the success of the Chiron Super Sport, Bugatti went back to the drawing board. The innovative, historic auto house needed to one-up itself; but how can one do that when the Super Sport 300+ was already, seemingly, perfection on wheels?
The answer? Simple.
Enter: an 8.0L W-16 motor. 1825 horsepower. A stunning 1364 lb-ft of torque.
Clearly, this car is going places.
Bugatti’s Bolide is a lightweight hypercar that showcases the true extent of Bugatti’s range in terms of beauty, power, and innovation. Using the same bespoke engine from the storied Chiron line, but with more turbos to amplify the effect, the Bolide will truly show the world what the W-16 motor is capable of.
It’s also light, futuristic (powder blue paint sits sparingly on its exposed carbon-fiber frame), and tiny: The Bolide only stands 39.2 inches off the ground. Its claimed top speed is 310mph or 498 kph; it can do 0-60mph (0-100kph) in 2.17 seconds.
Top speed: | 310 mph / 498 kph |
0-60 mph: | 2.17 seconds |
Price: | $4.7 million |

3. Hennessey Venom F5
Next in the lineup of Hennessey’s record-breaking vehicles is another in John Hennessey’s Venom line: the F5. The name is a reference to the very fastest type of tornado – a natural force that the Hennessey emulates with its immense power and incredible speed.
Under the hood of the Venom F5 is an American-made twin-turbocharged engine; the result? Nearly 2,000 horsepower. This gives the Venom F5 precisely what it needs to reach a top speed of 484 kilometers per hour (301 mph). Its acceleration is equally impressive, as it can accelerate from 0-100kph or 0-60mph in less than two seconds.
Built to help Hennessey smash a world record it had previously broken with the GT, the F5 was amped up in style, exclusivity, price, and speed. Only 24 were made. The sticker price was 1.6 million dollars. The bright yellow carbon-fiber shell? Instantly iconic.
2. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut
Thus far, it may seem that the race to determine the fastest car of 2023 has been mostly between two auto manufacturers: Bugatti and Hennessey. That makes sense. They’re both impeccably pedigreed houses, producing incredible cars just packed with raw power.
But! That doesn’t mean they’ve got this race.
Introducing: the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut – a hypercar that ups the ante by an astonishing almost thirty miles per hour. For a long time, if anyone wondered what the fastest car in the world was – it was definitely this car.
Swedish auto manufacturer Koenigsegg introduced this vehicle to set a new world record. As such, they updated the engine from their other popular supercar, the Agera RS; they invested in more precise handling, and they made this car lighter and more aerodynamic for optimal performance.
However, this car isn’t just about speed. There’s pleasure built-in as well, with the type of climate control, infotainment, and head/leg room that usually gets glossed over when it comes to the fastest cars in the world.
The Jesko Absolut reaches a top speed of 330mph (or 531kph); the manufacturer has not released acceleration information – but with that type of top speed, it’s sure to be impressive.
Top speed: | 330 mph / 531 kph |
0-60 mph: | 2.6 seconds |
Price: | $3.4 million |

1. Devel Sixteen
We’ve come to it: The fastest car of 2023, an almost unheard-of amount of power and speed from the Devel Sixteen – a car that seeks to smash all of the current records it faces. With a claimed top speed of 347mph (or 550+kph), the Devel Sixteen stares down the next speed standard: 350 miles per hour.
First debuted years ago, the Devel Sixteen boasts stats that have had the automotive world whispering, mystified, as we wait for production: It has an incredible 5,007 horsepower, an 81mm Quad Turbo 12.3L V16 engine, and a general ‘inquire for price’, intriguing aura constantly surrounding it. This car is certainly one to keep an eye out for again in 2023, as what we do know about it signals that it’ll be the car to beat if its stats are confirmed.
Devel is also working on a large utility vehicle at the moment. Take a look at our round-up of the best luxury SUVs of the year if you need something right now though.
*The V16 Devel Sixteen remains in development at the time of publishing this ranking. The brand’s claimed top speed hasn’t been confirmed yet. We will update this article as soon as more information is available. A V8 version of the Devel Sixteen has been released, however, with a verified top speed of 124 mph (200 kph).
Fastest car in GTA 5
It may only be available in the virtual world, but it’s one that’s kept its record for a while. The Ocelot Pariah is the fastest car in the GTA 5 world, with top speeds of 136.00 mph or 218.87 kph. But it’s also one you’ll have to work pretty hard to afford, with an in-game price tag of $1,420,000. It’s undeniably the best choice for gamers, allowing you to only see any other GTA car in your rearview mirror.
Fastest car in Forza Horizon 5
Forza Horizon 5 is a top game for all kinds of fast car lovers but the fastest car in the game, the Koenigsegg Jesko, requires a little extra patience and/or game credits. In fact, you’ll need approximately 2.8 million credits if you’re looking to drive the Koenigsegg Jesko for free. Doing so unlocks seriously high speeds of 310 mph or 498.897 kph after you’ve ticked off all of the upgrades.
Bonus: The fastest non-street legal cars in the world
Our list of the fastest cars of 2023 focused exclusively on street-legal cars. Supercars that you could buy and drive on the road. But to be complete, we need to mention two other very special vehicles: the Thrust SSC and the Bloodhound LSR.
Thrust SSC: 763 mph (1,228 km/h)
The Thrust supersonic car is a British jet car developed by Richard Noble, Glynne Bowsher, Ron Ayers, and Jeremy Bliss specifically to break the world speed record. It currently holds the world land speed record with a top speed of 763 mph (1,228 km/h), registered on October 15, 1997. It is also the first land vehicle to officially break the sound barrier.
The Thrust SSC is powered by two Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines and weighs nearly 10 tons.
Bloodhound LSR: 1,000 mph (1,609 km/h) – target
20 years after its predecessor, the Bloodhound Land Speed Record (LSR) announced its intention to break the world land speed record with a top speed target of 1,000 mph / 1,609 km/h. The car has been under development since 2008 and is powered by a combination of a jet engine and a rocket engine.
While still in development, the car already achieved a top speed of 628 mph (1,011 km/h) on 16 November 2019 in South Africa. The British engineering team behind the project plans to break the world speed record in 2023.
Honorable mentions: The cars that just didn’t make the cut
300mph is a very, very difficult milestone to hit. While the seven cars we’ve profiled here managed to come close or supersede that target, that doesn’t mean that cars with slightly slower speeds aren’t performing phenomenally.
These eight speedy supercars certainly merit honorable mention…and we wouldn’t be surprised if these manufacturers rise to the top for a dramatic upset in our future car rankings:
- Aston Martin DBS Superleggera: 211 mph (340 km/h)
- Ferrari 812 Superfast: 211 mph (340 km/h)
- McLaren 720S: 212 mph (341 km/h)
- Lamborghini Aventador SVJ: 217 mph (349 km/h)
- Saleen S7 Twin Turbo: 248 mph (399 km/h)
- McLaren Speedtail: 250 mph (400 km/h)
- Bugatti Chiron: 261 mph (420 km/h)
- Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: 268 mph (431 km/h)
Methodology: How we select, test, and rank the best options on the market
In order to paint a comprehensive, accurate, and fair picture of the fastest cars in the world, we did research on the cars available this year and over the past few years from the best names in the auto industry. We then ranked each car after carefully reading the specifications and the manufacturer’s claims and reading reviews from top automotive critics.

Speed has fascinated mankind for millennia. Foot races in ancient Greece and chariot races in Rome gave rise to competitive speed, and man has never looked back. But it wasn’t until the first cars emerged from garages across Europe that man’s quest for speed took off. Today, almost every car can hit 100 miles per hour and most family sedans will breeze past 120. Performance cars routinely play around 140 to 170. But our need for speed looks beyond that.
What was once a quest for 200 mph in a production car now sits at 250 mph, 300 mph, and beyond. Automakers regularly strive to add more power, smarter aerodynamics, and electric motors, all in the name of going faster. We should note: a number of these top speeds are claimed by the manufacturer, but a handful of these high-end hypercars have achieved impressive top speeds in the real world.
So without further ado, here’s a complete ranking of the 50 fastest cars in the world according to top speed. But for some additional context – and because it’s more achievable in the real world – we’ve also included how quickly it takes each car to hit 60 mph.

Top Speed: 217 MPH
The first Ferrari hybrid supercar, the LaFerrari, debuted in 2013 and was limited to just over 700 examples globally (counting both the coupe and convertible). Powered by a 6.3-liter V12 engine with Ferrari F1’s KERS hybrid system, the LaFerrari had 950 hp and could hit 60 miles per hour in just under 2.5 seconds.
Top Speed: 217 MPH
Seven years before the Speedtail – a car you’ll see later on in this list – the McLaren P1 was topping out at 217 miles per hour. Alongside the LaFerrari, the P1 was one of the fastest cars in the world. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter hybrid V8, the P1 produced 903 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque and could hit 60 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds.
Top Speed: 217 MPH
Mercedes is taking knowledge straight from its championship-winning Formula 1 team and applying it to a road car. The AMG One features a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder, three electric motors, and 1,063 hp – with projected top speed of 217 mph and the ability to hit 60 in an estimated 2.6 seconds. That’s hardly rapid compared to some of the insanely quick cars on this list, but there’s little question that the $2.7-million Mercedes-AMG is still one of the quickest cars on the planet.
Top Speed: 217 MPH
The first Lamborghini hybrid is also one of the fastest cars in the automaker’s history. With 819 hp from its electrified V12 powertrain, the Sian FKP 37 can hit 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 217.
Top Speed: 217 MPH
The Evija is the first true hypercar from Lotus and the brand’s first all-electric vehicle. It packs nearly 2,000 hp courtesy of four electric motors that generate around 500 hp each. It takes the Evija under three seconds to hit 62 and it will top out at a whopping 217 mph.
Top Speed: 218 MPH
The «slowest» Bugatti on this list still tops out at 218 miles per hour. The Chiron Pur Sport is lighter and features more aggressive aerodynamic bodywork than some of its siblings, which means more agility in the corners as opposed to merely being quick in a straight line. Still, it packs Bugatti’s ubiquitous quad-turbocharged W16 engine good for 1,479 horsepower.
Top Speed: 218.7 MPH
If you’re naming a car after your company’s founder, it better be a pretty epic effort. Fortunately for Ferrari, the Enzo goes down in history as one of Maranello’s crowning achievements. A powerful 6.0-liter V12 underhood gave the Enzo 650 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque, propelling it to 60 miles per hour in just 3.3 seconds. And even 20 years since the first Enzo rolled off the line, it’s still one of the fastest cars to ever do it.
Top Speed: 218 MPH
The Pininfarina Battista is an all-electric monster that packs 1,900 hp and 1,741 lb-ft of torque via a four-motor setup similar to the Rimac Nevera (the two cars share a platform and are built in the same Croatian facility). The Battista’s top speed is down on the Nevera, at 218 mph, but it’s slightly quicker to 60. Considering the Pininfarina offers $500,000 savings over its platform-mate, that’s a fair sacrifice.
Top Speed: 220 MPH
One of Aston Martin’s most exclusive vehicles, the One-77, was produced in extremely limited numbers between 2009 and 2012. The automaker built just 77 examples in that three-year period, each one with the same Cosworth-tuned 7.3-liter V12 engine capable of 750 hp. Flat out, the One-77 could hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and race to a top speed of 220 mph.
Top Speed: 220 MPH
Lamborghini is synonymous with V12 engines, but that won’t be the case for much longer. The new Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae represents the last nail in the coffin for gas-only V12 performance at the Italian automaker ahead of an electrified future. And what a nail it is. Power comes in at 769 hp, while there’s 531 lb-ft of torque. Those are modest figures relative to some of the vehicles on this list, but with a 2.8-second sprint to 60 and a 220-mph top speed, the celebration of the Aventador line and the gas-powered V12 in particular is a worthy sendoff.
Top Speed: 220 MPH
The Pagani Codalunga is one of the most powerful versions of the Huayra to date. And some might argue, also the loveliest. Its twin-turbo V12 engine gives it 840 hp and a whopping 811 lb-ft of torque that help propel it to a top speed of 220 mph.
Top Speed: 221 MPH
De Tomaso is back in a big way. The company revealed its stunning P72 back in 2019 at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed and has since rolled out a few different variants, each sensational in their own right. Powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter Ford V8, the P72 packs 700 hp and can race to 60 mph in just under 3.0 seconds, before capping off at 221 mph.
Top Speed: 221 MPH
No, this isn’t the original Countach – this is the Aventador-based Countach that Lamborghini produced in extremely limited numbers between 2021 and 2022. Powered by a hybrid 6.5-liter V12 engine, the new Countach produced 803 hp and could hit 60 in just 2.8 seconds on the way to a top speed of 221 mph. It’s the quickest and the fastest Countach ever built.
Top Speed: 221 MPH
One of Lamborghini’s most exclusive supercars was the Veneno. Just 13 examples were built between 2013 and 2014 (4 coupes and 9 roadsters), each with a 6.5-liter V12 engine borrowed from the Aventador good for 740 hp. The Veneno could hit 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and a whopping top speed of 221 mph.
Top Speed: 230 MPH
The man behind the McLaren F1 has a new brand named after himself. Gordon Murray Automotive produces the dramatic-looking T.50, which has a naturally aspirated V12 engine tuned by Cosworth to produce 654 hp and 344 lb-ft. That may not sound like much compared to some of the other cars on this list, but the T.50 tips the scales at just 2,174 pounds – making it an extremely light hypercar alternative.
Top Speed: 233 MPH
Pagani built the Zonda on and off for 10 years following its 1999 debut. At the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, Pagani upped the ante with the Zonda R. Powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine borrowed from Mercedes, the Zonda R produced 740 hp and could hit 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. Flat out, this Zonda would carry on to a top speed of 223 mph.
Top Speed: 236 MPH
The long-lived Pagani Huayra BC Roadster is an unusual entry on this list. The power output is excessive, and yet this sleek mid-engine V12-powered supercar can still hit 236 mph. With an asking price of $3.4 million, the 791-hp Huayra variant is the cream of the crop for the current Pagani range. A new Pacchetto Tempesta package was introduced in 2021 that added 25 hp and 36 lb-ft of torque, but Pagani hasn’t indicated how that improves the 0-to-60 time or top speed.
Top Speed: 236 MPH
Like the Chiron Pur Sport, the Divo is another Bugatti that was built for the track. It has a larger front grille for additional cooling, extra aero elements between the wheels, and a massive rear wing for more downforce. But it still packs a 1,500-hp quad-turbocharged engine underhood.
Top Speed: 238 MPH
The success of the Zonda led to the faster and prettier Huayra in 2011. Powered by a twin-turbocharged version of Benz’s 6.0-liter V12 engine, the base Huayra had 730 hp and a ridiculous top speed of 238 mph when new. Naturally, more powerful variants have followed in the coming years.
Top Speed: 240 MPH
In honor of the automaker’s 110th birthday, Bugatti rolled out the Centodieci. A limited-production variant of the Chiron, the Centodieci is 44 pounds lighter than the standard Chiron but has the same quad-turbocharged engine good for 1,578 hp. With that, the Centodieci tops out at an impressive 240 mph.
Top Speed: 248 MPH
The name «Deus Vayanne» certainly isn’t as recognizable as Bugatti or Pagani. But the upstart supercar maker rolled out its electric Vayanne hypercar early last year with a claimed 2,200 hp and a limited production run planned for 2025. While Deus has yet to prove the merit of its new all-electric beast, the company claims this car can top out at 248 mph.
Top Speed: 240.1 MPH
The McLaren F1 is one of the most iconic supercars of all time, and considering it made our list, it’s also one of the fastest. With a recorded top speed of 240.1 mph, the F1 was powered by a 6.1-liter BMW V12 engine that produced 618 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. That may not sound like much by modern standards, but the F1’s light weight and excellent aerodynamics helped it achieve its record-breaking top speed.
Top Speed: 241.0 MPH
After Koenigsegg launched its first model, the CC8S, the automaker followed up with an even more powerful version of that car. The CCR was introduced in 2004, with a twin-supercharged 4.7-liter V8 that produced 806 hp and 679 lb-ft of torque, which propelled it to 60 in just 3.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 241 mph.
Top Speed: 249 MPH
With seating for four and a three-cylinder engine, the Koenigsegg Gemera doesn’t sound like the kind of vehicle that’d make a list of fastest cars in the world. That is until you realize it’s from Koenigsegg, and things like seats and cylinder counts tell little of the story. The roomy Gemera packs 1,700 hp and 2,581 lb-ft of torque. The top speed is 249 mph and 0-60 happens in 1.9 seconds, making this a brilliant way to scare three of your closest friends. That insane performance is thanks to three electric motors, which work alongside the twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter three-cylinder engine. Prices start at $500,000, which isn’t too crazy for Sweden’s hottest performer.
Top Speed: 249 MPH
Aspark may not be an instantly recognizable name, but the Owl hypercar is one of the fastest electric vehicles in the world. Debuting at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Aspark Owl has four electric motors that give it a whopping 1,984 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque. It takes just 1.7 seconds for it to hit 60, and flat out, this thing tops out at 249 mph.

The base Agera was already ridiculously quick out of the box. But the Agera R upped the ante with a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine good for 947 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque, which helped propel it to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds and on to its 249 mph top speed. And it’s not even the fastest Agera variant on this list…
Top Speed: 250 MPH
Aston Martin has never really played in the hypercar space, instead contenting itself to build excellent and beautiful grand tourers. The Valkyrie is a change of tact – the result of a partnership between Aston and its Formula One partner, Red Bull Racing, to build a world-beating hypercar.
The Valkyrie features a naturally aspirated, Cosworth-sourced V12 and hybrid system to produce 1,160 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, but it’s how that power arrives. It comes at very high engine speeds, with the V12 packing an 11,000-rpm redline. Unleashed on the right road, this mid-engine Aston will hit 60 in 2.5 seconds and carry on to a top speed of nearly 250 mph.

We know, Elon Musk promised a new Tesla Roadster many, many years ago. But when it does eventually reach production, the CEO says that it will be one of the fastest cars on the planet. With an estimated 0-60 time of 1.9 seconds, it would be one of the quickest cars on this list, too.
Top Speed: 250 MPH
Named after a giant wolf found in Norse mythology, the W Motors Fenyr SuperSport is just as ferocious as its name suggests. Packing a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six engine created by RUF, the Fenyr SuperSport has 799 hp and 723 lb-ft of torque. That type of power allows it to hit 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 250.
Top Speed: 250.4 MPH
More than nearly any other brand on this list, McLaren knows about building record-breaking hypercars. The legendary F1 held the record for over two decades until the Bugatti Veyron arrived. The new McLaren Speedtail won’t reclaim the F1’s record with its promised 250-mph top speed, but the 1,036-hp, $2-million hypercar is arguably the prettiest car on this list. And anyway, 250.4 mph is pretty damn impressive, as is the zero-to-60 sprint of 2.9 seconds. Unlike the 300-plus-mph Jesko and Venom F5, we have little doubt of the Speedtail’s relatively reasonable max velocity.
Top Speed: 253.8 MPH
The Bugatti Veyron was the fastest car on the planet. But a lot has changed in the eight years since the very last examples were built. Still, with 987 hp and 922 lb-ft of torque courtesy of a quad-turbocharged W16 engine, the Veyron could spring to 60 in 2.5 seconds and – at one point – had a record-breaking top speed of 253.8 mph.
Top Speed: 257.4 MPH
Well before the record-breaking Tuatara came onto the scene, SSC – formerly Shelby SuperCars – had another speed record car in the Ultimate Aero. Powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, the Ultimate Aero produced 911 hp and 711 lb-ft of torque. And in 2007, it broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest production car with an average top speed of 257.4 mph.
Top Speed: 258 MPH
If there was ever a question as to whether electrification is the future of performance, Rimac (now teamed with Bugatti) is on a mission to answer «YES» with cars like the Nevera. The sleek Croatian hypercar packs four electric motors with a total output of 1,914 horsepower and 1,740 pound-feet of torque. But while the 258-mph top speed is deeply impressive, we’re more bewildered by the 1.97-second to 62 mph and the world-beating quarter-mile time, where it took just 8.74 seconds all while on cold tires. On properly warmed rubber, that time fell to just 8.58 seconds. Wild.
Top Speed: 260 MPH
The stunning La Voiture Noire was created in honor of Bugatti’s 110th anniversary. With dramatic new design cues over the standard Chiron and a ridiculous $13.4-million price tag, the 1,500-hp Bug still races to an estimated top speed of 260 mph.
Top Speed: 261 MPH
Essentially another variant of the Chiron (not that we’re complaining), the Mistral roadster debuted last year at The Quail in Pebble Beach packing the familiar quad-turbocharged W16 engine found throughout the Bugatti range. Here it’s still good for 1,577 hp, giving the Mistral a top-down top speed of 261 mph.
Top Speed: 263 MPH
Zenvo introduced the new TSR-GT only last year, but already the company has claimed a top speed of 263 mph. With 1,379 hp from a twin-supercharged 5.8-liter V8 engine, the TSR-GT certainly has the specs to compete,
Top Speed: 267.9 MPH
Bugatti sent the Veyron out with a bang. In 2010, the 16.4 Super Sport model added a few hundred extra horses to the standard Veyron, bringing the total output to 1,200 hp and 1,106 lb-ft of torque. The result of that extra oomph was a 0-60 time of 2.4 seconds and a record-breaking top speed (at the time) of 267.9 mph.
Top Speed: 270.5 MPH
The Venom GT was Hennessey’s original speed king. With 1,244 hp from its twin-turbocharged 7.0-liter V8 engine, the Venom GT achieved a top speed of 270.5 mph back in 2014, beating Bugatti for the production car speed record (at least, according to Hennessey).
Top Speed: 273 MPH
Not even the most aerodynamic or powerful version of the Chiron, the Super Sport still will hit a ridiculous 273 mph. Powered by the same quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine ubiquitous throughout the Bugatti range, the Super Sport packs 1,577 hp.
Top Speed: 273 MPH
The Koenigsegg One:1 was aptly named for its one-to-one power ratio in metric units: 1,360 PS to 1360 KG. In the US, that translates to 1,341 hp and 2,998 pounds, which gives the One:1 a 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds and an estimated top speed of 273 mph.
Top Speed: 277.9 MPH
In 2017, Koenigsegg officially claimed the record for the fastest car in the world with the Agera RS. The company shut down an 11-mile stretch of highway in Nevada where its hypercar achieved an average top speed of 277.9 mph. That record has since been beaten by Bugatti, but the 1,160-hp Agera is still one of the fastest cars to ever do it. It takes just 2.8 seconds for the Agera RS to hit 60 mph.
Top Speed: 281 MPH
The partially 3D-printed Czinger 21C hides a twin-turbo 2.9-liter flat-plane crank V8 under its hood good for 1,233 hp. Its relatively light curb weight of 2,734 pounds and all-wheel drive allows it to hit 62 mph in just 1.9 seconds, too. And the company claims a top speed of 281 mph on the right stretch of road. Although Czinger is a relative newcomer in the space, the company has already broken numerous lap records.
Top Speed: 295.0 MPH
Ah, the SSC Tuatara. After some uncertainty surrounding its first attempt, the American automaker made another run early in 2022 and set a blistering top speed of 295.0 mph at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds at Space Florida’s Shuttle Landing Facility. That’s quite a bit slower than its alleged 316-mph average, but it was still more than quick enough for this supercar to temporarily claim the title of world’s fastest production car. Quite fitting for a car with a $1.9-million price tag.
Top Speed: 300 MPH+
The Venom F5 Coupe has a claimed top speed of 311 mph. But even with the roof removed, Hennessey says its F5 Roadster will still be able to hit over 300 mph in a straight line. The droptop boasts the same twin-turbo 6.6-liter V8 with 1,817 hp and 1,193 lb-ft of torque as the hardtop.
Top Speed: 300 MPH+
Koenigsegg’s second-fastest car debuted last year in Pebble Beach with retro styling, a slick semi-manual gearbox, and some impressive performance to boot. With a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine sourced from the Jesko and some 1,385 hp, Koenigsegg says the CC850 will be able to exceed 300 mph and should be able to hit 60 mph in just about 2.7 seconds.
Top Speed: 304.8 MPH
The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ is technically the fastest car in the world with an achieved top speed of 304.8 mph. Its quadruple-turbocharged, 8.0-liter W16 engine shocked us in the Veyron and Veyron Super Sport, but this monstrous engine is on an entirely different level in the newer Chiron Super Sport 300+. With 1,600 hp and 1,180 lb-ft of torque (600 hp and 193 lb-ft more than the original Veyron), the range-topping Chiron hits 60 mph in 2.3 seconds and, as the name suggests, can crest 300 mph. In official testing, Bugatti recorded 304.8 mph.
Top Speed: 310 MPH+
The little-known SP Automotive Chaos arrived on the scene late last year promising 3,000 hp from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V10 engine with a hybrid assist. While we’ve yet to see any of these cars on the road yet, the company says its new hypercar will be able to hit a top speed of over 310 mph. Pair that with a claimed 0-60 time of 1.8 seconds and an eye-watering $14.4 million price tag, and the SP Automotive Chaos boasts some of the craziest stats of any car on this list.
Top Speed: 311 MPH
Those crazy folks in Texas at Hennessey Performance Engineering know a thing about speed. While the old Lotus Elise-based Venom GT would run up to 270 mph, Hennessey claims the Venom F5 will blast past 310 mph, thanks to a twin-turbo 6.6-liter V8 that produces 1,817 hp and 1,193 lb-ft of torque. While the price is lower than some of its European rivals, starting at $1.8 million, Hennessey is planning to build only 24 examples.
Top Speed: 311 MPH
The track-only Bugatti Bolide is the wildest creation to ever come out of Molsheim, which is certainly saying something. Based on the Chiron platform, the Bolide takes that vehicle’s quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine and feeds it a steady diet of 110-octane racing fuel, helping elevate the output to 1,825 hp and 1,365 pound-feet of torque, increases of 247 hp and 185 lb-ft compared to the Chiron Super Sport 300+.
The top speed, even with the track-focused aerodynamics, exceeds the Chiron too, at 311 mph to 304. Entry to the ultra-exclusive Bolide owner club was going for $4.7 million, but Bugatti confirmed the range was sold out at the dawn of 2022.
Top Speed: 330 MPH
Although the Chiron Super Sport 300+ is technically the world’s fastest car, Koenigsegg says that its Jesko Absolut is faster (although the company has yet to put those claims to pavement). With 1,600 hp and 1,106 lb-ft of torque from a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 and a slippery body that still offers significant downforce, the $2.8-million Swedish monster has the credentials for a high-speed run. That said, we wouldn’t count on the Jesko being allowed to hit 330: the best place on the planet for an attempt, the Ehra-Lessien proving grounds in north-central Germany, belongs to Bugatti’s parent company, Volkswagen.

The fastest cars in the world are also, unsurprisingly among the most exclusive and expensive cars you can buy.
The pursuit of top speed has long captivated performance car brands, and continues to this day even as the motoring world starts to move into the electric age. Your ‘usual’ sports cars and supercars just don’t cut it, so multi-million pound hypercars are continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible in terms of speed.
100 years ago, the race to build the fastest car had taken cars from being barely faster than horses to being capable of well over 100mph in around two decades. By the 1950s Aston Martin was breaching 150mph with its DB4 GT, while the Ferrari F40 had ventured above the 200mph barrier in the 1980s.
Getting cars to go faster than that became more and more difficult, and then celebrated racing firm McLaren came along to blow everyone out of the water. In 1998, the iconic McLaren F1 breached 240mph — well in excess of what anybody else could manage at the time.
Even when Bugatti’s incredible (and incredibly expensive to make) Veyron landed on the scene in 2005 its top speed was ‘only’ 13mph more than the McLaren, at 253mph. But Bugatti didn’t rest on its laurels, coming out with the Veyron Super Sport in 2010 which cracked 267mph.
Since then, there’s been all manner of cars (some from companies you might never have heard of) the claim to be even faster still. Bugatti itself replaced the Veyron with the even faster Chiron, and the target shifted to a nice round number: 300mph.
Although Bugatti did manage break the 300mph in 2019 with a lightly modified Chiron Super Sport 300+, the eventual production version was limited to a mere 271mph. Bugatti claims the production car will go to that magic figure, but it will only allow owners to take the car to its full potential under supervision at its own test track.
Because of growing public safety concerns and the safe speed limits of tyres and other components, it remains to be seen if anyone will ever be able to buy a car that, out of the box in production form, can crack 300mph. Still, here’s a guide to the fastest production cars currently made today.

Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut
Year launched: 2022
10/10
The ‘fastest ever’ car on sale comes with a very large caveat: its top speed is theoretical for now and based on calculations. Still, legendary Swedish hypercar maker Koenigsegg is so confident its Jesko Absolut will deliver that it vows never to make a faster series production road car than this.
The Jesko Absolut is powered by a twin-turbo V8 which can generate «a minimum» of 1,600PS on special E85 fuel. The company boss describes it as a «land-based rocket-ship determined to reach unheard of speed in record-setting pace.»
How fast exactly? Well, Koenigsegg’s own target was 310mph, but the company’s simulations suggest that it will go even faster than that thanks to the Jesko Absolut’s super slippery, low-drag body. The issues will be finding a tyre that is capable of doing those speeds, and finding a long enough straight bit of tarmac to get it up there. Still, this is Koenigsegg, not some vapourware start-up hypercar company, so we reckon they’ll do it.

Hennessey Venom F5
Year launched: 2022
9/10
Hennessey has spent the last 30 years modifying everything from Ferraris to pickup trucks to Dodge Vipers. But it’s dipped its toe in full vehicle production twice now: first with the Lotus-derived 2011 Venom GT (capable of 270mph) and now with the Venom F5.
The Venom F5 is not a Lotus Elise modified out of all recognition; instead it’s a bespoke, carbon-bodied hypercar with an in-house platform and a 6.6-litre twin-turbo V8 claimed to put out more than 1,800PS. Yet it weighs about the same as a Ford Focus, so performance should be pretty unhinged.
Like the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, Hennessey is yet to attempt a full top speed run, so its position in the list is theoretical for now. But it is very hopeful of reaching or exceeding 311mph. And we believe them, given it’s capable of 0-186mph in just 8.4 seconds. Just 24 are being made at a pre-tax price of £1.58m.

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+
Year launched: 2021
9/10
No ‘fastest cars’ list on the internet is complete without a Bugatti of some sort. The ‘standard’ Chiron, like the Veyron before it, is a mind-blowing piece of engineering, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be bettered.
The Chiron Super Sport 300+ is a special version of the already pretty special Chiron Super Sport, built to commemorate a modified Chiron becoming the first hypercar to crack 300mph. The production car’s top speed is electronically capped at 273mph, but Bugatti will reportedly let owners add in a roll-cage and attempt their own high-speed at the company’s Ehra-Lessien test track.
As well a 1600PS version of the Chiron’s quad-turbo 8.0-litre W16 engine, the Super Sport 300+ gets a longer, aerodynamically-optimised body and extensive weight-saving measures. 30 are being built, priced at £3.1m each.

SSC Tuatara
Year launched: 2021
9/10
SSC is a name you may not have heard of, but the North American outfit held the Guinness World Record for the fastest production car for three years with the mid-2000s SSC Ultimate Aero.
Now, it’s back, with the SSC Tuatara — a 1750PS hypercar using a highly tuned 5.9-litre twin-turbo V8. SSC got into some controversy in 2020 by claiming a production car record at an incredible 316mph, but reported inconsistencies in the measurement of that speed meant it wasn’t recognised widely.
Not to be deterred, SSC had another crack with the Tuatara in early 2021, using specialist measuring gear monitored by engineers. The data they provided showed the Tuatara hit 286mph and averaged nearly 283mph on both runs — enough to smash the record held by Koenigsegg since 2017. Further attempts will be made as SSC wants to try and crack the 300mph barrier.
The Washington-built Tuatara is said to cost around £1m before taxes, with 100 examples planned to be made.

Rimac Nevera
Year launched: 2021
8/10
The Rimac Nevera is out to disprove the theory that electric cars are only fast below a certain speed. The Croatian company, which owns a controlling stake in Bugatti alongside Porsche, promises its EV hypercar is capable of 258mph flat-out, putting it right up there with the very fastest petrol-powered cars.
The Nevera, which puts out a combined 1900PS from four electric motors powering each individual wheel, can accelerate from 0-62mph in under two seconds and cover the quarter mile in 8.6 seconds. Of course, we know EVs can be lightning fast away from the line, but to stop the Nevera’s acceleration tailing off Rimac uses a pair of single speed transmissions.
There’s more technical innovation in the Nevera than just raw speed, with extremely clever torque vectoring and a chunky 120kWh battery, which is claimed to give a range of 340 miles. It also has the most powerful regenerative braking of any EV, capable of up to 300kW of power. Priced from £1.72m, 150 examples of the Nevera will be produced.
- Fastest electric cars
McLaren Speedtail
Year launched: 2020
8/10
No McLaren is exactly dull to look at, but limited-run Speedtail is a jaw-dropping piece of design. The fastest and most aerodynamically efficient McLaren to date, it’s been shown to be able to hit 250mph.
The Speedtail uses a hybrid powertrain, mating McLaren’s long-used 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a 312PS electric motor for a total output of 1050hp. Although that’s less than many cars on this list, the Speedtail is designed to be a ‘hyper GT’ that’s usable and comfortable in everyday driving. It’s also half a ton lighter than a Bugatti Chiron, while McLaren says it has ‘no interest’ in compromising the car’s driveability to chase records.
That incredible long body and active aerodynamics are designed specifically to improve airflow. The Speedtail’s futuristic interior also features a central driving position, just like the record-breaking McLaren F1 of the 1990s.

Aston Martin Valkyrie
Year launched: 2021
8/10
The Aston Martin Valkyrie has been a long time coming, as it was shown in concept form back in 2016. The first customer car was delivered in early 2022, showing the immense technical challenges the company has had to overcome.
Aston’s vision of the ultimate road car, the Valkyrie uses a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated Cosworth V12 that can rev to an incredible 11,000rpm, and produces 1160PS. With a kerbweight of around 1130kg (barely more than a Ford Fiesta) the Valkyrie produces more than 1PS for every kilogram it weighs.
Although its shapely body is designed primarily for downforce, Aston claims the track-focused AMR Pro version will manage over 250mph. The stripped-out cabin is inspired by Le Mans Prototype race cars, although it’s apparently capable of taking two adults. Priced at approximately £2.5m each, 150 examples of the Aston Martin Valkyrie will be produced.
Koenigsegg Gemera
Launch date: 2021
8/10
Yes, another Koenigsegg — but this one is a bit different because it’s the only proper four-seater in this list. Designed to be a comfortable, daily use GT car (it even has rear-seat infotainment to keep the kids happy) that can achieve incredible speeds, the Gemera also has some mind-bending engineering under the skin.
It’s powered in part by a 2.0-litre, three-cylinder engine, which sounds a bit puny for a Koenigsegg. But because it uses something called ‘Freevalve’ technology, it produces 600PS on its own. It can also run on more environmentally friendly ethanol and methanol.
That powerful little engine is mated to not one but three electric motors that increase the total power output to 1,700PS. With all-wheel drive, the Gemera is claimed to hit 250mph, or 186mph on rear-wheel drive, electric power alone. It’s not your normal hybrid, this. 300 Gemeras will be built, priced from around £1.4m — although customer deliveries won’t begin until 2023.
- Best hybrid cars
Koenigsegg Regera
Year launched: 2019
8/10
Koenigsegg’s appearance in this list three times shows its dedication to speed is serious. The Regera is, according to the company, designed to be a «luxury Megacar alternative» to its «traditional extreme, light-weight, race-like road cars».
The Regera uses a similar (but detuned) 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as Koenigsegg’s most extreme models, but this time its mated to three electric motors and a special ‘Direct Drive’ gearbox that’s lighter and more efficient than a traditional gearbox. Putting out 1500PS, and being constructed from carbon fibre and Kevlar, the Regera tips the scales at under 1600kg — impressive for a hybrid hypercar.
It’s also a record holder, according to Koenigsegg, managing to go from zero to 249mph and back to zero again in an incredible 31.49 seconds. Priced from around £1.3m, just 80 examples of the Regera will ever be produced.
- Best track day cars
8/10
We wouldn’t blame you if you’d never heard of Aspark and its uniquely-named Owl hypercar. But the Japanese engineering firm has been in conception since 2014, and customer deliveries are apparently commencing soon.
The second electric car in this list, the Aspark Owl is claimed to put out an astonishing 2,012PS through four electric motors — much like the Rimac Nevera, only even more powerful. Built on a carbon chassis, it’s light, too, while its 64kWh battery pack means a quoted range of 280 miles.
Aspark claims the top speed is limited at 248.5mph, and the Owl has the ability to go from 0-60mph in just 1.69 seconds. We’ve yet to see it run, but apparently around half of the 50 models to be built have been sold, at a price of around £2.4m.
- Best electric cars
The fastest production car in the world in terms of projected figures (before an official run has been made) is the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, with a calculated top speed target of over 310mph. In terms of actual top speed runs completed, the SSC Tuatara hit 286mph and averaged 283mph according to the company’s verified data.
It’s not a ‘car’ in a conventional sense, but the ThrustSSC is technically speaking the fastest car that’s ever been built. The jet-powered vehicle was clocked at 763mph back in 1997, making it the first car to break the sound barrier.
Although it’s not the fastest in terms of top speed, the electric Rimac Nevera hypercar can go from 0-60mph in 1.85 seconds with a one-foot rollout and high-friction surface. It’ll do 0-62mph from a standing start in 1.97 seconds.

These are the fastest cars in the world of 2023. Do post your comments.
Manufacturers have been trying to build the quickest car in the world since the dawn of the automobile. Here’s the current list of the fastest cars on the planet.
Speed has fascinated humankind for as long as people have been on the planet. From the invention of the wheel to supersonic aircraft, going more quickly means being able to do more things, more efficiently, while also offering advantages over those who must travel more slowly.
This principle very much applies to cars, with manufacturers seeking constantly seeking to make the world’s fastest car ever. And while speed limits and other road users may there is little practical application for really fast cars in day-to-day life, human nature means engineer, designers and drivers alike are always keen to see just how much faster a car can be made to go.
To be a contender for the title of the world’s fastest car, a vehicle will clearly need a hugely powerful engine, or several electric motors and a big battery pack. Aerodynamics play a huge role, too, as cutting through the air and overcoming its friction can make all the difference as speeds increase. How light a car is also impacts its top speed, while a car’s tyres (and their ability to withstand huge rotational forces) play a big part, too.
Below you will find a comprehensive list of the quickest cars in the world, many of which carwow has been lucky enough to drive. You can also take a look at the fastest cars that are available on carwow, too, all of which you can with great offers from trusted dealers.
The fastest cars in the world right now are:
- Bugatti Chiron Supersport 300+
- Hennessey Venom F5
- SSC Tuatara
- Rimac Nevera
- McLaren Speedtail
- Koenigsegg Regera
- Aston Martin Valkyrie
- Pagani Huayra
- Lamborghini Aventador SVJ
- Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut
1. Bugatti Chiron Supersport 300+
Top speed: 304mph
0-60mph: 2.2 seconds
That old cliche of doing what it says on the tin rears its head here because the Bugatti Chiron Supersport 300+ will do, well, 300mph+. More specifically, it managed 304mph when the French firm decided to unleash it at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien test track.
This 1,600hp mega-machine doesn’t officially hold the world record though, as it only did that run in one direction. To break the record you have to do it twice in opposite directions — which for whatever reason, Bugatti decided not to do.
2. Hennessey Venom F5
Top speed: 272mph (for now)
0-60mph: 2.6 seconds
Sometimes you really can’t beat a good old-fashioned V8 with a couple of turbos strapped to it, and the Hennessey Venom F5 proves this. The 6.6-litre twin-turbo lump puts out 1,817hp and 1,617Nm of torque, enough to launch it from 0-60mph in 2.6 seconds.
The highest top speed Hennessey have got from this all-American beast so far is 272mph, however they reckon it can go faster. How much faster? Well Hennessey wants to get over 300mph out of the Venom.
3. SSC Tuatara
Top speed: 268mph
0-60mph: 2.5 seconds
The American SSC Tuatara (Too-ah-ta-ra in case you’re struggling) comes in second on this list, with a pretty respectable 286mph top speed. That said, it’s not without a little controversy.
You see, SSC claimed the Tuatara actually managed 316mph in October 2020 to make it the world’s fastest car — but later admitted to a GPS error that depicted that speed wrongly. Later tests saw it hit a maximum of 286mph (it averaged 283mph over two runs.) Still not exactly slow, is it?
4. Rimac Nevera
Top speed: 258mph
0-60mph: 1.9 seconds
Electric cars offer instant acceleration thanks to the torque from their electric motors, however the added weight of the batteries can limit them in terms of top speed. This isn’t the case for the Rimac Nevera though.
This ballistic EV hypercar has four electric motors, producing a whopping 1,914hp and 2,300Nm of torque. That’s enough to launch it from 0-60mph in just 1.9 seconds, and it can go on to a top speed of 258mph. It’s made almost entirely out of carbon fibre to keep the weight down, but this isn’t just some stripped-out drag racer. The interior is a lovely place to be and you still get all the luxuries you’d expect of a car that costs £2 million.
5. McLaren Speedtail
Top speed: 250mph
0-60mph: 2.5 seconds
McLaren didn’t design the Speedtail to chase world records, but, with a 250mph top speed, it’s the fastest road car it has ever built.
That’s faster than its last three-seat car — the legendary McLaren F1. Its super-slippery bodywork lacks and drag-inducing wings and means it looks like something ripped straight from a futuristic cyberpunk film. Just think about carrying two of your mates at that speed…
6. Koenigsegg Regera
Top speed: 250mph
0-60mph: 2.8 seconds
Matching the Speedtail is the Koenigsegg Regera. This Swedish speed machine comes with a twin-turbo V8 engine and an electric motor that produce a total of 1,500hp.
Unlike any other car on this list, the Regera can go from 0-250mph using just ONE gear. Yep, no matter if you’re cruising at 30mph or aiming to hit its 250mph top speed (on a closed course, not the M1) you’ll be in the same gear. Seems a little bonkers.
7. Aston Martin Valkyrie
Top speed: 250mph
0-60mph: 2.2 seconds
You may not think, based on appearances, that the Aston Martin Valkyrie is road legal. It might look like a full-blown LeMans racer, but you can really drive it on the street.
Mounted behind the driver is a 6.5-litre hybrid V12 with 1,160hp, capable of pushing this F1 inspired road-racer from 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds. Not really surprising when you realise that it weighs just over a tonne.
8. Pagani Huayra
Top speed: 238mph
0-60mph: 3.2 seconds
The Pagani Huayra is a fantastic looking car. Every detail is exquisite, and it’s more than just a pin-up as well. It has an AMG derived twin-turbocharged V12 engine putting out 730hp and 1,000Nm of torque, enough for a top speed of 238mph.
The Huayra is made mostly of carbon fibre to keep the weight down, as well as to make it more rigid, and it’s covered in active aero to help it slip through the air more easily.
9. Lamborghini Aventador SVJ
Top speed: 217mph
0-60mph: 2.6 seconds
The fastest naturally-aspirated production car you can buy at the moment comes from the lunatics at Lamborghini. Not all that surprising, really.
The SVJ is the ultimate version of the Lamborghini Aventador supercar and produces a whopping 770hp from its 6.5-litre V12 engine. Its 217mph top speed is actually the same as the standard Aventador S, but the lighter and gripper SVJ will get there quicker and be faster around corners.
10. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut
Top speed: 310mph (in theory)
0-60mph: 2.5 seconds
It’s no surprise that Koenigsegg makes it onto this list twice, as they’re very good at making bonkers hypercars. The Jesko Absolut is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 producing 1,280hp on normal fuel, or a whopping 1,600hp on E85 race fuel.
This is enough for a 0-60mph sprint tome of 2.5 seconds. Koenigsegg hasn’t tested the top speed of the Jesko Absolut yet, however their computer simulations predict that it’ll do 310mph. We’ll have to wait and see what it can actually do before it can claim the top spot on this list.
The fastest cars available on carwow
1. Audi R8 Performance
Top speed: 205mph
0-60mph: 3.0 seconds
It’s been around ages now, but the Audi R8 is still the daddy of Audi’s range — although the new RS e-tron GT could well lay claim to that crown soon. The 620hp R8 Performance is still a properly capable machine though, and its 205mph top speed makes it the fastest car you can get through carwow.

0-60mph: 3.0 seconds
For something just as capable on a track as it is crossing the continent, the BMW M8 Competition is a seriously impressive GT car. Given enough room, and it’ll top 190mph.

If the BMW M8 isn’t practical enough for you, the specious BMW M5 Competition may be right up your street. It has the same 190mph top speed, but you get some handy rear doors and more interior space.
As with the M8, it’s no bare-bones race car. You get all the luxury features you’d expect on an executive saloon, and it’s comfortable for longer journeys. If that’s all a bit sensible for you, the bonkers M5 CS offers more power and improved suspension for track day hooliganism.
5. Lexus LC500
Top speed: 168mph
0-60mph: 4.7 seconds

With a combination of beauty, power and speed, sports cars never cease to put stars in the eyes of young and old alike. Ever since the first fast car was built (the Bugatti Type 41 Royale, which appeared in the 1920s and reached speeds of up to 124 miles per hour), the speedometer has never stopped climbing. Today, the fastest cars drive faster than the French TGV (199 mph). Jaguar, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari… So many legendary brands that have helped to challenge the law of gravity. In 2022, the fastest cars in the world are beating all the record speeds and reinventing our dream of driving even faster. In the real world, the chances of us driving such cars anywhere but Forza Horizon are slim. But for the time being, let’s take a moment to marvel at these vehicle with a need for speed from the safety of a screen.
1. BUGATTI BOLIDE : +310 MPH (Estimated)
Price of the Bugatti Bolide: $4.3 million
Number of cars produced: 40
The (probable) fastest car in the world is French. Of course, the 310 mph announced by the manufacturer are – for the moment – hypothetical. But knowing Bugatti’s history and its ability to make extreme cars, there is little doubt this speed can be reached, and its prototype is promising. Whatever the case, the answer will be in 2024, the year the Bugatti Bolide is produced. While waiting for the Bolide to prove itself on the road, it has already won the Grand Prix for the most beautiful hypercar of 2021.
2. BUGATTI CHIRON SUPER SPORT 300+ : 304 MPH
Price of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport: $3.8 million
Number of cars produced: 30
What is the fastest car in the world? At least the fastest car with a proven track record? It’s the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+! An even more muscular version of the original Bugatti Chiron, the Super Sport 300+ is the first supercar to exceed 300 mph.
3. KOENIGSEGG JESKO ABSOLUTE: 300 MPH
Price of the Koenigsegg Jesko: $3.3 million
Number of cars produced: About 60
The Swedish supercar was born to defy gravity and beat the Bugatti Chiron, and it’s the fastest Koenigsegg. With a 5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, it has 1,600 hp (100 more than the “classic” Jesko). And Christian von Koenigsegg is probably not finished surprising us.
4. SSC TUATARA : 283 MPH
Price of the SSC Tuatara: $2.4 million
Number of copies: 100
The SSC Tuatara made a big splash in 2020 when it was announced as “The car that travels at more than 500 km/h” (532 precisely, or 331 mph). The manufacturer backtracked a few months later, admitting that the Tuatara had never exceeded 500 km/h (310 mph). Finally, the “little sister” of the SSC Ultimate Aero has a (moderate) speed of 283 mph, which is already incredible!
5. KOENIGSEGG AGERA RS: 278 MPH
Price of the Koenigsegg Agera RS: $2.4 million
Number of cars produced: 25
The Swedish brand is back on the list with with another extraordinary supercar. Equipped with the same engine, it has about 500 horsepower less. But that doesn’t stop it from performing, going from 0 to 250 mph to 0 in 36.44 seconds. Amazing.
6. HENNESSEY VENOM F5 : 272 MPH
Price of the Hennessey Venom F5: $2.1 million
Number of cars produced: 24
It is still only in the testing phase and yet it already promises incredible performance. In March 2022, it reached 272 mph. The manufacturer does not intend to stop there and aims to exceed 310 mph. Its twin-turbo V8 of 6.6 l and 1,917 horsepower should be able to push to a new record.
7. BUGATTI VEYRON 16.4 SUPER SPORT : 268 MPH
Price of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport: $2.5 million
Number of cars produced: 48
Bugatti builds cars the way it sets records: By the book. In the case of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, this feat was achieved by driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel and certified by the Guinness World Records. This sporty jewel of power has made the hearts of many car lovers beat faster.
8. RIMAC NEVERA : 256 MPH
Price of the Rimac Nevera: $2.2 million
Number of cars produced: 150
The Rimac Nevera electrifies the road, and that’s an understatement. The second vehicle from the Croatian manufacturer, the electric hypercar is revolutionizing the automotive world. It may be low, but with its 1,914 horsepower, it sees things in a big way. This exceptional car has 4 electric motors and goes from 0 to 186 mph in less than 10 seconds.
9. MCLAREN SPEEDTAIL : 250 MPH
Price of the McLaren Speedtail: $2.3 million
Number of cars produced: 106
McLaren enters the race for the fastest car with the Speedtail, which has a top speed of over 249 mph. Inspired by the F1, it was designed to perform and dazzle. And it features something else small but original: central driving.
10. KOENIGSEGG GEMERA: 249 MPH
Price of the Koenigsegg Gemera: $1.4 million
Number of cars produced: 300
In the third appearance of the Swedish Koenigsegg our list, the Gemera is prestigious enough to be noticed. A “small” hybrid of almost 16.4 feet, it runs on a combustion engine and 3 electric motors. Its originality does not stop there: It does not have a gearbox. The Koenigsegg Gemera does nothing like the others; no wonder its name means “to rule” in Swedish.
